The Plague of Locusts
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may perform these signs of Mine among them,
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may perform these signs of Mine among them,
І промовив Господь до Мойсея, кажучи: Увійди до фараона, бо Я зробив непоступливим його серце і серце його рабів, щоб і надалі відбувалися ці ознаки для них.
and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your grandson, how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and how I performed My signs among them, that you may know that I am the LORD.”
Щоб ви донесли до вух ваших дітей і до дітей ваших дітей, як Я насміявся з єгиптян, та про Мої ознаки, які Я вчинив серед них. І ви будете знати, що Я — Господь.
Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.
Тож Мойсей та Аарон увійшли до фараона й сказали йому: Так говорить Господь, Бог євреїв: Доки не бажатимеш вшанувати Мене? Відпусти Мій народ, щоб поклонився Мені.
‘For if you refuse to let My people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your territory.
Якщо ж не забажаєш відпустити Мого народу, то ось Я в цю пору завтра наведу велику сарану на весь твій край.
‘They shall cover the surface of the land, so that no one will be able to see the land. They will also eat the rest of what has escaped — what is left to you from the hail — and they will eat every tree which sprouts for you out of the field.
І вона вкриє поверхню землі, так що не зможеш побачити землю, і поз’їдає всі рештки того, що вціліло у вас після граду, і об’їдене буде кожне дерево, яке росте у вас на землі.
‘Then your houses shall be filled and the houses of all your servants and the houses of all the Egyptians, something which neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen, from the day that they came upon the earth until this day.’” And he turned and went out from Pharaoh.
Вона наповнить твої будинки і будинки твоєї прислуги, — усі будинки в усій Єгипетській землі. Такого ще ніколи не бачили ні твої батьки, ні їхні прадіди, з дня, відколи існують на землі, аж донині! І, повернувшись, Мойсей вийшов від фараона.
Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God. Do you not realize that Egypt is destroyed?”
А слуги фараона кажуть йому: Доки він буде для нас колючкою? Відпусти людей, хай поклоняться Господу, своєму Богові! Чи ти не бажаєш усвідомити, що Єгипет знищений?
So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go, serve the LORD your God! Who are the ones that are going?”
І повернули Мойсея та Аарона до фараона, і той сказав їм: Підіть поклоніться Господу, вашому Богові. Хто? Хто ті, які підуть?
Moses said, “We shall go with our young and our old; with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds we shall go, for we must hold a feast to the LORD.”
А Мойсей каже: Ми підемо з дітьми і старцями, із синами і дочками, з вівцями і нашою худобою. Адже це — свято для Господа, нашого Бога.
Then he said to them, “Thus may the LORD be with you, if ever I let you and your little ones go! Take heed, for evil is in your mind.
А той відповів їм: Нехай Господь буде так з вами, як я відпускаю вас з вашим майном! Дивіться, у вас — злі наміри!
“Not so! Go now, the men among you, and serve the LORD, for that is what you desire.” So they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.
Так не буде! Хай підуть лише чоловіки і поклоняться Богові. Адже ви самі цього домагаєтеся! І їх вигнали з-перед обличчя фараона.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up on the land of Egypt and eat every plant of the land, even all that the hail has left.”
Тоді Господь сказав Мойсеєві: Простягни руку на Єгипетську землю, і нехай налетить на землю сарана, і нехай поїсть усю рослинність землі й усі плоди дерев, які залишилися після граду.
So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the LORD directed an east wind on the land all that day and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
І підняв Мойсей посох до неба, і Господь навів на землю південний вітер, — він дув весь той день і всю ніч. Настав ранок, і південний вітер нагнав сарану.
The locusts came up over all the land of Egypt and settled in all the territory of Egypt; they were very numerous. There had never been so many locusts, nor would there be so many again.
Він наніс її на всю Єгипетську землю, — в дуже великій кількості вона осіла на всіх Єгипетських землях. Ні до цього часу не було такої сарани і після цього такої не буде.
For they covered the surface of the whole land, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every plant of the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Thus nothing green was left on tree or plant of the field through all the land of Egypt.
Вона покрила земну поверхню, і земля була знищена. І вона поїла всю рослинність землі й усі плоди на деревах, які залишилися після граду. Не зосталося жодної зелені на деревах і на жодній рослині на рівнині в усій Єгипетській землі.
Then Pharaoh hurriedly called for Moses and Aaron, and he said, “I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you.
І фараон з поспіхом покликав Мойсея та Аарона, кажучи: Згрішив я перед Господом, вашим Богом, і проти вас.
“Now therefore, please forgive my sin only this once, and make supplication to the LORD your God, that He would only remove this death from me.”
Отже, ще й сьогодні простіть мій гріх і помоліться Господу, вашому Богові, нехай забере цю смерть від мене.
He went out from Pharaoh and made supplication to the LORD.
Мойсей вийшов від фараона і помолився Богові.
So the LORD shifted the wind to a very strong west wind which took up the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea; not one locust was left in all the territory of Egypt.
І Господь змінив сильний вітер на західний, і підняв сарану, і кинув її в Червоне море, і не залишилося жодної сарани в усій Єгипетській землі.
But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the sons of Israel go.
Та Господь зробив непоступливим серце фараона, і синів Ізраїля той не відпустив.
Darkness over the Land
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even a darkness which may be felt.”
Тоді Господь сказав Мойсеєві: Простягни руку до неба, і нехай настане темрява в Єгипетській землі — відчутна темрява.
So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.
І Мойсей простягнув руку до неба, — і три дні була темрява: чорні хмари й буря на всій Єгипетській землі.
They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings.
І три дні ніхто не бачив свого брата, і ніхто не вставав зі свого ліжка. А всі сини Ізраїля повсюди, де б вони не перебували, мали світло.
Then Pharaoh called to Moses, and said, “Go, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be detained. Even your little ones may go with you.”
І фараон закликав Мойсея та Аарона, і каже: Ідіть, поклоніться Господу, Богові вашому! Тільки овець і худобу залишіть. А ваше майно нехай іде з вами.
But Moses said, “You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice them to the LORD our God.
Та Мойсей сказав: Але ти нам маєш дати тварин на жертви і всепалення, котрі принесемо Господу, Богові нашому.
“Therefore, our livestock too shall go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we shall take some of them to serve the LORD our God. And until we arrive there, we ourselves do not know with what we shall serve the LORD.”
І наша худоба піде з нами, — тож не залишимо й копита. Адже з них візьмемо для служіння Господу, Богові нашому. Ми ж не знаємо, яким чином будемо поклонятися Господу, Богові нашому, перш ніж прийдемо туди.
But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he was not willing to let them go.
Та непоступливим зробив Господь серце фараона, і той не забажав їх відпустити.
Then Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me! Beware, do not see my face again, for in the day you see my face you shall die!”
І каже фараон: Іди від мене! Стережися! Щоб ти більше не намагався побачити моє обличчя, бо в той день, коли з’явишся переді мною, — помреш!
