Judah Invaded

Now it came about after this that the sons of Moab and the sons of Ammon, together with some of the Meunites, came to make war against Jehoshaphat.

Then some came and reported to Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, out of Aram and behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar (that is Engedi).”

К Иосафату пришли и сказали: "Из Эдома идёт против тебя огромное войско. Они идут из-за моря. Они уже в Хацацон-Фамаре, то есть в Енгедди!"

Jehoshaphat was afraid and turned his attention to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

Иосафат испугался и решил спросить Господа, что делать. Он объявил пост для всех в Иудее.

So Judah gathered together to seek help from the LORD; they even came from all the cities of Judah to seek the LORD.

Jehoshaphat’s Prayer

Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD before the new court,

and he said, “O LORD, the God of our fathers, are You not God in the heavens? And are You not ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand so that no one can stand against You.

и сказал: "Господь, Бог наших предков, Ты — Бог во вселенной! Ты правишь над всеми царствами народов! У Тебя есть мощь и сила! Никто не может устоять против Тебя!

“Did You not, O our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel and give it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever?

Ты — наш Бог! Ты изгнал людей, которые жили в этой земле. Ты сделал это перед Твоим народом Израиля. Ты дал эту землю потомкам Авраама навеки. Авраам был Твоим другом.

“They have lived in it, and have built You a sanctuary there for Your name, saying,

Потомки Авраама жили в этой земле и построили храм Твоему имени.

‘Should evil come upon us, the sword, or judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before You (for Your name is in this house) and cry to You in our distress, and You will hear and deliver us.’

Они говорили: "Если к нам придёт беда — меч, наказание, болезнь или голод, мы станем перед этим храмом и перед Тобой. Твоё имя в этом храме. Мы обратимся к Тебе, когда окажемся в беде, и тогда Ты услышишь и спасёшь нас".

“Now behold, the sons of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom You did not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt (they turned aside from them and did not destroy them),

Но теперь здесь аммонитяне, моавитяне и люди с горы Сеира! Ты не позволил народу Израиля войти в их земли, когда народ Израиля шёл из Египта. Поэтому народ Израиля свернул в сторону и не истребил эти народы.

see how they are rewarding us by coming to drive us out from Your possession which You have given us as an inheritance.

Но видишь, чем платят нам эти люди за то, что не были уничтожены. Они пришли, чтобы выгнать нас из Твоей земли, которую Ты дал нам.

“O our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”

Бог наш, накажи этих людей! У нас нет силы против огромного войска, которое идёт на нас! Мы не знаем, что делать! Поэтому мы обращаемся к Тебе за помощью!"

All Judah was standing before the LORD, with their infants, their wives and their children.

13

Весь народ Иудеи стоял перед Господом со своими младенцами, жёнами и старшими детьми.

Jahaziel Answers the Prayer

Then in the midst of the assembly the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite of the sons of Asaph;

Тогда Дух Господа сошёл на Иозиила, сына Захарии. Захария был сыном Ваней, Ванея был сыном Иеила. Иеил был сыном Матфании. Иозиил был левитом и потомком Асафа. И посреди собрания

and he said, “Listen, all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: thus says the LORD to you, ‘Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.

Иозиил сказал: "Послушайте меня, царь Иосафат и все жители Иудеи и Иерусалима! Господь говорит вам так: "Не бойтесь и не ужасайтесь этого большого войска, потому что битва эта не ваша. Это битва Бога!

‘Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they will come up by the ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the valley in front of the wilderness of Jeruel.

Завтра спуститесь туда и сразитесь с этими людьми. Они будут подниматься по перевалу Циц. Вы найдёте их в конце долины с другой стороны пустыни Иеруилом.

17

‘You need not fight in this battle; station yourselves, stand and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out to face them, for the LORD is with you.”

Вы не должны будете сражаться в этой битве. Крепко стойте на своих местах. Вы увидите, Господь спасёт вас. Иудея и Иерусалим, не бойтесь и не ужасайтесь, выходите завтра против этих людей, Господь будет с вами!""

Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the LORD, worshiping the LORD.

Иосафат низко поклонился, лицом до земли. И весь народ Иудеи и жители Иерусалима пали перед Господом. И все они почтили Господа.

19

The Levites, from the sons of the Kohathites and of the sons of the Korahites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel, with a very loud voice.

19

Левиты из колена Каафа и колена Корея встали, чтобы прославлять Господа, Бога Израиля. И прославляли они Господа громкими голосами.

20

Enemies Destroy Themselves

They rose early in the morning and went out to the wilderness of Tekoa; and when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, O Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, put your trust in the LORD your God and you will be established. Put your trust in His prophets and succeed.”

Войско Иосафата вошло в пустыню Фекойскую рано утром. Когда они выступили, Иосафат встал и сказал: "Послушайте меня, народ Иудеи и жители Иерусалима. Поверьте в Господа, Бога вашего, и тогда вы станете сильными. Поверьте в пророков Господа, и будет вам успех!"

When he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who sang to the LORD and those who praised Him in holy attire, as they went out before the army and said, “Give thanks to the LORD, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.”

Иосафат послушался совета народа. Он выбрал людей, чтобы они были певцами для Господа. Эти певцы были избраны, чтобы прославлять Господа, ибо Он свят и прекрасен. Они шли перед войском и прославляли Господа. Эти певцы говорили: "Благодарите Господа, ибо Его любовь вечна!"

When they began singing and praising, the LORD set ambushes against the sons of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; so they were routed.

Когда люди начали петь и прославлять Бога, Господь устроил засаду для моавитян, аммонитян и для людей с горы Сеира. Это были люди, которые пришли напасть на Иудею, но сами были разбиты.

23

For the sons of Ammon and Moab rose up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir destroying them completely; and when they had finished with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

Аммонитяне и моавитяне стали драться против людей с горы Сеира. Они убили и уничтожили всех людей с горы Сеира, а когда покончили с ними, то стали убивать друг друга.

24

When Judah came to the lookout of the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude, and behold, they were corpses lying on the ground, and no one had escaped.

Народ Иудеи добрался до возвышенности в пустыне. Они взглянули на огромное войско врага, но увидели лишь мёртвые тела, лежащие на земле. Никто не спасся.

25

When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take their spoil, they found much among them, including goods, garments and valuable things which they took for themselves, more than they could carry. And they were three days taking the spoil because there was so much.

Иосафат и его народ пришли забрать ценные вещи. Они нашли много животных, богатства, одежды и драгоценных вещей и взяли их себе, и добра было больше, чем они могли унести. Три дня они собирали ценные вещи с мёртвых тел, так всего было много!

Triumphant Return to Jerusalem

Then on the fourth day they assembled in the valley of Beracah, for there they blessed the LORD. Therefore they have named that place “The Valley of Beracah” until today.

На четвёртый день Иосафат и его войско собрались в долине благословения. Там они благословили Господа. Вот почему то место и до сих пор называется долиной благословения.

27

Every man of Judah and Jerusalem returned with Jehoshaphat at their head, returning to Jerusalem with joy, for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

Затем Иосафат повёл весь народ Иудеи и Иерусалима назад в Иерусалим. Господь дал им радость, ибо враги их были разбиты.

They came to Jerusalem with harps, lyres and trumpets to the house of the LORD.

And the dread of God was on all the kingdoms of the lands when they heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel.

Все царства во всех странах боялись Господа, ибо слышали, что Господь воевал против врагов Израиля.

So the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace, for his God gave him rest on all sides.

Поэтому в царстве Иосафата был мир. Бог Иосафата дал ему мир со всех сторон.

Now Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-five years. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

Иосафат правил Иудеей. Иосафату было тридцать пять лет, когда он начал своё правление. Он правил в Иерусалиме двадцать пять лет. Его мать звали Азува, дочь Салаила.

He walked in the way of his father Asa and did not depart from it, doing right in the sight of the LORD.

The high places, however, were not removed; the people had not yet directed their hearts to the God of their fathers.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first to last, behold, they are written in the annals of Jehu the son of Hanani, which is recorded in the Book of the Kings of Israel.

Alliance Displeases God

After this Jehoshaphat king of Judah allied himself with Ahaziah king of Israel. He acted wickedly in so doing.

So he allied himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish, and they made the ships in Ezion-geber.

Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat saying, “Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the LORD has destroyed your works.” So the ships were broken and could not go to Tarshish.
