Paul's Joy in the Corinthians

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

1

Мавши оце сї обітування, любі (мої), очищуймо себе від усякої нечистї тїла і духа, звершуючи сьвятість у страсї Божому.

2

Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.

Зрозумійте нас: ми нїкого не скривдили, нїкого не зопсували, нї з кого не здирали.

3

I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.

Не на осуд глаголю; бо попереду сказав я, що в серцях наших ви (такі), щоб умирати з вами і жити.

4

Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

Велика сьмілость моя до вас, велика похвала менї за вас; сповнив ся я утїхою; надто багатий я радощами у всякому горю нашому.

5

For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

Бо, й як прийшли ми в Македонию, нїякого впокою не мало тїло наше, у всьому бідуючи: осторонь боротьби, в серединї страхи.

Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

Та Бог, що втїшає смиренних, утїшив нас приходом Титовим,

7

And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

не тільки ж приходом його, та й утїшеннєм, котрим утїшив ся про вас, оповідуючи ваше бажаннє, ваше риданнє, вашу прихильність до мене, так що я вельми зрадував ся.

For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

Бо хоч я й засмутив вас посланнєм, не каюсь, хоч і каяв ся; бачу бо, що те посланнє, хоч і на час, засмутило вас.

9

Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

Тепер я радуюсь, не тому, що ви засмутились були, а тому, що смуткували на покаяннє; засмутились бо ви по Бозї, щоб нї в чому не було вам шкоди від нас.

10

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Бо смуток по Бозї нерозкаяне покаяннє на спасеннє робить; смуток же сьвіта сього смерть робить.

11

For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Ось бо се саме, що по Бозї смуткували, яке велике зробило в вас дбаннє, а (яке) оправданнє, а жаль, а страх, а бажаннє, а ревність, яке (відомщеннє)! У всьому показали ви, що чисті в сьому дїлї.

Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

А хоч і писав я вам, то не задля того, хто скривдив, і не задля того, хто скривджений, а щоб явилось у вас дбаннє наше про вас, перед Богом.

13

Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

Того ж то втїшились ми втїшеннєм вашим; а й надто більш зрадїли радістю Титовою, що заспокоїв ся дух його від усїх вас.

14

For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.

Бо коли я хваливсь йому чим про вас, то не осоромив ся; а, як усе по правдї говорили ми вам, так і хвала наша перед Титом правдивою була.

15

And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

Серце ж його ще більш до вас (прихиляєть ся), згадуючи послух усїх вас, з яким страхом і трепетом прийняли його.

16

I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

Радуюсь оце, що у всьому можу звіритись вам.
