Samuel's Farewell Address

And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you.

І промовив Самуїл до кожного ізраїльського мужа: Ось я послухався вашого голосу в усьому, що ви мені сказали, і я поставив над вами царя.

And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day.

Тепер же іде перед вами цар, а я зістарився й сидітиму, і ось мої сини між вами. І ось я йшов перед вами від моєї молодості й аж до цього дня.

Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.

Ось я, дайте відповідь мені перед Господом і перед Його помазаником. У кого взяв я теля, чи в кого взяв я осла, чи кого з вас я пригнобив, чи на кого вчинив я тиск, і з чиєї руки я взяв хабара і взуття? Дасте мені відповідь, і віддам вам!

And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.

А вони відказали Самуїлові: Ти не вчинив нам несправедливості, ти не гнобив, і ти не громив нас і не взяв нічого із чиїхось рук!

And he said unto them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found ought in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.

І промовив Самуїл до народу: Господь між вами свідок, і сьогодні в цей день свідок — Його помазаник, бо ви не знайшли нічого в моїй руці. А вони сказали: Свідок!

And Samuel said unto the people, It is the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

І сказав Самуїл народові, промовляючи: Свідок — Господь, Який створив Мойсея та Аарона, Хто вивів наших батьків з Єгипту!

Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before the LORD of all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

Тепер станьте, і розсуджуватиму вас перед Господом, і сповіщу вам усю Господню справедливість, яку вчинив між вами і між вашими батьками.

8

When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.

Коли ввійшов Яків та його сини в Єгипет, то пригнобив їх Єгипет, і наші батьки заволали до Господа, і Господь послав Мойсея та Аарона, і вивів наших батьків з Єгипту, і поселив їх на цьому місці.

And when they forgat the LORD their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

Та вони забули про Господа, їхнього Бога, і Він видав їх у руки Сісари, полководця Явіна, царя Асора, і в руки филистимців, і в руки царя Моава, і вони воювали з ними.

And they cried unto the LORD, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the LORD, and have served Baalim and Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.

І вони закричали до Господа, волаючи: Ми згрішили, бо ми покинули Господа і служили Ваалам та священним гаям, тепер же спаси нас з руки наших ворогів, і ми служитимемо Тобі!

11

And the LORD sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and ye dwelled safe.

11

І Господь послав Єроваала, Варака, Єфтая і Самуїла і вирвав вас з руки ваших навколишніх ворогів, і ви жили впевнено.

12

And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king.

І знаєте, що Наас, цар синів Аммона, вийшов проти вас, і ви сказали: Ні, але нехай царює над нами цар! А наш цар — Господь, наш Бог!

13

Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you.

13

Ось тепер цар, якого ви вибрали, і ось Господь дав над вами царя.

14

If ye will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the LORD your God:

14

Якщо ви будете боятися Господа, будете служити Йому і будете слухати Його голосу, не будете змагатися з устами Господа, то будете і ви, і цар, який царює над вами, ходити за Господом.

15

But if ye will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then shall the hand of the LORD be against you, as it was against your fathers.

Якщо ж не будете слухатися Господнього голосу й будете змагатися з устами Господа, то Господня рука буде на вас і на вашому цареві.

16

Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes.

16

Тепер же станьте і гляньте на цю велику справу, яку вчинить Господь на ваших очах.

17

Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king.

17

Хіба сьогодні не жнива пшениці? Я закличу Господа, і Він дасть грім і дощ, і пізнаєте, і побачите, що велике ваше зло, яке ви вчинили перед Господом, попросивши собі царя!

18

So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

18

І прикликав Самуїл Господа, і Господь дав громи та дощ у той день. І весь народ дуже налякався Господа і Самуїла.

19

And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.

19

І весь народ сказав Самуїлові: Помолися за твоїх рабів до Господа, твого Бога, і не помремо, бо ми додали до всіх наших гріхів зло, попросивши собі царя!

20

And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: ye have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart;

20

І сказав Самуїл до народу: Не бійтеся. Ви вчинили все це зло, тільки не відхиліться від слідування за Господом, і служіть Господу всім вашим серцем,

21

And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.

21

і не ухиліться слідом за тими, що є нічим, які не вчинять нічого, і які не спасають, бо є нічим.

22

For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.

22

Адже Господь не покине Свій народ через Своє велике Ім’я, бо з милосердя Господь взяв Собі вас за народ.

23

Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:

23

І я жодним чином не згрішу перед Господом, щоб перестати молитися за вас, і служитиму Господу, і покажу вам добру й правильну дорогу,

24

Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.

24

тільки бійтеся Господа і служіть Йому в правді та всім вашим серцем, бо ви знаєте, які величні речі вчинив Він з вами.

25

But if ye shall still do wickedly, ye shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

25

А якщо ви таки чинитимете зло [1] , то і ви, і ваш цар загинете.
