The Transfiguration
And Jesus was saying to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”

Ісус промовив до них: Запевняю вас: деякі з тих, які стоять отут, не зазнають смерті, доки не побачать Боже Царство, що прийшло в могутності.
Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them;
А через шість днів Ісус бере Петра, Якова та Івана і виводить тільки їх самих на високу гору. І Він преобразився перед ними.
and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
Одяг Його став блискучим і таким білосніжним, що жодний білильник на землі не зміг би так вибілити.
Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
І з’явився їм Ілля з Мойсеєм, які розмовляли з Ісусом.
Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
І озвався Петро, і сказав Ісусові: Учителю, добре нам тут бути. Зробімо три намети: один Тобі, один Мойсеєві та один Іллі!
For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified.
Однак він не знав, що говорив, — так вони були налякані.
Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!”
І з’явилася хмара, яка оповила їх, і пролунав голос із хмари: Це Син Мій Улюблений, Його слухайте!
All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.
І враз, озирнувшись навколо, не побачили біля себе вже нікого, крім одного Ісуса.
As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead.
А коли вони сходили з гори, Він наказав їм, щоб нікому не розповідали про те, що бачили, доки Син Людський не воскресне з мертвих.
They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant.
І вони зберегли те слово для себе, допитуючись: Що то значить — з мертвих воскреснути?
They asked Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
І запитували Його, мовлячи: Чому книжники кажуть, що спершу потрібно прийти Іллі?
And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?
Він же пояснив їм: Ілля прийде раніше і приготує все. Тож написано про Сина Людського, що Він має багато постраждати і бути зневаженим.
“But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.”
Та кажу вам, що Ілля прийшов, але зробили з ним те, що хотіли, як написано про нього.
All Things Possible
When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them.
Повернувшись до учнів, вони побачили безліч людей довкола них та книжників, які сперечалися з ними.
Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed and began running up to greet Him.
Як тільки ці люди побачили Його, зніяковіли і, підбігши, привітали Його.
And He asked them, “What are you discussing with them?”
А Він запитав їх: Про що сперечаєтеся між собою?
And one of the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute;
І відповів Йому один із натовпу: Учителю, я привів до Тебе свого сина, який має німого духа.
and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and stiffens out. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it.”
Як тільки де схопить його, то кидає ним, і він піну пускає, скрегоче зубами, ціпеніє. Просив я Твоїх учнів, щоб вигнали його, але вони не змогли!
And He answered them and said, “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!”
А Він у відповідь каже їм: О роде невірний, доки Я буду між вами? Доки Я буду терпіти вас? Приведіть його до Мене!
They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth.
І його привели до Нього. Дух, побачивши Його, відразу затряс хлопцем. Упавши на землю, той качався, пускаючи піну.
And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.
Ісус запитав його батька: Скільки часу, як це сталося з ним? Той відповів: З дитинства.
“It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”
Часто кидає його у вогонь і воду, щоби погубити його. Якщо можеш, допоможи нам, змилосердься над нами!
And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”
А Ісус сказав йому: Щодо «якщо можеш», то все можливе віруючому!
Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”
Тут батько дитини, скрикнувши, [зі сльозами] вигукнув: Вірю! Допоможи моєму невірству!
When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again.”
Зауваживши, що збігається натовп, погрозив нечистому духові, кажучи йому: Духу німий і глухий, Я тобі наказую: вийди з нього і більше не входь у нього!
After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, “He is dead!”
Закричавши, дух сильно затряс ним і вийшов, а хлопець став як мертвий, так що деякі говорили, що він помер.
But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.
А Ісус узяв його за руку, підвів його, і той устав.
When He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, “Why could we not drive it out?”
Коли Він зайшов у дім, учні наодинці стали запитувати Його: Чому ми не змогли його вигнати?
And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.”
А Він сказав їм: Це поріддя нічим не можна вигнати, хіба що молитвою [і постом].
Death and Resurrection Foretold
From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it.
Вийшовши звідти, вони пішли через Галилею. Та Ісус не бажав, щоби хтось довідався.
For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”
Він навчав Своїх учнів і говорив їм, що Син Людський буде виданий у руки людей, і вб’ють Його, і, будучи вбитий, Він через три дні воскресне.
But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.
Вони не розуміли цих слів, але боялися Його запитати.
They came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
Прибули вони в Капернаум. А коли Він був у домі, то запитав їх: Що це дорогою ви обговорювали?
But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.
Вони ж мовчали, бо сперечалися один з одним дорогою, хто з них більший.
Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
Сівши, Він покликав дванадцятьох і каже їм: Якщо хто хоче бути першим, нехай буде між усіма найменший і всім слугою.
Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them,
І, взявши дитину, Він поставив її посеред них, обійняв і сказав їм:
“Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”
Якщо хто ось таку одну дитину прийме в Моє Ім’я, той Мене приймає, а хто Мене приймає, той не Мене приймає, але Того, Хто Мене послав.
Dire Warnings
John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.”
Іван Йому відповів: Учителю, ми бачили одного, [який не ходить з нами], котрий Твоїм Ім’ям виганяв бісів; і ми заборонили йому, бо він не ходить з нами.
But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me.
А Ісус сказав: Не забороняйте йому. Бо немає такого, хто зробив би чудо в Моє Ім’я і зміг би відразу Мене лихословити;
“For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.
І коли хто напоїть вас чашкою води в [Моє] Ім’я, — адже ви Христові, — то правду кажу вам, що не втратить він своєї нагороди.
“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.
А коли хто спокусить одного із цих малих, які вірять у Мене, то краще йому було би прив’язати жорновий камінь на свою шию і кинутися в море.
“If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire,
І якщо тебе спокушає твоя рука, відрубай її; краще тобі калікою ввійти до життя, ніж, маючи обидві руки, потрапити до геєни [1] , у невгасимий вогонь,
[where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.]
[де черв’як не гине, і вогонь не гасне].
“If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame, than, having your two feet, to be cast into hell,
І якщо твоя нога спокушає тебе, відрубай її; краще тобі ввійти до життя кульгавим, аніж з обома ногами бути вкиненим до геєни,
[where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.]
[у вогонь невгасимий, де черв’як не гине, і вогонь не гасне].
“If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be cast into hell,
І якщо твоє око спокушає тебе, вибери його; краще тобі з одним оком увійти до Божого Царства, ніж, маючи двоє очей, бути вкиненим у геєну,
where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.
де їхній черв’як не гине, і вогонь не гасне.
“For everyone will be salted with fire.
Бо кожний вогнем буде посолений, [і всяка жертва посолиться сіллю].
