Various Laws

Thou shalt not see thy brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother.

1

Коли побачиш теля свого брата чи його вівцю, що блукає по дорозі, — не оминай їх; неодмінно поверни [1] їх своєму братові.

2

And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.

Якщо ж твій брат не житиме близько від тебе, і ти не знатимеш його, то приведи їх до свого дому, і нехай вони будуть з тобою, доки твій брат не шукатиме їх, — і тоді віддаси їх йому.

3

In like manner shalt thou do with his ass; and so shalt thou do with his raiment; and with all lost thing of thy brother's, which he hath lost, and thou hast found, shalt thou do likewise: thou mayest not hide thyself.

Так учиниш з його ослом, так учиниш з його одягом і так учиниш з будь-якою загубленою річчю свого брата, яку б він не загубив, і яку б ти не знайшов: не можеш оминути їх.

Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass or his ox fall down by the way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again.

Не дивися байдуже на осла свого брата чи його теля, що впали на дорозі, не оминай їх, — неодмінно підніми [2]їх разом із ним.

The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

Хай на жінці не буде чоловічої речі, а чоловік хай не одягає жіночого одягу, бо кожний, хто чинить таке, є огидним для Господа, твого Бога.

If a bird's nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young:

Якщо в дорозі натрапиш перед своїм обличчям на пташине гніздо, чи то на якомусь дереві, чи то на землі, з пташенятами чи з яйцями, і мати сидітиме на пташенятах чи на яйцях, то не забирай матері разом з малятами.

But thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, and take the young to thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days.

Матір обов’язково відпустиш [3] , а малят можеш забрати собі, — щоб тобі було добре, і щоб ти був довголітнім.

When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any man fall from thence.

Якщо збудуєш новий дім, то зроби на своєму даху поруччя, — і так ти не скоїш у своєму домі вбивства, якщо хтось упаде з нього.

Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled.

Не засівай свого виноградника різним насінням, щоб не стали посвячені і врожай, і разом з урожаєм твого виноградника насіння, яке ти посієш.

Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.

Не ори волом та ослом укупі.

Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together.

Не одягайся в одяг з мішаного прядива з вовни та льону разом.

12

Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.

На чотирьох краях свого одягу, в який ти одягаєшся, зроби собі китиці.

Marriage Violations

If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,

Якщо хтось візьме дружину, співжитиме з нею та зненавидить її,

14

And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid:

наговорить на неї наклепницьких слів, пустить про неї погану славу та скаже: Я взяв цю жінку та, зблизившись з нею, не знайшов у неї ознак дівоцтва, —

15

Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate:

то нехай батько й мати дівчини, взявши ознаки дівоцтва дівчини, винесуть їх до старійшин, до брами,

16

And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;

16

й нехай батько дівчини скаже старійшинам: Я віддав цю свою дочку тому чоловікові за дружину, а він, зненавидівши її,

17

And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.

тепер сам наговорює на неї наклепницькі слова, кажучи: Я не знайшов у твоєї дочки ознак дівоцтва, — але ось ознаки дівоцтва моєї дочки! — і розгорнуть перед старійшинами міста одяг.

18

And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him;

18

Тоді старійшини того міста візьмуть цього чоловіка й покарають його,

19

And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.

19

стягнуть з нього сто сиклів і віддадуть їх батькові дівчини за те, що він пустив погану славу про ізраїльську дівчину, а вона буде його дружиною, і він більше ніколи не зможе її прогнати.

20

But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:

20

Якщо ж те слово справдиться, і ознаки дівоцтва дівчини не будуть знайдені,

21

Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.

то нехай ту дівчину приведуть до дверей її батька, і мешканці міста поб’ють її камінням, і вона помре за те, що скоїла безумство в Ізраїлі, чинячи розпусту в домі свого батька, — і так викорениш зло з-посеред вас самих.

22

If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

Якщо буде спійманий якийсь чоловік, який спатиме з жінкою, одруженою з іншим чоловіком, то вбийте обох: чоловіка, який спав з тією жінкою, і ту жінку, — і так викорениш зло з Ізраїлю.

23

If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;

Якщо якась незаймана дівчина буде заручена із чоловіком, і якийсь інший чоловік, зустрівши її в місті, переспить із нею,

24

Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

то виведіть обох до брами їхнього міста, і нехай вони будуть побиті камінням та помруть: дівчина — тому що не кричала в місті, а чоловік — тому що збезчестив жінку ближнього, — і так викорениш зло з-посеред вас самих.

25

But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:

25

Якщо ж якийсь чоловік зустріне заручену дівчину в полі й насильно переспить із нею, то вбийте тільки чоловіка, який спав з нею,

26

But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:

26

а дівчині не чиніть нічого. Дівчина не має смертного гріха, бо це те ж саме, наче якийсь чоловік напав би на ближнього й убив його душу.

27

For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

27

Адже він зустрів її в полі, і заручена дівчина кричала, та не було кому допомогти їй.

28

If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

28

Якщо хтось зустріне незайману дівчину, яка ні з ким не заручена, насильно переспить з нею й буде спійманий на цьому,

29

Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

29

то нехай чоловік, який переспав із нею, віддасть батькові дівчини п’ятдесят дідрахм срібла, і вона буде його дружиною, тому що він збезчестив її, — і він більше ніколи не зможе її прогнати.
