When the sun came up God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah’s head so that he became faint and begged with all his soul to die, saying, “Death is better to me than life.”

And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

And it happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”

And as the sun grew hot, God arranged for a scorching east wind to blow on Jonah. The sun beat down on his head until he grew faint and wished to die. “Death is certainly better than living like this!” he exclaimed.

Когда же взошло солнце, навёл Бог знойный восточный ветер, и солнце стало палить голову Ионы, так что он изнемог и просил себе смерти, и сказал: лучше мне умереть, нежели жить.

І сталося, як сонце зійшло, то призна́чив Бог схі́днього гарячого вітра, — і вдарило сонце на Йо́нину го́лову, — і він зомлів. І він жадав, щоб йому померти, і казав: „Краще мені смерть від мого́ життя!“

Когда солнце взошло, Бог наслал знойный восточный ветер, и солнце стало жечь голову Ионы так, что он изнемог. Он захотел умереть и сказал:
— Лучше мне умереть, чем жить. -
І сталося, що як тільки зійшло сонце, то Бог наказав спекотливому вітру, що палить, і сонце уразило голову Йони. І він ослабів, і відрікався свого духу, кажучи: Краще мені померти, ніж жити!
