Nations Left to Test Israel

Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

1

Ці народи залишив Ісус, щоб ними випробувати Ізраїля, усіх тих, які не знали всіх ханаанських воєн,

Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;

тільки для тих поколінь ізраїльських синів, які перед тим не пізнали їх, щоб навчити їх воювати, — тільки їм.

Namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baalhermon unto the entering in of Hamath.

П’ять володінь филистимців, кожного ханаанця, сідонця і евейця, який живе в Лівані, від гори Валаермона до Ловоімата.

And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

І сталося, коли випробовував ними Ізраїль, аби пізнати, чи будуть слухатися Господніх заповідей, які заповів їхнім батькам через Мойсея,

And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites:

And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.

і брали собі за жінок їхніх дочок, а своїх дочок давали їхнім синам, і служили їхнім богам.

Othniel

And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves.

7

Ізраїльські сини чинили зло перед Господом і забули про Господа, свого Бога, і служили Ваалам і у священних гаях.

8

Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushanrishathaim eight years.

І Господь запалав гнівом на Ізраїль і передав їх у руки Хусарсатома, царя річок Сирії, і вони служили йому вісім років.

9

And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.

А тоді заголосили ізраїльські сини до Господа, і Господь підняв спасителя Ізраїлеві, і він спас їх, — Ґотоніїла, сина Кенеза, брата Халева, його молодшого брата, і Він вислухав його.

And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushanrishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushanrishathaim.

Господній дух був на ньому, і він судив Ізраїля. Він виступив на війну, і Господь передав у його руку Хусарсатома, царя Сирії, і його рука запанувала над Хусарсатомом.

And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

Ehud Delivers the Israelites

And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.

Та ізраїльські сини продовжували чинити зло перед Господом. І Господь зміцнив Еґлома, моавського царя, проти Ізраїля, тому що вони чинили зло перед Господом.

13

And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm trees.

13

І він зібрав до себе всіх синів Аммона і Амалика, пішов і розгромив Ізраїля, і успадкував Місто фініків.

14

So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

14

Тож ізраїльські сини служили Еґломові, моавському цареві, вісімнадцять років.

15

But when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, a man lefthanded: and by him the children of Israel sent a present unto Eglon the king of Moab.

І заголосили ізраїльські сини до Господа. І Господь підняв їм спасителя Аода, сина Ґири, нащадка Веніаміна, мужа, який однаково володіє двома руками. Через нього ізраїльські сини послали дари Еґломові, моавському цареві.

16

But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh.

Аод же зробив собі двосічного ножа довжиною в долоню і підперезався ним під своїм плащем на правому стегні.

17

And he brought the present unto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man.

17

І він приніс дари Еґломові, моавському цареві. А Еґлом — муж дуже пещений.

18

And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bare the present.

18

І сталося, коли закінчив Аод приносити дари, то відіслав тих, які несли дари,

19

But he himself turned again from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand unto thee, O king: who said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him.

19

а Еґлон повернувся від ідолів, що біля Ґалґала. І сказав Аод: У мене — таємне слово до тебе, царю! І Еґлом сказав усім: Геть! І вийшли від нього всі, хто стояв біля нього.

20

And Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting in a summer parlour, which he had for himself alone. And Ehud said, I have a message from God unto thee. And he arose out of his seat.

Аод увійшов до нього, а він сів у своїй горішній літній кімнаті сам. Тоді Аод сказав: У мене слово від Бога до тебе, царю! Еґлом підійнявся з престолу — поряд з ним.

21

And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly:

21

І сталося, як тільки він устав, Аод витягнув свою ліву руку, дістав ножа зі свого правого стегна і встромив його в живіт Еґлома,

22

And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.

устромив і держак за лезом, і сало закрилося за ножем, бо він не витягнув ножа з його живота.

23

Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlour upon him, and locked them.

23

Після цього Аод вийшов до передпокою, прикрив за собою двері горішньої кімнати і зачинив їх.

24

When he was gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlour were locked, they said, Surely he covereth his feet in his summer chamber.

24

І він вийшов. Увійшли його раби і побачили, що ось двері літньої кімнати замкнені, і сказали: Напевно він сидить на стільці по потребі?

25

And they tarried till they were ashamed: and, behold, he opened not the doors of the parlour; therefore they took a key, and opened them: and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.

25

І залишалися зніяковілими, тому не було нікого, хто відкрив би двері горішньої кімнати. Та врешті-решт взяли ключ і відкрили, і ось їхній володар лежить на землі мертвий.

26

And Ehud escaped while they tarried, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirath.

26

Доки вони були розгублені, і не було нікого, хто зайнявся би ним, Аод врятувався. Тож він проминув ідолів і врятувався в Сейроті.

27

And it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.

27

І сталося, коли він прийшов, то затрубив у ріг на горі Єфрема, і разом з ним спустилися ізраїльські сини, і він — попереду них.

28

And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over.

28

І закликав їх: Ідіть за мною, бо Господь Бог передав ваших ворогів — Моава — у вашу руку! І вони зійшли за ним, і захопили переходи моавського Йордану, і не дали нікому перейти.

29

And they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valour; and there escaped not a man.

29

І в той час убили з Моава якихось десять тисяч мужів, — усіх їхніх воїнів, усіх боєздатних людей, і жодний не врятувався.

30

So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest fourscore years.

30

У той день Моав був засоромлений рукою Ізраїля, і вісімдесят років земля мала спокій, і Аод був у них суддею, доки не помер.

31

Shamgar

And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.

31

Після цього постав Самеґар, син Аната, і побив филистимців — до шістсот чоловік — за винятком телят волів [1]. І він спас Ізраїля.
