Ой, коли б на пустині нічлі́г подорожніх я мав, тоді б я покинув наро́да свого, і пішов би від них, бо вони перелю́бники всі, збори зра́дників!

A wayfarers’ lodging place;

And go from them!
For all of them are adulterers,
An assembly of treacherous men.

Вони напина́ють свого язика́, немов лука свого́, для неправди, міцні́ють вони на землі не для правди, бо від злого до злого ідуть і не знають Мене, говорить Господь!

Один о́дного остеріга́йтесь, і не поклада́йтесь на жодного брата, — кожен бо брат обмани́ти — обма́нить, і при́ятель кожен — обмо́вник!
“Let everyone be on guard against his neighbor,

And every neighbor goes about as a slanderer.

Один о́дного зво́дить, і правди не кажуть, привчи́ли свого язика́ говорити неправду, пому́чилися, лихо чинячи!

They weary themselves committing iniquity.

Серед ома́ни твоє прожива́ння, через ома́ну не хочуть пізнати Мене, говорить Госпо́дь.
“Your dwelling is in the midst of deceit;
Through deceit they refuse to know Me,” declares the LORD.

Тому так промовляв Господь Савао́т: Ось Я їх перето́плюю та випробо́вую їх, бо що маю вчинити Я ради дочки́ Свого люду?
Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts,
“Behold, I will refine them and assay them;
For what else can I do, because of the daughter of My people?

Їхній язик — смертоно́сна стріла́, він ома́ну говорить: уста́ми своїми говорить із ближнім про мир, а в нутрі своє́му кладе свою за́сідку.
“Their tongue is a deadly arrow;
It speaks deceit;
With his mouth one speaks peace to his neighbor,
But inwardly he sets an ambush for him.

Чи ж за це Я їх не покараю? говорить Господь. Хіба ж над наро́дом, як цей, непомсти́ться душа Моя?
“Shall I not punish them for these things?” declares the LORD.

Я плач та рида́ння здійму́ над оцими гора́ми, і спів жало́бний — понад степови́ми лугами, вони бо попа́лені так, що ними не ходить ніхто, і ре́ву худоби не чути: від птаства небесного й аж до худоби розбі́глося все, відійшло́!
“For the mountains I will take up a weeping and wailing,
And for the pastures of the wilderness a dirge,
Because they are laid waste so that no one passes through,
And the lowing of the cattle is not heard;
Both the birds of the sky and the beasts have fled; they are gone.

І Я Єрусалим на руїни відда́м, на мешка́ння шакалів, а юдські міста́ на спусто́шення дам, — і не буде мешка́нця у них!
“I will make Jerusalem a heap of ruins,
A haunt of jackals;
And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.”

Хто муж мудрий, який зрозумів би оце, і до кого Господні уста́ промовляли, щоб вияснить те, за що згинув цей край, за що спа́лений він, як пустиня, і що не́ю не ходить ніхто?
Who is the wise man that may understand this? And who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land ruined, laid waste like a desert, so that no one passes through?
А Господь відказав: За те, що вони поки́нули Зако́на Мого, що Я дав перед ними, і не слухалися Мого голосу, і не ходили за ним, за Зако́ном,
The LORD said, “Because they have forsaken My law which I set before them, and have not obeyed My voice nor walked according to it,
а ходили за впе́ртістю серця свого й за Ваа́лами, що навчи́ли про них їхні батьки́.
but have walked after the stubbornness of their heart and after the Baals, as their fathers taught them,”
Тому так промовляє Господь Саваот, Бог Ізраїлів: Ось Я їх, цей наро́д, полино́м нагодую й водою отру́йною їх напою́!
therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, “behold, I will feed them, this people, with wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink.
І розпоро́шу Я їх серед наро́дів, яких ні вони, ні батьки їхні не знали, і пошлю Я за ними меча́, аж поки не ви́гублю їх!
“I will scatter them among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them until I have annihilated them.”
Так говорить Господь Савао́т: Розгля́ньтеся та голосі́льниць покличте, і нехай вони при́йдуть, і пошліте до мудрих жіно́к, — і вони поприхо́дять!

“Consider and call for the mourning women, that they may come;
And send for the wailing women, that they may come!

І хай поспішають, і хай спів жало́би над ними піді́ймуть, — і хай наші очі зайду́ться сльозо́ю, а з наших пові́ків вода хай тече́!
“Let them make haste and take up a wailing for us,
That our eyes may shed tears
And our eyelids flow with water.

Бо почується голос жало́бного співу з Сіону: „Як ми попусто́шені, як посоро́млені дуже! Бо ми поки́нули свій край, бо покинули місце свого пробува́ння“.
“For a voice of wailing is heard from Zion,
‘How are we ruined!
We are put to great shame,
For we have left the land,
Because they have cast down our dwellings.’”

Тож почуйте, жінки́, слово Господа, і хай ваше ухо візьме́ слово уст Його, і навчі́ть дочок ваших жало́бного співу, й одна о́дну — жало́бної пісні!

Бо смерть увійшла в наші ві́кна, до наших пала́т увійшла́, щоб ви́різати дітей з вулиці, із площ — юнакі́в.
For death has come up through our windows;
It has entered our palaces
To cut off the children from the streets,
The young men from the town squares.

Кажи так: Говорить Господь: І напа́дає лю́дського трупа, мов гно́ю на полі, і мов тих снопів за женце́м, і не буде кому позбира́ти!
Speak, “Thus says the LORD,
‘The corpses of men will fall like dung on the open field,
And like the sheaf after the reaper,
But no one will gather them.’”

Так говорить Господь: Хай не хва́литься мудрий своєю премудрістю, і хай не хвалиться ли́цар своєю хоро́брістю, багатий багатством своїм хай не хвалиться!
Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;
Бо хто буде хвали́тись, хай хва́литься тільки оцим: що він розуміє та знає Мене, що Я — то Господь, Який на землі чинить ми́лість, правосу́ддя та правду, бо в цьо́му Моє уподо́бання, каже Господь!
but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.
Ось дні наступають, — говорить Господь, — і Я навіщу́ всіх обрі́заних та необрі́заних,
“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “that I will punish all who are circumcised and yet uncircumcised —
Єгипет та Юду, й Едома та Аммонових синів, і Моава та всіх, хто воло́сся довко́ла стриже́, хто сидить на пустині, бо всі оці люди — пообрі́зані, а ввесь дім Ізраїлів — необрізаносе́рдий!
