Ahaziah’s Messengers Meet Elijah

А по смерті Ахава збунтува́вся Моав на Ізраїля.
And Ahaziah fell through the lattice in his upper chamber which was in Samaria, and became ill. So he sent messengers and said to them, “Go, inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover from this sickness.”
А Аха́зія випав через ґрати в своїй го́рниці, що в Самарії, та й захворі́в. І послав він послів, і сказав до них: „Ідіть, запитайте Ваал-Зевува, екронського бога, чи ви́дужаю я з своєї цієї хвороби?“
But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and say to them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?’
А Ангол Господній говорив до тішб'янина Іллі: „Устань, вийди назу́стріч послів самарійського царя та й скажи їм: Чи через те, що нема в Ізраїлі Бога, ви йдете питатися Ваал-Зевува, екронського бога?
“Now therefore thus says the LORD, ‘You shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’” Then Elijah departed.
Тому так сказав Господь: Із того ліжка, що на нього ти ліг, не встанеш із нього, бо напевно помреш!“ І пішов Ілля.
When the messengers returned to him he said to them, “Why have you returned?”
І вернулися посли до царя, а він сказав до них: „Що́ це ви верну́лися?“
They said to him, “A man came up to meet us and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you and say to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”’”
А вони відказали йому: „Назу́стріч нам вийшов один чоловік, і сказав нам: Ідіть, верніться до царя, що послав вас, і скажіть йому: Так сказав Господь: Чи через те, що нема в Ізраїлі Бога, ти посилаєш ви́відати Ваал-Зевува, екронського бога? Тому́ те ло́же, що на нього ти ліг, — не встанеш із нього, бо напевно помреш“...
He said to them, “What kind of man was he who came up to meet you and spoke these words to you?”
А він їм сказав: „Якого ви́гляду той чоловік, що вийшов назу́стріч вас, і говорив вам оці слова?“
They answered him, “He was a hairy man with a leather girdle bound about his loins.” And he said, “It is Elijah the Tishbite.”
Вони ж відказали: „Де чоловік волоха́тий, а шкуряни́й пояс опере́заний на сте́гнах його“. А він сказав: „Це тішб'янин Ілля!“
Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him, and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. And he said to him, “O man of God, the king says, ‘Come down.’”
І послав він до нього п'ятдеся́тника та його п'ятдеся́тку. І вийшов він до нього, аж ось він сидить на верхі́в'ї гори. І сказав він до нього: „Чоловіче Божий, цар сказав: Зійди ж ізвідти!“
Elijah replied to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.
А Ілля відповів і говорив до того п'ятдесятника: „А якщо я Божий чоловік, нехай зі́йде з неба огонь, і нехай пожере́ тебе та п'ятдесятку твою!“ І зійшов із неба огонь, і поже́р його та його п'ятдесятку...
So he again sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he said to him, “O man of God, thus says the king, ‘Come down quickly.’”
І цар знову послав до нього іншого п'ятдесятника та його п'ятдесятку. І він відповів і сказав до нього: „Чоловіче Божий, отак сказав цар: Зійди ж скоро!“
Elijah replied to them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.
І відповів Ілля та й сказав до нього: „Якщо я Божий чоловік, нехай зі́йде з неба огонь, і нехай пожере́ тебе та твою п'ятдесятку!“ І зійшов із неба Божий огонь, і поже́р його та його п'ятдесятку...
So he again sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. When the third captain of fifty went up, he came and bowed down on his knees before Elijah, and begged him and said to him, “O man of God, please let my life and the lives of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight.
І зно́ву послав він третього п'ятдесятника та його п'ятдесятку. І вийшов, і прийшов третій п'ятдесятник, та й упав на коліна свої перед Іллею, і благав його та до нього говорив: „Чоловіче Божий, нехай же буде дорога́ душа моя та душа твоїх рабів, тих п'ятидесяти́, в оча́х твоїх!
“Behold fire came down from heaven and consumed the first two captains of fifty with their fifties; but now let my life be precious in your sight.”
Ось зійшов був огонь із неба, та й поже́р тих двох перших п'ятдеся́тників та їхні п'ятдеся́тки; а тепер нехай буде дорога́ душа моя в оча́х твоїх!“
The angel of the LORD said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” So he arose and went down with him to the king.
А Ангол Господній сказав до Іллі: „Зійди з ним, не бійся його́!“ І він устав, і зійшов з ним до царя́,
Then he said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron — is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? — therefore you shall not come down from the bed where you have gone up, but shall surely die.’”
Та й сказав до нього: „Так сказав Господь: Тому́, що ти посилав послів, щоб ви́відати від Ваал-Зевува, екронського бога, — ніби в Ізраїлі нема Бога, щоб ви́відати слова́ Його, — тому́ те ло́же, що на нього ти ліг, — не встанеш із нього, бо напевно помреш!“
Jehoram Reigns over Israel
So Ahaziah died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And because he had no son, Jehoram became king in his place in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah.
І той помер, за словом Господа, що говорив до Іллі, а замість нього зацарюва́в Єгора́м, другого року Єгорама, сина Йосафа́та, Юдиного царя, бо не було в нього сина.
