Live to Please God

Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.

А далі, бра́ття, просимо вас та благаємо в Господі Ісусі, щоб, як прийняли́ ви від нас, як належить поводитись вам та дого́джувати Богові, — як ви й поводитеся, — щоб у тому ще більше зроста́ли!

2

For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

Бо ви знаєте, які вам нака́зи дали ми Господом Ісусом.

3

For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

Бо це воля Божа, — освя́чення ваше: щоб ви береглись від розпусти,

4

That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

4

щоб кожен із вас умів тримати начи́ння своє в святості й честі,

5

Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:

5

а не в при́страсній по́хоті, як і „погани, що Бога не знають“.

6

That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

Щоб ніхто не кривдив і не визи́скував брата свого в якійбудь справі, бо ме́сник Госпо́дь за все це, як і перше казали ми вам та засві́дчили.

7

For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

7

Бо покликав нас Бог не на нечи́стість, але на освя́чення.

8

He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.

8

Отож, хто оце відкида́є, зневажає не люди́ну, а Бога, що нам також дав Свого Духа Святого.

9

But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

А про братолюбство немає потреби писати до вас, бо самі ви від Бога на́вчені люби́ти один о́дного,

10

And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more;

10

бо чините те всім брата́м у всій Македонії. Благаємо ж, браття, ми вас, щоб у цьому ще більш ви зростали,

11

And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

11

і пильно дбали жити спокійно, займатися своїми справами та заробляти своїми руками, як ми вам наказували,

12

That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.

щоб ви перед чужими пристойно пово́дилися, і щоб ні від ко́го не залежали!

13

The Return of the Lord

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

13

Не хо́чу ж я, браття, щоб не відали ви про покі́йних, щоб ви не сумували, як і інші, що надії не мають.

14

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Коли бо ми віруємо, що Ісус був умер і воскрес, так і покі́йних через Ісуса приведе́ Бог із Ним.

15

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

15

Бо це ми вам кажемо словом Господнім, що ми, хто живе, хто полишений до прихо́ду Господнього, — ми не попередимо покі́йних.

16

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

16

Сам бо Господь із нака́зом, при голосі арха́нгола та при Божій сурмі́ зійде з неба, і перше воскре́снуть умерлі в Христі,

17

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

17

потім ми, що живемо́ й зоста́лись, бу́демо схо́плені ра́зом із ними на хмарах на зу́стріч Господню на повітрі, і так за́всіди бу́демо з Господом.

18

Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

18

Отож, потішайте один о́дного цими словами!
