Хай устану й нехай я пройду́ся по місті, хай на ву́лицях та на майда́нах того пошукаю, кого полюбила душа моя! Шукала його, — та його не знайшла́.
“The watchmen who make the rounds in the city found me,
And I said, ‘Have you seen him whom my soul loves?’

Спітка́ли мене сторожі́, що по місті прохо́дять. „Чи не бачили ча́сом того, кого полюбила душа моя?“

Небагато пройшла я від них, — та й знайшла́ я того́, кого́ полю́била душа моя: схопи́ла його, — й не пустила його, аж по́ки його не ввела́ у дім неньки своєї, та в кімна́ту тієї, що в утро́бі носила мене!

Заклинаю я вас, дочки єрусалимські, газе́лями чи польови́ми оленями, щоб ви не споло́хали, щоб не збуди́ли любови, аж доки йому до вподо́би!“
Solomon’s Wedding Day
“What is this coming up from the wilderness
Like columns of smoke,
Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,
With all scented powders of the merchant?
„Хто вона, що вихо́дить із пустині, немов стовпи диму, оку́рена ми́ррою й ла́даном, всіля́кими па́хощами продавця?“
“Behold, it is the traveling couch of Solomon;
Sixty mighty men around it,
Of the mighty men of Israel.

„Ось ло́же його, Соломонове, — шістдесят лицарів навколо нього, із лицарів славних Ізраїлевих!
“All of them are wielders of the sword,
Expert in war;
Each man has his sword at his side,
Guarding against the terrors of the night.

Усі вони мають меча, усі вправні в бою́, кожен має свого меча при своєму стегні́ проти стра́ху нічно́го.
“King Solomon has made for himself a sedan chair

Но́ші зробив собі цар Соломон із лива́нських дере́в:
“He made its posts of silver,
Its back of gold
And its seat of purple fabric,
With its interior lovingly fitted out

стовпці їхні зробив він із срі́бла, а їхне опертя́ — золоте, пурпуро́ве сиді́ння, їхня сере́дина ви́стелена коха́нням дочо́к єрусалимських!

With which his mother has crowned him
On the day of his wedding,
