The Day of the Lord

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

1

Братья, нам нет нужды писать вам о временах и сроках.

2

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

Вы и сами хорошо знаете, что День Господа придет неожиданно, как вор ночью.

3

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

Люди будут говорить «мир и безопасность», но внезапно их постигнет гибель, как родовые схватки неожиданно застигают беременную женщину, и тогда никто не убежит.

But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

4

Но вы, братья, не во тьме, чтобы День этот застиг вас внезапно, как вор.

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Вы все сыны света и дня. У нас нет ничего общего с ночью или с тьмой,

Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

поэтому не будем спать, как другие, но будем бодрствовать и оставаться трезвыми.

For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

Ведь спящие спят ночью и пьяницы напиваются ночью.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Но раз мы принадлежим дню, то давайте же оставаться трезвыми, одевшись, как в броню, в веру и любовь, и, как шлем, надев на голову надежду на спасение.12

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Ведь Бог предназначил нас не для гнева, а для спасения, которое мы получаем через Господа нашего Иисуса Христа.

Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

10

Он умер за нас, чтобы нам, окажемся ли мы к тому дню среди умерших или среди живых, жить вместе с Ним.

Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Поэтому ободряйте и укрепляйте друг друга, что вы и делаете.

Christian Living

And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

Мы обращаемся к вам, братья, с просьбой: оказывайте почет тем, кто так усердно трудится среди вас, кто руководит вашей церковью и наставляет вас в следовании Господу.

13

And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

Проявляйте к ним большое уважение и любовь за ту работу, которую они совершают. Будьте в мире друг с другом.

Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

Мы умоляем вас, братья, убеждайте тех, кто не хочет работать; ободряйте боязливых; помогайте слабым духом; будьте терпеливы со всеми.

15

See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

Никто пусть не платит никому злом за зло, но будьте всегда добры друг ко другу и ко всем.

Rejoice evermore.

Pray without ceasing.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Quench not the Spirit.

Не угашайте Духа,

Despise not prophesyings.

пророчеством не пренебрегайте,

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

но все проверяйте и держитесь добра.

Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Избегайте всякого рода зла.

Final Blessings

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

23

Итак, пусть Сам Бог, дающий мир, освятит вас всецело, чтобы ваш дух, душа и тело сохранились непорочными до тех пор, когда придет Господь наш Иисус Христос.

Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

24

Тот, Кто вас призывает, верен, и Он выполнит то, что обещал.

Brethren, pray for us.

25

Братья, молитесь о нас.

Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.
