Jonathan Warns David

And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.

І промовив Саул до свого сина Йонатана і до всіх своїх слуг, щоби вбили Давида. А Йонатан, син Саула, дуже любив Давида,

But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:

тож Йонатан сповістив Давидові, кажучи: Саул шукає тебе вбити! Отже, стережися завтра вранці, сховайся і сиди захованим,

And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.

а я вийду і стану біля мого батька в полі, де ти будеш, заговорю з моїм батьком про тебе й побачу, що буде, і тобі сповіщу.

And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to theeward very good:

І Йонатан доброзичливо заговорив про Давида зі своїм батьком Саулом, звертаючись до нього: Хай цар не згрішить проти твого раба Давида, бо він не згрішив проти тебе, і його діла дуже добрі;

For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

він поклав свою душу у свою руку і побив филистимця, і Господь зробив велике спасіння, і весь Ізраїль побачив і зрадів. Навіщо ж грішиш проти невинної крові, щоб безпідставно вбити Давида?

And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain.

І Саул прислухався до голосу Йонатана, і поклявся Саул, кажучи: Живий Господь! Він не помре!

And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan shewed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.

Тож Йонатан покликав Давида і сповістив йому всі ці слова, і привів Йонатан Давида до Саула, і він був перед ним, як учора й третього дня.

Saul Seeks to Kill David

And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.

А війна проти Саула продовжувалася, і Давид укріпився й воював проти филистимців, і вчинив розгром серед них — дуже велику поразку, і вони втекли з-перед його обличчя.

And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand.

А на Саулі був поганий божий дух, і він залишався бездіяльним у домі, і спис був у його руці, а Давид грав своїми руками.

10

And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin; but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.

І Саул намагався уразити Давида списом, та Давид відступився з-перед Саула, і він наніс списом удар у стіну, а Давид ухилився і врятувався.

Michal Saves David

Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.

І сталося тієї ночі, що Саул послав послів у дім Давида, щоб стерегти його, а вранці його вбити. Та Давидові про це сповістила Мелхола, його жінка, кажучи: Якщо ти цієї ночі не врятуєш своєї душі, то завтра будеш убитий!

So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.

І Мелхола спускає Давида через вікно, і той біжить, утікає і рятується.

And Michal took an image, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster, and covered it with a cloth.

А тим часом Мелхола взяла погребальне і поклала на ліжко, і козячу печінку поклала йому в голови, і покрила все це одягом.

And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.

14

І Саул послав посланців, щоб схопити Давида. А вони кажуть: Він хворий.

And Saul sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

І посилає до Давида, кажучи: Принесіть його до мене на ліжку, щоб його вбити!

And when the messengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster.

І прийшли посланці, і ось погребальне на ліжку, і козяча печінка в його головах.

17

And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

Тоді Саул сказав Мелхолі: Навіщо ти так мене обманула і відіслала мого ворога, і він врятувався? А Мелхола відповіла Саулові: Він сказав: Відішли мене, якщо ж ні, тебе вб’ю!

So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

А Давид втік і врятувався. Він приходить до Самуїла в Арматаїм і сповіщає йому все, що йому вчинив Саул. І пішов Давид і Самуїл, і осіли в Наваті в Рамі.

And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.

А Саулові сповістили, переказуючи: Ось Давид у Наваті в Рамі!

And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

Тож Саул послав послів, щоб схопити Давида, а ті побачили зібрання пророків, і над ними був головуючим Самуїл. І Божий Дух зійшов на послів Саула, і вони почали пророкувати.

21

And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.

Про це сповістили Саулові, і він послав інших послів, та й вони пророкували. І Саул продовжував посилати — третю групу послів, та пророкували й вони.

22

Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah.

І запалав гнівом Саул, пішов і сам до Арматаїма, і приходить аж до Джерела току, що в Сефі. Він запитав: Де Самуїл і Давид? — сказав він. А вони відповіли: Ось у Наваті в Рамі!

And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

І він пішов туди, до Навата в Рамі, і зійшов і на нього Божий Дух, і він ішов, пророкуючи, аж до свого приходу до Навата в Рамі.

24

And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?

І роздягнувся зі свого одягу, і пророкував перед ними, і лежав нагим весь той день і цілу ніч. Через це говорили: Невже і Саул є між пророками?
