Коли Давид постарівся й нажився доволї, то настановив царем над Ізраїлем сина свого Соломона.
And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel with the priests and the Levites.
І зібрав усїх Ізраїлських князїв і сьвященників, і левітів.
Offices of the Levites
The Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward, and their number by census of men was 38,000.
І полїчено левітів від трийцяти років й старійших, і було їх лїком, голова в голову, трийцять і вісїм тисяч чоловіка.
Of these, 24,000 were to oversee the work of the house of the LORD; and 6,000 were officers and judges,
З їх приставлено до послуги в домі Господньому двайцять чотири тисячі, а за писарів та суддїв шість тисяч;
and 4,000 were gatekeepers, and 4,000 were praising the LORD with the instruments which David made for giving praise.
Також чотири тисячі придверників, та чотирі тисячі прославляючих Господа на музичних приборах, що їх поробив задля прослави.
David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
І Давид завів для їх чергу по синах Левіїних — Герзонові, Кагатові та Мерарієві.
The sons of Ladan were Jehiel the first and Zetham and Joel, three.
Сини Лаєданові: перший Ехиїл, Зетам та Йоїль, троє.
The sons of Shimei were Shelomoth and Haziel and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan.
Сини Шимеєві: Шеломит, Хазиїл та Гаран, троє. Вони голови в поколїннях Лаєданових.
The sons of Shimei were Jahath, Zina, Jeush and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
Та ще сини Шимеєві: Яхат, Зиза, Еуш та Берія. Це сини Шимеєві, четверо.
Jahath was the first and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they became a father’s household, one class.
Яхат був головним, Зиза другим; Еуш та Берія мали небагато дїтей, і через те були вони полїчені разом із батьковим домом.
Kohathites
The sons of Kohath were four: Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel.
Сини Кагатові: Амрам, Ізгар, Хеврон та Озиїл, четверо.
The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was set apart to sanctify him as most holy, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister to Him and to bless in His name forever.
Сини Амрамові: Аарон та Мойсей. Аарон був одлучений до служби в частї пресьвятій (Сьвятая Сьвятих), сам він і сини його, по віки, щоб палити кадило перед лицем Господнїм, щоб його хвалити й благословити іменем його по віки.
But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.
А Мойсей, чоловік Божий, та сини його записані в поколїннї Левіїному.
The son of Eliezer was Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
Сини в Елиезера були: перший Рехавія. І не було в Елиезера других синів; а в Рехавії було дуже багато синів.
The sons of Hebron were Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third and Jekameam the fourth.
Сини Хевронові: перший Ерія, а другий Амарія, третій Яхазиїл а четвертий Екамам.
The sons of Uzziel were Micah the first and Isshiah the second.
Сини Озиїлові: перший Миха, а другий Ішшія.
Merarites
The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and Kish.
Сини Мерарині: Махлі та Муші. Сини Махлїєві: Елеазар за Кис.
Eleazar died and had no sons, but daughters only, so their brothers, the sons of Kish, took them as wives.
І помер Елеазар, і не було в його синів, а тільки дочки; й побрали їх за себе сини Кисові, їх брати.
The sons of Mushi were three: Mahli, Eder and Jeremoth.
Сини Мушієві: Махлі, Едер та Іремот, троє.
Duties Revised
These were the sons of Levi according to their fathers’ households, even the heads of the fathers’ households of those of them who were counted, in the number of names by their census, doing the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from twenty years old and upward.
Оце сини Левіїні, по домах батьків їх, голови родин, що були полїчені поіменно голова в голову, та що робили дїло служби в домі Господньому, від двайцяти років й висше.
For David said, “The LORD God of Israel has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever.
Бо Давид сказав: Господь, Бог Ізрайлїв, дав спокій своєму народові й осадив його в Ерусалимі по віки;
“Also, the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its utensils for its service.”
І левітам не треба носити намет та всякий посуд до служби в йому.
For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered from twenty years old and upward.
Через це по останньому приказу Давидовому полїчено левітів від двайцяти років і висше,
For their office is to assist the sons of Aaron with the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts and in the chambers and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God,
Щоб вони були при синах Аронових до служби в домі Господньому, в дворі й в прилежних будинках, до наглядання за чистотою в цїлій сьвятинї та до всякої роботи службової при домі Божому;
and with the showbread, and the fine flour for a grain offering, and unleavened wafers, or what is baked in the pan or what is well-mixed, and all measures of volume and size.
(А сьвященники) до нагляду за хлїбом показним і пшеничною мукою на хлїбні жертви, та коржами, й сковородами, й печивом, і за всякою мірою та вагою.
They are to stand every morning to thank and to praise the LORD, and likewise at evening,
(А левіти) щоб ставали що-ранку дякувати й славити Господа, а так само що-вечора
and to offer all burnt offerings to the LORD, on the sabbaths, the new moons and the fixed festivals in the number set by the ordinance concerning them, continually before the LORD.
При приношеннях Господеві жертов всепалення що суботи, й на новому місяцї, й в празники по їх числу, як про їх написано, — непереривно перед лицем Господнїм,
