  • Arrangement of the Camps

    Now the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
  • The Tribes and Leaders by Armies

    And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:
  • “The sons of Israel shall camp, each by his own standard, with the banners of their fathers’ households; they shall camp around the tent of meeting at a distance.
  • “Everyone of the children of Israel shall camp by his own [a]standard, beside the emblems of his father’s house; they shall camp some distance from the tabernacle of meeting.
  • “Now those who camp on the east side toward the sunrise shall be of the standard of the camp of Judah, by their armies, and the leader of the sons of Judah: Nahshon the son of Amminadab,
  • On the east side, toward the rising of the sun, those of the standard of the forces with Judah shall camp according to their armies; and Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be the leader of the children of Judah.”
  • and his army, even their numbered men, 74,600.
  • And his army was numbered at seventy-four thousand six hundred.
  • “Those who camp next to him shall be the tribe of Issachar, and the leader of the sons of Issachar: Nethanel the son of Zuar,
  • “Those who camp next to him shall be the tribe of Issachar, and Nethanel the son of Zuar shall be the leader of the children of Issachar.”
  • and his army, even their numbered men, 54,400.
  • And his army was numbered at fifty-four thousand four hundred.

  • “The total of the numbered men of the camp of Judah: 186,400, by their armies. They shall set out first.
  • “All who were numbered according to their armies of the forces with Judah, one hundred and eighty-six thousand four hundred — these shall [b]break camp first.
  • “On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben by their armies, and the leader of the sons of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur,
  • “On the south side shall be the standard of the forces with Reuben according to their armies, and the leader of the children of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur.”
  • and his army, even their numbered men, 46,500.

  • “Those who camp next to him shall be the tribe of Simeon, and the leader of the sons of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai,
  • “Those who camp next to him shall be the tribe of Simeon, and the leader of the children of Simeon shall be Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.”
  • and his army, even their numbered men, 59,300.

  • “Then comes the tribe of Gad, and the leader of the sons of Gad: Eliasaph the son of Deuel,
  • “Then comes the tribe of Gad, and the leader of the children of Gad shall be Eliasaph the son of [c]Reuel.”

  • And his army was numbered at forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.
  • “The total of the numbered men of the camp of Reuben: 151,450 by their armies. And they shall set out second.
  • “All who were numbered according to their armies of the forces with Reuben, one hundred and fifty-one thousand four hundred and fifty — they shall [d]be the second to break camp.
  • “Then the tent of meeting shall set out with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camps; just as they camp, so they shall set out, every man in his place by their standards.
  • “And the tabernacle of meeting shall move out with the [e]camp of the Levites in the middle of the [f]camps; as they camp, so they shall move out, everyone in his place, by their [g]standards.
  • “On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim by their armies, and the leader of the sons of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud,
  • “On the west side shall be the standard of the forces with Ephraim according to their armies, and the leader of the children of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud.”
  • and his army, even their numbered men, 40,500.
  • And his army was numbered at forty thousand five hundred.
  • “Next to him shall be the tribe of Manasseh, and the leader of the sons of Manasseh: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur,
  • “Next to him comes the tribe of Manasseh, and the leader of the children of Manasseh shall be Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.”
  • and his army, even their numbered men, 32,200.
  • And his army was numbered at thirty-two thousand two hundred.
  • “Then comes the tribe of Benjamin, and the leader of the sons of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gideoni,
  • “Then comes the tribe of Benjamin, and the leader of the children of Benjamin shall be Abidan the son of Gideoni.”
  • and his army, even their numbered men, 35,400.
  • And his army was numbered at thirty-five thousand four hundred.
  • “The total of the numbered men of the camp of Ephraim: 108,100, by their armies. And they shall set out third.
  • “All who were numbered according to their armies of the forces with Ephraim, one hundred and eight thousand one hundred — they shall [h]be the third to break camp.
  • “On the north side shall be the standard of the camp of Dan by their armies, and the leader of the sons of Dan: Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai,
  • “The [i]standard of the forces with Dan shall be on the north side according to their armies, and the leader of the children of Dan shall be Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.”
  • and his army, even their numbered men, 62,700.
  • And his army was numbered at sixty-two thousand seven hundred.
  • “Those who camp next to him shall be the tribe of Asher, and the leader of the sons of Asher: Pagiel the son of Ochran,
  • “Those who camp next to him shall be the tribe of Asher, and the leader of the children of Asher shall be Pagiel the son of Ocran.”
  • and his army, even their numbered men, 41,500.
  • And his army was numbered at forty-one thousand five hundred.
  • “Then comes the tribe of Naphtali, and the leader of the sons of Naphtali: Ahira the son of Enan,
  • “Then comes the tribe of Naphtali, and the leader of the children of Naphtali shall be Ahira the son of Enan.”
  • and his army, even their numbered men, 53,400.
  • And his army was numbered at fifty-three thousand four hundred.
  • “The total of the numbered men of the camp of Dan was 157,600. They shall set out last by their standards.”
  • “All who were numbered of the forces with Dan, one hundred and fifty-seven thousand six hundred — they shall [j]break camp last, with their [k]standards.”
  • These are the numbered men of the sons of Israel by their fathers’ households; the total of the numbered men of the camps by their armies, 603,550.
  • These are the ones who were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses. All who were numbered according to their armies of the forces were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.
  • The Levites, however, were not numbered among the sons of Israel, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
  • But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel, just as the Lord commanded Moses.
  • Thus the sons of Israel did; according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so they camped by their standards, and so they set out, every one by his family according to his father’s household.
  • Thus the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses; so they camped by their [l]standards and so they broke camp, each one by his family, according to their fathers’ houses.
