  • War of the Kings

    And it came about in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim,
  • The War of the Kings

    And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel the king of Shinar, Arioch the king of El-lasar, Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and Tidal the king of nations,
  • that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).
  • [that] they made war with Bera the king of Sodom, and with Birsha the king of Gomorrah, Shinab the king of Admah, and Shemeber the king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar.
  • All these came as allies to the valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).
  • All these were joined in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea.
  • Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, but the thirteenth year they rebelled.

  • And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah and the king of Admah and the king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) came out; and they arrayed for battle against them in the valley of Siddim,
  • And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar, went out, and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim,
  • against Chedorlaomer king of Elam and Tidal king of Goiim and Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar — four kings against five.
  • with Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and Tidal the king of nations, and Amraphel the king of Shinar, and Arioch the king of Ellasar -- four kings with the five.
  • Now the valley of Siddim was full of tar pits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and they fell into them. But those who survived fled to the hill country.
  • Lot Seized by the Four Kings

    And the vale of Siddim was full of pits of asphalt. And the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there: and they that remained fled to the mountain.
  • Then they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food supply, and departed.
  • And they took all the property of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and departed.
  • They also took Lot, Abram’s nephew, and his possessions and departed, for he was living in Sodom.
  • And they took Lot and his property, Abram's brother's son, and departed. For he dwelt in Sodom.
  • Then a fugitive came and told Abram the Hebrew. Now he was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and these were allies with Abram.
  • Abram Rescues Lot

    And one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew. And he dwelt by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, the brother of Eshcol, and the brother of Aner. And these were Abram's allies.
  • When Abram heard that his relative had been taken captive, he led out his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and went in pursuit as far as Dan.
  • And Abram heard that his brother was taken captive; and he led out his trained [servants], born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued [them] as far as Dan.
  • He divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and defeated them, and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.

  • God’s Promise to Abram

    Then after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley).
  • Melchizedek Blesses Abram

    And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after he had returned from smiting Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, into the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's valley.
  • And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High.
  • And Melchisedec king of Salem brought out bread and wine. And he was priest of the Most High God.
  • He blessed him and said,
    “Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
    Possessor of heaven and earth;
  • And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the Most High God, possessor of heavens and earth.
  • And blessed be God Most High,
    Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”
    He gave him a tenth of all.
  • And blessed be the Most High God, who has delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him the tenth of all.
  • The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give the people to me and take the goods for yourself.”
  • And the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the souls, and take the property for thyself.
  • Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have sworn to the LORD God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth,
  • And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Jehovah, the Most High God, possessor of heavens and earth,
  • that I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours, for fear you would say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’
  • if from a thread even to a sandal-thong, yes, if of all that is thine, I take [anything] ...; that thou mayest not say, I have made Abram rich;
  • “I will take nothing except what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their share.”
  • save only that which the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men that went with me, Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre, let them take their portion.
