David’s Family Enlarged

Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David with cedar trees, masons and carpenters, to build a house for him.

А Хіра́м, цар тирський, послав до Давида послів, і ке́дрового дерева, каменярі́в та теслярі́в, щоб збудувати йому дім.

And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom was highly exalted, for the sake of His people Israel.

І пізнав Дави́д, що Госпо́дь міцно поставив його́ царем над Ізраїлем, бо царство його було підне́сене ви́соко ради народу його, Ізраїля.

Then David took more wives at Jerusalem, and David became the father of more sons and daughters.

І взяв Давид іще жіно́к в Єрусалимі, — і Давид породив іще сині́в та дочо́к.

These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,

Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,

і Ївхар, і Елішуя, і Елпелет,

Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,

Philistines Defeated

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up in search of David; and David heard of it and went out against them.

І почули филисти́мляни, що Давид був пома́заний на царя над усім Ізраїлем, — і підняли́ся всі филисти́мляни, щоб шукати Давида. А Давид почув про це, і вийшов проти них.

Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.

А филисти́мляни прийшли й стали табо́рами в долині Рефаїм.

David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You give them into my hand?” Then the LORD said to him, “Go up, for I will give them into your hand.”

І питався Давид у Бога, говорячи: „Чи вихо́дити на филисти́млян, і чи даси Ти їх в руку мою?“ І відказав йому Господь: „Вийди, — і Я дам їх у руку твою“.

11

So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there; and David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters.” Therefore they named that place Baal-perazim.

І зійшли́ вони до Баал-Пераціму, — і Давид побив їх там. І сказав Давид: „Розбив Бог ворогів моїх рукою моєю, як прори́в води!“ Тому назвали ім'я́ того місця: Баал-Перацім!

They abandoned their gods there; so David gave the order and they were burned with fire.

А вони позоста́вили там богів своїх, і Давид наказав, — і вони були спа́лені в огні.

13

The Philistines made yet another raid in the valley.

А филисти́мляни ще ота́борилися в долині.

14

David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around behind them and come at them in front of the balsam trees.

А Давид іще питався Бога, і Бог йому сказав: „Не пі́деш за ними, а поверни́ від них, і прибу́деш до них з-навпроти бальза́мового ліска́.

15

“It shall be when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God will have gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”

І станеться, як ти почуєш шелест ніби кроків на верхові́ттях бальза́мових дерев, тоді ви́йдеш на бій, бо то вийшов Бог перед тебе, щоб побити филисти́мський та́бір“.

David did just as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even as far as Gezer.

16

І зробив Давид так, як наказав йому Бог, і вони побили филисти́мський та́бір від Ґів'ону аж до Ґезеру.

17

Then the fame of David went out into all the lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him on all the nations.

17

І не́слося Дави́дове ім'я́ по всіх края́х, а Госпо́дь дав, що всі наро́ди боялись його́.
