King James Bible

  • The Prophet Acknowledges

    Woe is me! For I am
    Like the fruit pickers, like the grape gatherers.
    There is not a cluster of grapes to eat,
    Or a first-ripe fig which I crave.
  • Israel's Great Misery

    Woe is me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grapegleanings of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat: my soul desired the firstripe fruit.
  • The godly person has perished from the land,
    And there is no upright person among men.
    All of them lie in wait for bloodshed;
    Each of them hunts the other with a net.
  • The good man is perished out of the earth: and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.
  • Concerning evil, both hands do it well.
    The prince asks, also the judge, for a bribe,
    And a great man speaks the desire of his soul;
    So they weave it together.
  • That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up.
  • The best of them is like a briar,
    The most upright like a thorn hedge.
    The day when you post your watchmen,
    Your punishment will come.
    Then their confusion will occur.
  • The best of them is as a brier: the most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen and thy visitation cometh; now shall be their perplexity.
  • Do not trust in a neighbor;
    Do not have confidence in a friend.
    From her who lies in your bosom
    Guard your lips.
  • Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.
  • For son treats father contemptuously,
    Daughter rises up against her mother,
    Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
    A man’s enemies are the men of his own household.
  • For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

  • God Is the Source of Salvation and Light

    But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the LORD;
    I will wait for the God of my salvation.
    My God will hear me.
  • Israel Looks to the Lord

    Therefore I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.
  • Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy.
    Though I fall I will rise;
    Though I dwell in darkness, the LORD is a light for me.
  • Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.
  • I will bear the indignation of the LORD
    Because I have sinned against Him,
    Until He pleads my case and executes justice for me.
    He will bring me out to the light,
    And I will see His righteousness.
  • I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.
  • Then my enemy will see,
    And shame will cover her who said to me,
    “Where is the LORD your God?”
    My eyes will look on her;
    At that time she will be trampled down
    Like mire of the streets.
  • Then she that is mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her which said unto me, Where is the LORD thy God? mine eyes shall behold her: now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.
  • It will be a day for building your walls.
    On that day will your boundary be extended.
  • In the day that thy walls are to be built, in that day shall the decree be far removed.
  • It will be a day when they will come to you
    From Assyria and the cities of Egypt,
    From Egypt even to the Euphrates,
    Even from sea to sea and mountain to mountain.
  • In that day also he shall come even to thee from Assyria, and from the fortified cities, and from the fortress even to the river, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain.
  • And the earth will become desolate because of her inhabitants,
    On account of the fruit of their deeds.
  • Notwithstanding the land shall be desolate because of them that dwell therein, for the fruit of their doings.
  • Shepherd Your people with Your scepter,
    The flock of Your possession
    Which dwells by itself in the woodland,
    In the midst of a fruitful field.
    Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead
    As in the days of old.
  • God's Compassion on Israel

    Feed thy people with thy rod, the flock of thine heritage, which dwell solitarily in the wood, in the midst of Carmel: let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.
  • “As in the days when you came out from the land of Egypt,
    I will show you miracles.”
  • According to the days of thy coming out of the land of Egypt will I shew unto him marvellous things.
  • Nations will see and be ashamed
    Of all their might.
    They will put their hand on their mouth,
    Their ears will be deaf.
  • The nations shall see and be confounded at all their might: they shall lay their hand upon their mouth, their ears shall be deaf.
  • They will lick the dust like a serpent,
    Like reptiles of the earth.
    They will come trembling out of their fortresses;
    To the LORD our God they will come in dread
    And they will be afraid before You.
  • They shall lick the dust like a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth: they shall be afraid of the LORD our God, and shall fear because of thee.
  • Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity
    And passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession?
    He does not retain His anger forever,
    Because He delights in unchanging love.
  • Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
  • He will again have compassion on us;
    He will tread our iniquities under foot.
    Yes, You will cast all their sins
    Into the depths of the sea.
  • He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
  • You will give truth to Jacob
    And unchanging love to Abraham,
    Which You swore to our forefathers
    From the days of old.
  • Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.
