The Seven Chosen to Serve

And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

Тими ж днями, як учнів намно́жилось, зачали́ нарікати на євреїв огре́чені, що в щоденному служі́нні їхні вдовиці зане́дбані.

Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

2

Тоді ті Дванадцять покликали багатьо́х учнів та й сказали: „Нам не ли́чить покинути Боже Слово, і служити при стола́х.

3

Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

Отож, браття, ви́глядіть із-поміж себе сімох мужів доброї слави, повних Духа Святого та мудрости, — їх поставимо на службу оцю.

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

4

А ми перебува́тимемо за́вжди в молитві та в служі́нні слову“.

And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

І всім лю́дям сподо́балося оце слово, і обрали Степа́на, мужа повного віри та Духа Святого, і Пилипа, і Про́хора та Никано́ра, і Ти́мона та Парме́на, і нововірця Миколу з Антіохії, —

Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

їх поставили перед апо́столів, і, помолившись, вони руки поклали на них.

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

7

І росло Слово Боже, і ду́же мно́жилося число учнів у Єрусалимі, і дуже багато священиків були слухня́ні вірі.

Stephen Arrested

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

А Степан, повний віри та сили, чинив між наро́дом великі знаме́на та чуда.

Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

Тому дехто повстав із синагоги, що зветься ліберти́нська, і кірінейська, і олександрійська, та з тих, хто походить із Кілікі́ї та з Азії, і зачали́ сперечатись із Степа́ном.

And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

10

Але всто́яти вони не могли проти мудрости й Духа, що він Ним говорив.

Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

11

Тоді вони підмовили людей, що казали, ніби чули, як він богозневажні слова́ говорив на Мойсея та Бога.

And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

12

І людей попідбу́рювали, і старших та книжників, і, напавши, схопи́ли його, і припрова́дили в синедріо́н.

13

And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

Також свідків фальшивих поставили, які говорили: „Чоловік оцей богознева́жні слова́ безпере́стань говорить на це святе місце та проти Зако́ну.

14

For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

14

Бо ми чули, як він говорив, що Ісус Назаряни́н зруйнує це місце та змінить звича́ї, які передав нам Мойсей“.

15

And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

Коли всі, хто в синедріоні сидів, на нього споглянули, то бачили лице його, — як лице Ангола!
