Paul's Trial Before Festus
Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Caesarea to Jerusalem.

Прибувши, отже, в провінцію, Фест на третій день пішов з Кесарії до Єрусалиму;
Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,
а первосвященики та провідники юдеїв з'явилися перед ним із скаргою на Павла і домагалися в нього,
And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.
благаючи ласки відносно нього (Павла), аби він був перевезений у Єрусалим, готуючи засідку, щоб на дорозі його вбити.
But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.
Та Фест відповів, щоб Павла тримали в Кесарії, бо й сам він мав вирушити туди незабаром;
Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.
«Нехай ті з вас, — мовив, — що здатні до того, йдуть зо мною, і коли в цьому чоловікові є щось каригідне, хай його винуватять.»
And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Caesarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.
Перебувши в них не більш, як днів вісім або десять, він прийшов у Кесарію, а наступного дня, сівши на суді, звелів привести Павла.
And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.
Коли ж цей прибув, юдеї, що поприходили з Єрусалиму, обступили його і висували проти нього силу тяжких обвинувачень, що їх не могли довести.
While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all.
Павло боронився: «Я ні проти юдейського закону, ні проти храму, ні проти кесаря нічим не провинився.»
But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?
Та Фест, бажаючи юдеям догодити, у відповідь Павлові мовив: «Хочеш іти в Єрусалим і там судитися передо мною у цій справі?»
Paul Appeals to Caesar
Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.

А Павло відповів: «Я стою перед судом кесаря: там мене слід судити. Юдеїв я нічим не скривдив, як і сам ти дуже добре знаєш.
For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Caesar.
Коли ж я справді винний або зробив щось гідне смерти, я не відмовляюся умерти. Якже нема нічого з того, в чому оці мене винуватять, ніхто не може мене їм видати. На кесаря покликаюся!»
Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Caesar? unto Caesar shalt thou go.
Тоді Фест, поговоривши з радою, відповів: «Ти покликався на кесаря, підеш до кесаря.»
Festus Consults King Agrippa
And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Caesarea to salute Festus.

And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul's cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:
А що вони пробули там чимало днів, Фест виклав цареві справу Павла: «Є тут — сказав він — один чоловік, якого Фелікс лишив в'язнем.
About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.
На нього, як я був в Єрусалимі, первосвященики й старші юдейські зробили скаргу, домагаючись його засуду.
To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.
Я відповів їм, що римляни не мають звичаю когось видавати, поки обвинувачений не матимете обвинуватців перед собою і можливости оборонятися від обвинувачення.
Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.
Отож, вони прийшли сюди зо мною, а я без жадної проволоки, на другий же день, сівши на судилище звелів привести того чоловіка.
Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:
Обвинуватці, що виступили проти нього, нічим не оскаржили його щодо того, в чому я підозрівав зло.
But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
Вони ж з ним мали якісь суперечки про їхнє власне суєвір'я та про якогось Ісуса померлого, — а Павло казав, що він живе.
And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.
Я, безпорадний щодо їхньої суперечки, спитав його, чи він не хоче піти в Єрусалим і там про це судитися.
But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Caesar.
Коли ж Павло вимагав, щоб його справу затримано для вирішення Августа, я повелів його тримати, аж поки його не відправлю до кесаря.»
Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.
Агриппа ж сказав до Феста: «Я теж хотів би послухати того чоловіка.» — «Завтра — мовив той — ти послухаєш його.»

And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at Festus' commandment Paul was brought forth.

Отож, наступного дня Агриппа й Верніка прийшли з великою пихою і з тисяцькими та знатнішими мужами міста й увійшли в судову залю; на наказ Феста ввели Павла.
And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.
Тоді Фест сказав: «Аґриппо царю, і ви всі присутні з нами мужі! Бачите цього, що його ввесь народ юдейський у мене домагався в Єрусалимі і тут, гукаючи, що йому не слід більше жити.
But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.
Я ж переконався, що він не зробив нічого гідного смерти; але через те, що він сам покликався на Августа, я вирішив його туди послати.
Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.
Не маю я нічого певного про нього володареві написати, тому й привів його перед вас, а особливо перед тебе, царю Аґриппо, щоб після розсліду мав я що писати;
