Josiah Succeeds Amon
Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.
Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.
Йосі́я був віку восьми літ, коли він зацарював, і царював в Єрусалимі тридцять і один рік. А ім'я́ його матері Єдида, дочка́ Адаї з Боцкату.
He did right in the sight of the LORD and walked in all the way of his father David, nor did he turn aside to the right or to the left.
І робив він угодне в Господніх оча́х, і ходив усією дорогою свого батька Давида, і не вступався ані праворуч, ані ліворуч.
Now in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam the scribe, to the house of the LORD saying,
І сталося вісімнадцятого року царя Йосії, послав цар Шафана, сина Ацалії, Мешулламового сина, писаря, до Господнього дому, говорячи:
“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest that he may count the money brought in to the house of the LORD which the doorkeepers have gathered from the people.
„Піди до Хілкійї, первосвященика, і нехай перелі́чить те срібло, що зне́сене до Господнього дому, що зібрали від народу сторожі́ поро́га.
“Let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the LORD, and let them give it to the workmen who are in the house of the LORD to repair the damages of the house,
І нехай дадуть його на руку викона́вцям роботи, поставленим у Господньому домі, а ті нехай дадуть його тим, хто працює в Господньому домі, щоб направляти ушко́дження хра́му, —
to the carpenters and the builders and the masons and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the house.
тесляра́м, і будівни́чим, і муляра́м, щоб купувати дерево та те́сане каміння на направу хра́му.
“Only no accounting shall be made with them for the money delivered into their hands, for they deal faithfully.”
Тільки нехай не облічуються з ними про те срібло, що да́не на їхню руку, бо чесно вони роблять“.
The Lost Book
Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan who read it.
І сказав Хілкійя, первосвященик, до писаря Шафана: „Я знайшов у Господньому домі Книгу Зако́ну!“ І дав Хілкійя ту Книгу Шафанові, і той перечитав її.
Shaphan the scribe came to the king and brought back word to the king and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the LORD.”
І ввійшов писар Шафан до царя, і приніс цареві вістку, і сказав: „Раби твої ви́сипали те срібло, що зна́йдене в домі, і дали́ його на руку виконавцям робо́ти, поставленим у Господньому домі“.
Moreover, Shaphan the scribe told the king saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it in the presence of the king.
І доніс писар Шафан цареві, говорячи: „Священик Хілкійя дав мені книгу“. І Шафан перечитав її перед царем.
When the king heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.
І сталося, як цар почув слова Книги Зако́ну, то роздер свої шати...
Then the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant saying,
І наказав цар священикові Хілкійї, і Ахікамові, Шафановому синові, і Ахборові, Міхаїному синові, і писареві Шафанові, і Асаї, царе́вому слузі, говорячи:
“Go, inquire of the LORD for me and the people and all Judah concerning the words of this book that has been found, for great is the wrath of the LORD that burns against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”
„Ідіть, зверніться до Господа про мене й про народ, та про всього Юду, про слова цієї зна́йденої книги. Великий бо гнів Господній, що запалився на нас за те, що батьки наші не слухалися слів цієї книги, щоб робити все, що написано про нас“.
Huldah Predicts
So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter); and they spoke to her.
І пішов священик Хілкійя, і Ахікам, і Ахбор, і Шафан, і Асая до пророчиці Хулди, жінки Шаллума, сина Тікви, сина Хархасового, сто́рожа шат, — вона сиділа в Єрусалимі, на Ново́му Місті, — і говорили до неї.
She said to them, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel, ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,
А вона сказала до них: „Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів: Скажіть чоловікові, що послав вас до мене:
thus says the LORD, “Behold, I bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.
Так говорить Господь: Ось Я наведу́ лихо на оце місце та на ме́шканців його, усі слова́ тієї книги, що читав Юдин цар,
“Because they have forsaken Me and have burned incense to other gods that they might provoke Me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore My wrath burns against this place, and it shall not be quenched.”’
за те, що вони покинули Мене, і кадили іншим богам, щоб гніви́ти Мене всім ді́лом своїх рук. І розпали́вся Мій гнів на це місце, — і він не погасне!
“But to the king of Judah who sent you to inquire of the LORD thus shall you say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD God of Israel, “Regarding the words which you have heard,
А Юдиному цареві, що послав вас звернутися до Господа, скажете йому так: Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів, — ті слова́, які ти чув:
because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants that they should become a desolation and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before Me, I truly have heard you,” declares the LORD.
За те, що зм'я́кло твоє серце, і ти впокори́вся перед Господнім лицем, коли почув, що́ Я говорив про це місце та про ме́шканців його, що вони стануть спусто́шенням та прокля́ттям, і що ти роздер шати свої та плакав перед Моїм лицем, то Я також почув, — говорить Господь.
“Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.”’” So they brought back word to the king.
Тому́ то Я прилучу́ тебе до батьків твоїх, і ти будеш прилу́чений до гробів своїх у мирі, і очі твої не побачать усього того лиха, що Я наво́джу на оце місце“. І вони прине́сли цю вістку цареві.
