Guidelines for Reproof

Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;

The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.

Honoring Widows

Honour widows that are widows indeed.

Удовиць шануй, тих що справдї удовицї.

But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.

Коли ж котора вдовиця дїти або внучата має, нехай вчять ся перше свій дім благочестиво спорядити і віддячувати родителям; се бо добре і любо перед Богом.

5

Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.

Тая ж справдї вдовиця, котора одинока, (та) вповає на Бога і пробуває в молитвах і благаннях день і ніч.

But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.

Котора ж роскошує, та жива — вмерла.

And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.

І се наказуй, щоб непорочні були.

But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Коли ж хто про своїх, а найбільш про домашнїх не промишляє, той відцуравсь віри, і гірший од невірного.

Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,

Удовицю ж вибирати не меньше лїт шестидесяти, таку щоб була одному мужу жінкою,

Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

в дїлах добрих сьвідчена, чи дїтей згодувала, чи людей стороннїх приймала, чи сьвятим ноги вмивала, чи бідолашним помагала, чи до всякого дїла доброго щира була.

11

But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;

Молодих же вдовиць не приймай; бо, розбуявшись проти Христа, схочуть заміж;

12

Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.

маючи осуд, що першої віри відцурались.

And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

Ще ж без дїла звикають ходити по домах; не тілько ж без дїла, та й довгоязикі і пронозливі, говорять, чого не годить ся.

14

I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

Тим хочу, щоб молоді вдовицї йшли заміж, дїтей рожали, домом правили і нїякої причини не давали противному до поговору.

15

For some are already turned aside after Satan.

Вже бо деякі звернули слїдом за сатаною.

16

If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.

Коли який вірний або вірна має вдовицї, нехай їм помагає, і нехай не буде тягару для церкви, щоб правдивим удовицям помагати.

Honoring Elders

Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

Которі ж пресвитери пильнують добре, нехай удостоять ся двійної чести, найбільше ж ті, що трудять ся в слові і науцї.

For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

Глаголе бо писаннє: Вола молотячого не заоброчуй; і: Достоїн робітник нагороди своєї.

19

Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.

19

На пресвитера обвинувачення не приймай, хиба при двох або трьох сьвідках.

20

Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

Которі ж згрішять, обличай перед усїма, щоб і инші страх мали.

A Charge to Timothy

I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

21

Заклинаю перед Богом, і Господом Ісус-Христом, і вибраними ангелами, щоб се хоронив без пересуду, нїчого не роблячи по привичцї (пристрастї).

22

Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins: keep thyself pure.

22

Рук скоро не клади нї на кого, анї приставай до чужих гріхів; себе чистим держи.

23

Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

Вже не пий води, а потроху вина приймай, ради жолудка твого і частих твоїх недугів.

24

Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.

В инших людей гріхи явні, попереджують на суд, а за иншими йдуть слїдом.

25

Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

25

Так само й добрі дїла наперед явні, тай що инше, утаїтись не може.
