Parable of the Marriage Feast
Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying,
Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying,
І знову Ісус почав розповідати людям притчі. Він казав:
“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.
«Царство Боже подібне до царя, який справляв весілля свого сина.
“And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come.
Він послав слуг, щоб вони покликали запрошених, але ті не хотіли приходити.
“Again he sent out other slaves saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast.”’
Він знову послав слуг сказати усім запрошеним: „Слухайте! Все вже приготовано для весілля, бичків та іншу худобу вже забито, і страви вже на столі. Приходьте на весілля!”
“But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own farm, another to his business,
Але ніхто на те не звернув уваги, і всі розійшлися — один повернувся до роботи в полі, другий до інших справ.
and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them.
Всі інші, котрі були запрошені, схопили царських слуг, познущалися з них, а потім убили.
“But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire.
Тоді цар розгнівався й послав своє військо, і покарав убивць, а їхнє місто спалив.
“Then he said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
І сказав цар своїм слугам: „Усе готове для весілля, але ті, хто були запрошені, не гідні бути на ньому.
‘Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.’
Отже, вийдіть на вулиці й на кожному куті запрошуйте кого побачите”.
“Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall was filled with dinner guests.
Тоді слуги пішли й запросили всіх, кого побачили: як добрих, так і лихих людей. Весільна зала була повна гостей.
“But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes,
Але коли цар увійшов і подивився на гостей, то побачив серед них чоловіка в простому вбранні. Цар звернувся до нього: „Друже, як же ти увійшов сюди, не вбравшись у весільне?” Але той мовчав.
and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless.
“Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Тоді цар наказав своїм слугам: „Зв’яжіть йому руки й ноги та й киньте у темряву, де тільки ридання і скрегіт зубів від болю.
Tribute to Caesar
Then the Pharisees went and plotted together how they might trap Him in what He said.
Тоді фарисеї пішли й почали радитись між собою, як би зловити Ісуса на слові.
And they sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any.
Вони послали до Ісуса своїх учнів разом з іродіанцями, які мовили таке до Нього: «Вчителю, ми знаємо, що Ти — чоловік чесний, правдиво наставляєш на шлях Божий, і не зважаєш на те, хто і що про Тебе подумає, бо не дивишся на чин та звання людей.
“Tell us then, what do You think? Is it lawful to give a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?”
Тож скажи нам, як ти вважаєш, чи справедливо сплачувати податки цезареві, чи ні?»
But Jesus perceived their malice, and said, “Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?
Їхні підступні наміри були відомі Ісусові, тож Він на те відповів: «Лицеміри! Навіщо ви перевіряєте Мене, аби зловити Мене на слові?
“Show Me the coin used for the poll-tax.” And they brought Him a denarius.
Покажіть Мені динар, яким ви сплачуєте податки». Коли вони принесли динар,
And He said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?”
Ісус запитав: «Хто тут зображений й чиє ім’я викарбоване на монеті?»
They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” Then He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.”
Вони відповіли: «Цезареве». Тоді Ісус і каже: «Тож віддайте цезарю — цезареве, а Богу — Боже».
And hearing this, they were amazed, and leaving Him, they went away.
Почувши таку відповідь, вивідники були вражені й, залишивши Ісуса, пішли собі геть.
Jesus Answers the Sadducees
On that day some Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection) came to Jesus and questioned Him,
Того ж дня декілька саддукеїв (вони стверджують, буцімто ніякого воскресіння з мертвих не буде взагалі) прийшли до Ісуса й спитали Його:
asking, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘IF A MAN DIES HAVING NO CHILDREN, HIS BROTHER AS NEXT OF KIN SHALL MARRY HIS WIFE, AND RAISE UP CHILDREN FOR HIS BROTHER.’
«Вчителю, Мойсей заповів нам: „Якщо чоловік помре бездітний, то його брат мусить взяти шлюб з жінкою померлого і народити з нею дітей, аби продовжити рід свого брата”. [66]
“Now there were seven brothers with us; and the first married and died, and having no children left his wife to his brother;
От було собі семеро братів. Перший одружився і скоро помер, та через те, що в нього не було дітей, другий брат узяв шлюб із тією жінкою.
so also the second, and the third, down to the seventh.
Те ж саме трапилося й з третім, а потім і з усіма сімома — вони померли, не залишивши дітей.
“In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had married her.”
Отже, в майбутньому житті, після воскресіння, чиєю дружиною вона буде, адже всі семеро мали шлюб з тією жінкою?»
But Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God.
Ісус сказав: «Звісно, причиною вашої помилки є те, що ви не знаєте ні Святого Писання, ані сили Божої.
“For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Адже, коли люди повстануть із мертвих, вони не одружуватимуться, ані заміж виходитимуть. Вони будуть подібні до Ангелів Небесних.
“But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God:
А щодо воскресіння з мертвих, то хіба ви не читали Божих слів, сказаних вам? Господь сказав:
‘I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”
„Я — Бог Авраама, Бог Ісаака і Бог Якова. Господь є Богом живих а не мертвих. Тож усі вони — живі”».
When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.
Коли люди почули це, то були вражені Його наукою.
But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together.
Почувши, як Ісус Своєю відповіддю примусив замовкнути саддукеїв, фарисеї зібралися разом.
One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him,
Один із них, знавець Закону Мойсея запитав, випробовуючи Ісуса:
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”
«Вчителю, яка заповідь Закону є найважливішою?»
And He said to him, “ ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’
Ісус відповів: «„Люби Господа Бога свого всім серцем, усією душею і розумом своїм”.
“The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’
Є ще й друга заповідь, подібна до цієї: „Любіть ближнього [67] свого, як себе самого”.
“On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”
Увесь Закон і вчення пророків спираються на ці дві заповіді».
Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question:
Тоді Ісус звернувся до всіх фарисеїв, які зібралися там:
“What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?” They said to Him, “The son of David.”
«Що ви думаєте про Христа? Чий Він Син?» Вони відповіли: «Давидів Син».
He said to them, “Then how does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying,
Ісус сказав: «Як же тоді Давид, якого надихнув Дух Святий, назвав Його Господом, коли казав:
‘THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD,
“SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,
UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES BENEATH YOUR FEET”’?
“SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND,
UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIES BENEATH YOUR FEET”’?
„Господь Бог мовив до Господа мого: „Сядь по праву руку від Мене, доки не покладу Я ворогів Твоїх до ніг Твоїх [68]””.
“If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?”
Тобто сам Давид називав Христа „Господом”. То як же Він може бути Сином Давидовим?»
