Abram and Lot

So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him.

1

Тож пішов Аврам з Єгипту в пустелю, — він сам, його дружина й усе, що його, а разом з ним і Лот.

Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver and in gold.

Аврам був дуже багатим на худобу і на срібло та золото.

He went on his journeys from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

І прибув туди, звідки прийшов, — до Бетелю в пустелю, на місце, де раніше стояв його намет, — між Бетелем і Анґеєм, —

to the place of the altar which he had made there formerly; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

до місцевості, де перед тим спорудив жертовник, і там Аврам прикликав Ім’я Господа.

Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.

І Лот, який ішов з Аврамом, мав овець, волів і намети.

And the land could not sustain them while dwelling together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together.

І не вміщала їх земля, щоб жили разом, оскільки їхнє майно було велике, тож не могли жити разом.

And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. Now the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land.

І зчинилася бійка між пастухами худоби Аврама і між пастухами худоби Лота. А жили тоді на цій землі ханаанці та ферезейці.

So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers.

Тоді Аврам сказав Лотові: Хай не буде незгоди між мною і тобою, між моїми пастухами й твоїми пастухами, адже ми — близькі родичі.

9

“Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me; if to the left, then I will go to the right; or if to the right, then I will go to the left.”

Хіба ж не вся земля перед тобою? Відділися від мене. Якщо ти — ліворуч, то я — праворуч; якщо ж ти — праворуч, то я — ліворуч.

Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the valley of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere — this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah — like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go to Zoar.

Лот, підвівши свої очі, побачив усю Йорданську околицю, що вся вона, перед тим, як Бог знищив Содом та Гоморру, була зрошена водою, як Божий рай, як Єгипетська земля, — та околиця, що на підході до Сиґора!

So Lot chose for himself all the valley of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. Thus they separated from each other.

І обрав собі Лот усю Йорданську околицю. Тож помандрував Лот зі сходу, і вони розлучилися один з одним.

Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled in the cities of the valley, and moved his tents as far as Sodom.

Аврам оселився в землі Ханаанській, а Лот оселився в місті, в околицях, і замешкав у Содомі.

Now the men of Sodom were wicked exceedingly and sinners against the LORD.

Люди, які жили в Содомі, були дуже лихими та грішними перед Богом.

The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward;

І сказав Бог Аврамові після того, як Лот відділився від нього: Підведи свої очі й поглянь з того місця, де ти є тепер, на північ і південь, на схід і на захід.

15

for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever.

15

Бо всю землю, яку ти бачиш, Я навіки дам її тобі й твоєму потомству.

16

“I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered.

І зроблю твоє потомство, як пісок землі, — якщо хтось зможе перерахувати піщинки землі, то й твоє потомство буде пораховане.

17

“Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you.”

17

Уставши, пройдися по землі, пройди її в довжину і в ширину, бо Я дам її тобі.

18

Then Abram moved his tent and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and there he built an altar to the LORD.

18

Згорнувши намети, Аврам пішов і оселився біля мамврійського дуба, який був у Хевроні, і збудував там жертовник Господу.
