Judas’s Remorse
Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus to put Him to death;

and they bound Him, and led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate the governor.

Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
Тоді Юда, який Його видав, побачивши, що Він засуджений, розкаявся і повернув тридцять срібних монет первосвященикам і старшим,
saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? See to that yourself!”
кажучи: Я згрішив, видавши невинну кров. Вони ж сказали: А що нам до того? Сам дивися.
And he threw the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.

The chief priests took the pieces of silver and said, “It is not lawful to put them into the temple treasury, since it is the price of blood.”
А первосвященики, узявши срібняки, сказали: Не годиться класти їх до скарбниці, бо це ціна крові.
And they conferred together and with the money bought the Potter’s Field as a burial place for strangers.
Порадившись, вони купили на них гончарське поле, щоб хоронити там чужинців.
For this reason that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.
Тому те поле досі зветься Полем крові.
Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “AND THEY TOOK THE THIRTY PIECES OF SILVER, THE PRICE OF THE ONE WHOSE PRICE HAD BEEN SET by the sons of Israel;
Тоді сповнилося сказане через пророка Єремію, який говорив: І взяли вони тридцять срібняків — вартість Оціненого, — Того, Кого оцінили сини Ізраїля,
AND THEY GAVE THEM FOR THE POTTER’S FIELD, AS THE LORD DIRECTED ME.”
і дали їх за гончарське поле, як наказав мені Господь.
Jesus before Pilate
Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And Jesus said to him, “It is as you say.”
Ісус же став перед правителем. Правитель запитав Його: Чи ти юдейський Цар? Ісус відповів: Ти кажеш!
And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He did not answer.
Коли первосвященики і старші Його звинувачували, Він нічого не відповідав.
Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?”
Тоді Пилат каже Йому: Хіба не чуєш, скільки проти Тебе свідчать?
And He did not answer him with regard to even a single charge, so the governor was quite amazed.
Але Він не відповідав йому на жодне слово, так що правитель дуже дивувався.
Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release for the people any one prisoner whom they wanted.
На кожне свято правитель мав звичай відпускати народові одного в’язня, якого бажали.
At that time they were holding a notorious prisoner, called Barabbas.
Був же тоді відомий в’язень, якого звали Вараввою.
So when the people gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Whom do you want me to release for you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
Коли вони зібралися, Пилат сказав їм: Кого хочете, щоб я відпустив вам, Ісуса Варавву чи Ісуса, Котрий зветься Христос?
For he knew that because of envy they had handed Him over.
Адже знав, що через заздрощі видали Його.
While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him a message, saying, “Have nothing to do with that righteous Man; for last night I suffered greatly in a dream because of Him.”
Коли ж він сидів на судилищі, послала до нього його дружина сказати: Не май нічого до Того Праведника, бо я багато натерпілася нині вві сні через Нього!
But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to put Jesus to death.
А первосвященики й старші підмовили людей, аби просити за Варавву, а Ісуса щоб убити.
But the governor said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release for you?” And they said, “Barabbas.”
Правитель озвався і сказав їм: Кого з двох хочете, щоб я відпустив вам? Вони сказали: Варавву.
Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Crucify Him!”
Пилат їм відповів: А що я маю зробити з Ісусом, Який зветься Христос? Усі закричали: Нехай буде розп’ятий!
And he said, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they kept shouting all the more, saying, “Crucify Him!”
Він же сказав: А який злочин Він скоїв? Та вони ще дужче кричали: Нехай буде розп’ятий!
When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this Man’s blood; see to that yourselves.”
Побачивши, що нічого не вдіє, а заколот дедалі посилюється, Пилат узяв воду, вмив руки перед народом і сказав: Невинний я в крові Цього Праведника! Дивіться самі!
And all the people said, “His blood shall be on us and on our children!”
У відповідь весь народ закричав: Кров Його на нас і на наших дітях!
Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
Тоді відпустив їм Варавву, а Ісуса після бичування видав на розп’яття.
Jesus Is Mocked
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman cohort around Him.
Тоді воїни правителя, взявши Ісуса до преторію [1] , зібрали через Нього весь підрозділ.
They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him.
І, роздягнувши Його, накинули на Нього багряницю
And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
та, сплівши вінок з тернини, поклали Йому на голову, а тростину дали в праву руку і, упавши на коліна перед Ним, глузували з Нього, кажучи: Радій, Царю юдейський!
They spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head.
І плювали на Нього та, взявши тростину, били Його по голові.
After they had mocked Him, they took the scarlet robe off Him and put His own garments back on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.
А коли наглузувалися з Нього, стягли з Нього багряницю, надягли на Нього Його одяг і повели на розп’яття.
As they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon, whom they pressed into service to bear His cross.
Виходячи, зустріли чоловіка з Киринеї на ім’я Симон, якого примусили нести Його хрест.
The Crucifixion
And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means Place of a Skull,
Коли прийшли на місце, яке зветься Голгофа, що в перекладі означає Череповище,
they gave Him wine to drink mixed with gall; and after tasting it, He was unwilling to drink.
дали Йому випити вина, змішаного з жовчю, але Він, покуштувавши, не схотів пити.
And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves by casting lots.
А ті, які розіп’яли Його, кидаючи жереб, поділили Його одяг
And above His head they put up the charge against Him which read, “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Над Його головою прибили напис Його провини: Це Ісус — Цар юдейський.
At that time two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left.
Тоді розіп’яли з Ним двох розбійників: одного — праворуч, другого — ліворуч.
And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads
А ті, хто проходив повз Нього, лихословили Його, похитуючи своїми головами
and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”
і кажучи: Ти, Котрий руйнуєш храм і за три дні відбудовуєш, спаси Себе Самого! Якщо Ти є Син Божий, то зійди з хреста!
In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying,
Так само й первосвященики з книжниками та старшими, глузуючи, говорили:
“He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him.
Інших спасав, а Себе Самого не може спасти?! Він, Цар ізраїльський, нехай зійде тепер з хреста — і повіримо в Нього.
“HE TRUSTS IN GOD; LET GOD RESCUE Him now, IF HE DELIGHTS IN HIM; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”
Він покладав надію на Бога; нехай тепер Його визволить, якщо хоче, бо Він сказав: Я — Божий Син!
The robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words.
Так само і розбійники, розп’яті з Ним, насміхалися з Нього.
Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour.
Від шостої години по всій землі тривала темрява — аж до дев’ятої години.
About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” that is, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?”
А о дев’ятій годині Ісус скрикнув гучним голосом, кажучи: Елі, Елі, лема савахтані? Тобто: Боже Мій, Боже Мій, чому Ти Мене покинув?
And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, began saying, “This man is calling for Elijah.”
Деякі з тих, які там стояли, почувши це, говорили, що Він кличе Іллю [2].
Immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink.
І зараз же один із них, підбігши, взяв губку, наповнив її оцтом, настромив на очеретину і дав Йому пити.
But the rest of them said, “Let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him.”
Інші ж казали: Облиш, подивимося, чи прийде Ілля Його спасати.
And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
Ісус же, знову голосно скрикнувши, віддав духа.
And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.
І ось завіса храму роздерлася надвоє — згори додолу; земля затряслася, скелі порозпадалися,
The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;
гроби повідкривалися, багато тіл померлих святих устали
and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.
і, вийшовши з гробів після Його воскресіння, ввійшли до святого міста і явилися багатьом.
Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!”
А сотник і ті, які з ним стерегли Ісуса, побачивши землетрус і те, що сталося, дуже злякалися й говорили: Справді, Він був Божий Син!
Many women were there looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee while ministering to Him.
Було ж там багато жінок, які дивилися здалека; вони йшли за Ісусом з Галилеї, прислуговуючи Йому.
Among them was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
Поміж ними була Марія Магдалина, Марія — мати Якова та Йосифа, мати Зеведеєвих синів.
Jesus Is Buried
When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus.
Коли настав вечір, прийшов заможний чоловік з Ариматеї на ім’я Йосиф, який і сам був учнем Ісуса;
This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him.
він прийшов до Пилата й попросив тіло Ісуса. Після чого Пилат наказав дати.
And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
Взявши тіло, Йосиф обгорнув Його чистим полотном
and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.
і поклав Його до своєї нової гробниці, яку висік у скелі, та, прикотивши до отвору гробниці великий камінь, відійшов.
And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the grave.
Була ж там Марія Магдалина і друга Марія, які сиділи напроти гробу.
Now on the next day, the day after the preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered together with Pilate,
Наступного дня, що після п’ятниці [3] , зібралися первосвященики та фарисеї до Пилата
and said, “Sir, we remember that when He was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I am to rise again.’
і кажуть: Пане, ми пригадали, що той обманщик сказав ще за життя: Через три дні Я воскресну!
“Therefore, give orders for the grave to be made secure until the third day, otherwise His disciples may come and steal Him away and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”
Тож накажи стерегти гробницю до третього дня, щоби часом Його учні, прийшовши вночі, не викрали Його та не сказали народові: Він воскрес із мертвих! — бо буде цей останній обман гірший від першого.
Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go, make it as secure as you know how.”
Пилат сказав їм: Маєте варту, ідіть і забезпечте, як знаєте.
