Ananias and Sapphira

But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

А один чоловік на ім’я Ананій зі своєю дружиною Сапфірою продав маєток

And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

і приховав частину грошей — про це знала й дружина, — а якусь частину приніс і поклав біля ніг апостолів.

But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

Петро сказав: Ананію, як це так, що сатана наповнив твоє серце, щоб обманути Святого Духа й приховати частину вартості поля?

4

Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

Невже воно не твоє було? Хіба продане не було у твоїй владі? Навіщо ти поклав це діло у своє серце? Ти ж сказав неправду не людям, а Богові!

And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

Почувши це, Ананій упав і помер. І найшов великий страх на всіх, хто це почув.

And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

Юнаки встали, обгорнули його, винесли й поховали.

And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

Коли минуло зо три години, прийшла його дружина, ще не знаючи того, що трапилося.

And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.

Петро промовив до неї: Скажи мені, чи за стільки ви продали поле? Вона відповіла: Так, за стільки.

Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

9

А Петро до неї: Як це сталося, що ви змовилися випробовувати Господнього Духа? Ось при дверях ті, які поховали твого чоловіка, — і тебе винесуть!

10

Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

Упала й вона одразу біля його ніг і померла. Юнаки, увійшовши, виявили її мертвою; винесли й поховали біля її чоловіка.

11

And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

11

І великий страх напав на всю Церкву, на всіх, хто це чув.

The Apostles Heal Many

And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.

Руками апостолів у народі здійснювалися численні ознаки та чудеса. І всі однодушно перебували в притворі Соломона.

13

And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

13

Ніхто зі сторонніх не наважувався приєднатися до них, але народ їх величав.

14

And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

Віруючих у Господа множилося — багато чоловіків та жінок.

15

Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

15

Недужих виносили на роздоріжжя і клали на носилках і постелях, щоб, як проходить Петро, хоч тінь його впала на декого з них.

16

There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

16

Багато людей сходилося з довколишніх міст до Єрусалима; вони приносили недужих і тих, які страждали від злих духів. Усі вони одужували.

The Apostles Arrested and Freed

Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,

17

Піднявся первосвященик і всі його прибічники із садукейської течії, — вони наповнилися заздрощами,

18

And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison.

18

наклали [свої] руки на апостолів і посадили їх у громадську в’язницю.

19

But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

19

Та ангел Господній уночі відчинив двері в’язниці, вивів їх і сказав:

20

Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

20

Ідіть, ставайте у храмі й кажіть народові всі слова цього життя!

21

And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

21

Почувши це, вони пішли вдосвіта до храму й навчали. Тим часом первосвященик і ті, котрі з ним, прийшовши, скликали синедріон, усіх старших з-поміж синів Ізраїля і послали до в’язниці, щоб їх привести.

22

But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told,

Слуги пішли, та у в’язниці їх не знайшли. Повернувшись, сповістили,

23

Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

23

кажучи, що в’язницю знайшли ретельно замкненою, з охороною, яка стояла перед дверима. Але, відчинивши, усередині вони нікого не знайшли.

The Apostles Before the Council

Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.

24

Коли почули ці слова [священик], начальник охорони храму та первосвященики, то дивувалися, як це все могло статися.

25

Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

25

Тут прийшов хтось і сповістив їм, що мужі, яких вони посадили до в’язниці, перебувають у храмі, стоять і навчають народ.

26

Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

26

Тоді начальник охорони пішов зі слугами, привів їх без застосування сили, бо боялися народу, щоб не побив їх камінням.

27

And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,

27

Привівши, вони поставили їх у синедріоні. І первосвященик запитав їх,

28

Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.

28

кажучи: Чи не з погрозою заборонили ми вам навчати в це Ім’я? А ви наповнили Єрусалим вашою наукою і хочете навести на нас кров цього Чоловіка?

29

Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

29

Та Петро й апостоли у відповідь сказали: Потрібно більше слухатися Бога, ніж людей!

30

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.

30

Бог батьків наших воскресив Ісуса, Якого ви вбили, повісивши на дереві.

31

Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

31

Бог підняв Його Своєю правицею як Князя і Спасителя, щоби дати Ізраїлеві покаяння і прощення гріхів.

32

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

32

І ми та Дух Святий, Якого дав Бог тим, хто кориться Йому, є [Його] свідками щодо цих слів!

Gamaliel's Counsel

When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

33

Почувши це, вони лютували і змовлялися їх убити.

34

Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space;

34

Та один фарисей у синедріоні на ім’я Гамалиїл, — законовчитель, шанований усім народом, — уставши, наказав, щоб апостолів вивели на короткий час,

35

And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.

35

а їм сказав: Мужі ізраїльські, поміркуйте між собою щодо цих людей, що ото хочете з ними зробити.

36

For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought.

Недавно об’явився Тевда, кажучи, що він є кимось, — до нього пристало щось із чотириста людей. Він був убитий, і всі, котрі вірили в нього, розсіялися і зійшли на ніщо.

37

After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed.

37

Після нього під час перепису об’явився галилеєць Юда, потягнувши за собою [чимало] народу. І він також загинув, а всі, хто слухав його, розпорошилися.

38

And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought:

38

І нині кажу вам: відступіться від цих людей і залишіть їх. Бо якщо цей задум і ця справа від людей, — вона загине;

39

But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.

39

якщо ж від Бога, то ви не зможете зруйнувати її, — щоби часом не стати вам богоборцями! Тож вони послухали його,

40

And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

40

і, покликавши апостолів, побили їх, пригрозили не говорити в Ім’я Ісуса й відпустили.

41

And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

41

А вони вийшли із синедріону, радіючи, що за Ім’я Господа [Ісуса] удостоїлися прийняти зневагу.

42

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

42

І щодня в храмі й по домах вони не переставали навчати й благовістити про Ісуса Христа.
