Коли зло́дій буде зло́влений в підко́пі, і буде побитий так, що помре, то нема прови́ни крови на тому, хто побив.
“If the thief is caught while breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there will be no bloodguiltiness on his account.
Але як засвітило сонце над ним, то є на ньо́му прови́на крови. Злодій конче відшкодує, а якщо він нічого не має, то буде про́даний за свою краді́жку.
“But if the sun has risen on him, there will be bloodguiltiness on his account. He shall surely make restitution; if he owns nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
Якщо та крадіжка справді буде зна́йдена в руці його живою, від вола аж до осла, до ягняти, то нехай відшкодує удвоє.
“If what he stole is actually found alive in his possession, whether an ox or a donkey or a sheep, he shall pay double.
Коли хто ви́пасе поле або виноградинка, і пустить свою худобу й буде випаса́ти на чужому полі, відшкодує найліпшим із поля свого й найліпшим із свого виноградника.
“If a man lets a field or vineyard be grazed bare and lets his animal loose so that it grazes in another man’s field, he shall make restitution from the best of his own field and the best of his own vineyard.
Коли вийде огонь і попаде на тернину, і буде спалена скирта, або збіжжя стояче, або поле, — конче відшкодує той, хто запалив пожежу.
“If a fire breaks out and spreads to thorn bushes, so that stacked grain or the standing grain or the field itself is consumed, he who started the fire shall surely make restitution.
Коли хто дасть своє́му ближньому срібло або по́суд на збере́ження, а воно буде вкра́дене з дому того чоловіка, — якщо буде зна́йдений злодій, нехай відшкодує вдвоє.
“If a man gives his neighbor money or goods to keep for him and it is stolen from the man’s house, if the thief is caught, he shall pay double.
Якщо ж злодій не буде зна́йдений, то власник дому буде приведений до суддів, на присягу, що не простягав своєї руки на працю свого ближнього.
“If the thief is not caught, then the owner of the house shall appear before the judges, to determine whether he laid his hands on his neighbor’s property.
У кожній справі провини, — про вола, про осла, про овечку, про одіж, про все згублене, про яке хто скаже, що це його, нехай справа обох при́йде до судді. Кого суддя визнає за винного, той відшкодує вдвоє своєму ближньому.
“For every breach of trust, whether it is for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any lost thing about which one says, ‘This is it,’ the case of both parties shall come before the judges; he whom the judges condemn shall pay double to his neighbor.
Коли хто дасть своєму ближньому на збере́ження осла, або вола, або овечку, чи яку іншу худобину, а вона згине, або буде скалічена, або буде заграбована, і ніхто того не бачив, —
“If a man gives his neighbor a donkey, an ox, a sheep, or any animal to keep for him, and it dies or is hurt or is driven away while no one is looking,
прися́га Господня нехай буде між обома, що він не простяг своєї руки на власність свого ближнього, а власник її нехай забере, а позваний не буде відшкодо́вувати.
an oath before the LORD shall be made by the two of them that he has not laid hands on his neighbor’s property; and its owner shall accept it, and he shall not make restitution.
А якщо справді буде вкрадена від нього, то нехай відшкодує власнико́ві її.
“But if it is actually stolen from him, he shall make restitution to its owner.
Якщо дійсно буде розша́рпана вона, нехай принесе її як свідо́цтво, а за розша́рпане він не відшкодує.
“If it is all torn to pieces, let him bring it as evidence; he shall not make restitution for what has been torn to pieces.
А коли хто позичить від свого ближнього худобину, а вона буде скалічена або згине, а власник її не був із нею, то конче відшкодує;
“If a man borrows anything from his neighbor, and it is injured or dies while its owner is not with it, he shall make full restitution.
якщо ж її власник був із нею, не відшкодує. А якщо худобина була найнята, то піде та шкода в заплату її.
“If its owner is with it, he shall not make restitution; if it is hired, it came for its hire.
А коли хто підмо́вить дівчину, яка не зару́чена, і ляже з нею, то нехай дасть їй ві́но, і візьме її собі за жінку.
Sundry Laws
“If a man seduces a virgin who is not engaged, and lies with her, he must pay a dowry for her to be his wife.
Якщо батько її справді відмовить віддати її йому, — нехай відважить срібла згідно з віном дівочим.
“If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money equal to the dowry for virgins.
Чарівни́ці не зоставиш при житті.
“You shall not allow a sorceress to live.
Кожен, хто зляжеться з худобиною, конче буде забитий.
“Whoever lies with an animal shall surely be put to death.
Кожен, хто прино́сить жертву богам, крім Бога Одного, підпадає закляттю.
“He who sacrifices to any god, other than to the LORD alone, shall be utterly destroyed.
А прихо́дька не будеш утискати та гноби́ти його, бо й ви були прихо́дьками в єгипетськім кра́ї.
“You shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Жодної вдови та сироти не будеш гноби́ти;
“You shall not afflict any widow or orphan.
якщо ж ти справді гноби́тимеш їх, то коли вони, кли́чучи, кли́катимуть до Мене, то конче почую їхній зойк,
“If you afflict him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry;
і розпалиться гнів Мій, і повбиваю вас мечем, і стануть жінки́ ваші вдо́вами, а діти ваші си́ротами.
and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.
Якщо позичиш гроші народові Моєму, бідному, що з тобою, то не будь йому, як суворий позича́льник, — не покладеш на нього лихви.
“If you lend money to My people, to the poor among you, you are not to act as a creditor to him; you shall not charge him interest.
Якщо дійсно ві́зьмеш у заста́ву одежу ближнього свого, то вернеш її йому до за́ходу сонця,
“If you ever take your neighbor’s cloak as a pledge, you are to return it to him before the sun sets,
бо вона — єдине накриття́ його, вона одіж на тіло його; на чому він буде лежати? І станеться, коли буде він кликати до Мене, то почую, бо Я милосердний.
for that is his only covering; it is his cloak for his body. What else shall he sleep in? And it shall come about that when he cries out to Me, I will hear him, for I am gracious.
Бога не будеш лихосло́вити, а начальника в народі твоїм не будеш проклинати.
“You shall not curse God, nor curse a ruler of your people.
Не будеш спізнюватися, щодо жертов, із щедрістю збіжжя та з пли́нами твоїми. Перворідного з синів своїх даси́ Мені.
“You shall not delay the offering from your harvest and your vintage. The firstborn of your sons you shall give to Me.
Так зробиш волові своєму, і дрібній худобі своїй: сім день буде вона з своєю матір'ю, а восьмого дня даси її Мені.
