Darby Bible Translation

  • The Seventy Sent Out

Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come.
  • Jesus Sends Out the Seventy-Two

Now after these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place where he himself was about to come.
  • And He was saying to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.
  • And he said to them, The harvest indeed [is] great, but the workmen few; supplicate therefore the Lord of the harvest that he may send out workmen into his harvest.
  • “Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.
  • Go: behold *I* send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves.
  • “Carry no money belt, no bag, no shoes; and greet no one on the way.
  • Carry neither purse nor scrip nor sandals, and salute no one on the way.
  • “Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’
  • And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace to this house.
  • “If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.
  • And if a son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it; but if not it shall turn to you again.
  • “Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they give you; for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house.
  • And in the same house abide, eating and drinking such things as they have; for the workman is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house.
  • “Whatever city you enter and they receive you, eat what is set before you;
  • And into whatsoever city ye may enter and they receive you, eat what is set before you,
  • and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’
  • and heal the sick in it, and say to them, The kingdom of God is come nigh to you.
  • “But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say,
  • But into whatsoever city ye may have entered and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say,
  • ‘Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’
  • Even the dust of your city, which cleaves to us on the feet, do we shake off against you; but know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh.
  • “I say to you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.
  • I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for Sodom in that day than for that city.
  • “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had been performed in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
  • Woe to the Unrepentant

Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee, Bethsaida! for if the works of power which have taken place in you had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they had long ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
  • “But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.
  • But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you.
  • “And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will be brought down to Hades!
  • And *thou*, Capernaum, who hast been raised up to heaven, shalt be brought down even to hades.
  • “The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me; and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”
  • He that hears you hears me; and he that rejects you rejects me; and he that rejects me rejects him that sent me.

  • The Happy Results

The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
  • The Seventy-Two Return with Joy

And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us through thy name.
  • And He said to them, “I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning.
  • And he said to them, I beheld Satan as lightning falling out of heaven.
  • “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.
  • Behold, I give you the power of treading upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall in anywise injure you.
  • “Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.”
  • Yet in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subjected to you, but rejoice that your names are written in the heavens.
  • At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight.
  • Jesus' Prayer of Thanksgiving

In the same hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I praise thee, Father, Lord of the heaven and of the earth, that thou hast hid these things from wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes: yea, Father, for thus has it been well-pleasing in thy sight.
  • “All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
  • All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is but the Father, and who the Father is but the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son is pleased to reveal [him].
  • Turning to the disciples, He said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see,
  • And having turned to the disciples privately he said, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see.
  • for I say to you, that many prophets and kings wished to see the things which you see, and did not see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and did not hear them.
  • For I say to you that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things which ye behold, and did not see [them]; and to hear the things which ye hear, and did not hear [them].
  • And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”
  • The Parable of the Good Samaritan

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up tempting him, and saying, Teacher, having done what, shall I inherit life eternal?
  • And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”
  • And he said to him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
  • And he answered, “YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.”
  • But he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thine understanding; and thy neighbour as thyself.
  • And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE.”
  • And he said to him, Thou hast answered right: this do and thou shalt live.
  • But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
  • But he, desirous of justifying himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

  • The Good Samaritan

Jesus replied and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and they stripped him and beat him, and went away leaving him half dead.
  • And Jesus replying said, A certain man descended from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into [the hands of] robbers, who also, having stripped him and inflicted wounds, went away leaving him in a half-dead state.
  • “And by chance a priest was going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
  • And a certain priest happened to go down that way, and seeing him, passed on on the opposite side;
  • “Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.
  • and in like manner also a Levite, being at the spot, came and looked [at him] and passed on on the opposite side.
  • “But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion,
  • But a certain Samaritan journeying came to him, and seeing [him], was moved with compassion,
  • and came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them; and he put him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn and took care of him.
  • and came up [to him] and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine; and having put him on his own beast, took him to [the] inn and took care of him.
  • “On the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I return I will repay you.’
  • And on the morrow [as he left], taking out two denarii he gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, Take care of him, and whatsoever thou shalt expend more, *I* will render to thee on my coming back.
  • “Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?
  • Which [now] of these three seems to thee to have been neighbour of him who fell into [the hands of] the robbers?
  • And he said, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do the same.”
  • And he said, He that shewed him mercy. And Jesus said to him, Go, and do *thou* likewise.

  • Martha and Mary

Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.
  • Martha and Mary

And it came to pass as they went that *he* entered into a certain village; and a certain woman, Martha by name, received him into her house.
  • She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word.
  • And she had a sister called Mary, who also, having sat down at the feet of Jesus was listening to his word.
  • But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.”
  • Now Martha was distracted with much serving, and coming up she said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Speak to her therefore that she may help me.
  • But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;
  • But Jesus answering said to her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things;
  • but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
  • but there is need of one, and Mary has chosen the good part, the which shall not be taken from her.
