People Who Went with Ezra

Now these are the heads of their fathers’ households and the genealogical enrollment of those who went up with me from Babylon in the reign of King Artaxerxes:

І оце голови в поколїннях і родовід тих, що вийшли зо мною з Вавилону за царювання царя Артаксеркса:

of the sons of Phinehas, Gershom; of the sons of Ithamar, Daniel; of the sons of David, Hattush;

З синів Пинеесових — Герсон; із синів Ітамарових — Даниїл; із синів Давидових — Хаттуш;

3

of the sons of Shecaniah who was of the sons of Parosh, Zechariah and with him 150 males who were in the genealogical list;

З синів Шеханїї, з синів Пароша — Захарія, а з ним по рододівному списові сто пятьдесять душ мужого полу;

4

of the sons of Pahath-moab, Eliehoenai the son of Zerahiah and 200 males with him;

З синів Пахат-Моава, Елеєгенай, син Зерахії, а з ним двістї душ мужого полу;

of the sons of Zattu, Shecaniah, the son of Jahaziel and 300 males with him;

and of the sons of Adin, Ebed the son of Jonathan and 50 males with him;

and of the sons of Elam, Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah and 70 males with him;

and of the sons of Shephatiah, Zebadiah the son of Michael and 80 males with him;

of the sons of Joab, Obadiah the son of Jehiel and 218 males with him;

and of the sons of Bani, Shelomith, the son of Josiphiah and 160 males with him;

and of the sons of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai and 28 males with him;

З синів Бевая, Захарія Беваєнко, а з ним двайцять вісїм душ мужого полу;

and of the sons of Azgad, Johanan the son of Hakkatan and 110 males with him;

З синів Азгада, Йоханан Гаккатаненко, а з ним сто десять душ мужого полу;

13

and of the sons of Adonikam, the last ones, these being their names, Eliphelet, Jeuel and Shemaiah, and 60 males with them;

З синів Адоникама останок, а се їх імення: Елифелет, Егел і Шемаїя, а з ними шістьдесять душ мужого полу;

14

and of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zabbud, and 70 males with them.

З синів Бигвая, Утай та Заббуд, а з ними сїмдесять душ мужого полу.

Ezra Sends for Levites

Now I assembled them at the river that runs to Ahava, where we camped for three days; and when I observed the people and the priests, I did not find any Levites there.

15

Я зібрав їх коло ріки, що вливається в Агаву, й там простояли ми три днї, а як я переглянув народ та сьвященників, то з синів Левії не знайшов там нїкого.

16

So I sent for Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah and Meshullam, leading men, and for Joiarib and Elnathan, teachers.

16

І послав я покликати Еліезера, Арієла, Шемаїю і Елнатана, й Ярива, Елнатана, й Натана, і Захарію, й Мешуллама — головних, і Йохрива та Елнатана — вчених;

17

I sent them to Iddo the leading man at the place Casiphia; and I told them what to say to Iddo and his brothers, the temple servants at the place Casiphia, that is, to bring ministers to us for the house of our God.

І дав їм наказ до Іддо, старшини в твердинї Касифії, й вложив їм в уста, що говорити до Іоддо й братів його, нетинеїв в місцевостї Касифії, щоб вони привели до нас послужників для дому Бога нашого.

18

According to the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of insight of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel, namely Sherebiah, and his sons and brothers, 18 men;

І привели вони до нас, бо добродїйна рука Бога нашого була над нами, чоловіка розумного, з синів Малхія, сина Левіїного, сина Ізрайлевого, се б то Шеревію, й синів його, й братів його, вісїмнайцять душ;

19

and Hashabiah and Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, with his brothers and their sons, 20 men;

19

І Хашавію, а з ним Ешаїю з синів Мераріїних, і братів його, й синів їх — двайцять;

20

and 220 of the temple servants, whom David and the princes had given for the service of the Levites, all of them designated by name.

20

А з нетинеїв, що їх призначив був Давид та князї його до послуги левітам, двістї дванайцять нетинеїв; усї вони названі по іменнях.

21

Protection of God Invoked

Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God to seek from Him a safe journey for us, our little ones, and all our possessions.

І оповістив там піст коло ріки Агави, щоб нам впокоритись перед лицем Бога нашого, та просити в його щасливої дороги для себе й наших дїтей, та для усього нашого добутку;

22

For I was ashamed to request from the king troops and horsemen to protect us from the enemy on the way, because we had said to the king, “The hand of our God is favorably disposed to all those who seek Him, but His power and His anger are against all those who forsake Him.”

Бо менї було сором прохати в царя війська та кінноти для нашого захисту від ворога в дорозї, ми бо, говорячи з царем, сказали: рука нашого Бога є найлїпша для всїх, хто його шукає, а його сила й гнїв його на всїх, хто його покидає!

23

So we fasted and sought our God concerning this matter, and He listened to our entreaty.

23

Так то ми постили й просили Бога нашого про се, й він почув нас.

24

Then I set apart twelve of the leading priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and with them ten of their brothers;

24

І видїлив я з старших сьвященників дванайцять: Шеревію, Хашавію, а з ними десять із братів їх,

25

and I weighed out to them the silver, the gold and the utensils, the offering for the house of our God which the king and his counselors and his princes and all Israel present there had offered.

25

І зважив їм срібло й золото й посуд, — усе пожертвоване на дім Бога нашого, що пожертвував царь та дорадники його, й князї його, та всї Ізрайлитяне, що там були.

26

Thus I weighed into their hands 650 talents of silver, and silver utensils worth 100 talents, and 100 gold talents,

І віддав їм до рук вагою: срібла шістьсот пятьдесять талантів, а срібного посуду на сто талантів: золота ж сто талантів,

27

and 20 gold bowls worth 1,000 darics, and two utensils of fine shiny bronze, precious as gold.

27

А золотих чаш двайцять по тисячу драхм, і дві посудині з кращої блискучої мідї, дорогої як золото.

28

Then I said to them, “You are holy to the LORD, and the utensils are holy; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the LORD God of your fathers.

28

І сказав я їм: ви сьвяті Господеві й посуд сьвятий, і срібло та золото — добровільна жертва Господеві, Богові батьків ваших;

29

“Watch and keep them until you weigh them before the leading priests, the Levites and the heads of the fathers’ households of Israel at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD.”

29

Будьте же обачні й стережіть се, доки не здасте на вагу начальникам між сьвященниками та левітами й головам в поколїннях Ізрайлевих в Ерусалимі, в скарбівню дому Господнього.

30

So the priests and the Levites accepted the weighed out silver and gold and the utensils, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God.

30

І забрали сьвященники та левіти зважене срібло і золото та посуд, щоб нести в Ерусалим у дом Бога нашого.

31

Then we journeyed from the river Ahava on the twelfth of the first month to go to Jerusalem; and the hand of our God was over us, and He delivered us from the hand of the enemy and the ambushes by the way.

І рушили ми від ріки Агави дванайцятого дня першого місяця, щоб ійти в Ерусалим, а рука Бога нашого була над нами і спасала нас від руки ворога й тих, що засїдали на нас в дорозї.

32

Thus we came to Jerusalem and remained there three days.

32

І прийшли ми в Ерусалим, і перебули там три днї.

33

Treasure Placed in the Temple

On the fourth day the silver and the gold and the utensils were weighed out in the house of our God into the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest, and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them were the Levites, Jozabad the son of Jeshua and Noadiah the son of Binnui.

Четвертого ж дня здали ми під вагу срібло й золото й посуд в дім Бога нашого до рук Меремотові Урієнкові, сьвященникові, а з ним Елеазарові Пинеесенкові, а з ним Йозабадові, синові Ісусовому, і Ноадїї Виннуєнкові, левітам,

Everything was numbered and weighed, and all the weight was recorded at that time.

34

Усе під лїк та під вагу. І записано все зважене в той таки час.

35

The exiles who had come from the captivity offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel: 12 bulls for all Israel, 96 rams, 77 lambs, 12 male goats for a sin offering, all as a burnt offering to the LORD.

35

Бранцї же, що прийшли з полону, принесли на всепаленнє Богові Ізрайлевому дванайцять назимків за всього Ізраїля, девятьдесять шість баранів, сїмдесять сїм ягнят та дванайцять козлів на жертву за гріх — усе це на всепаленнє Господеві.

36

Then they delivered the king’s edicts to the king’s satraps and to the governors in the provinces beyond the River, and they supported the people and the house of God.

36

І передали царський приказ царським сатрапам* і зарічанським начальникам країни, а сї пошанували народ і дім Божий.
