And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing.
І послав їх проповідувати Царство Боже та вздоровляти недужих.
And He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics apiece.
І промовив до них: „Не беріть нічо́го в дорогу: ані па́лиці, ані торби, ні хліба, ні срі́бла, ані майте по двоє убра́нь.
“Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that city.
І в який дім уві́йдете, — зоставайтеся там, і звідти відходьте.
“And as for those who do not receive you, as you go out from that city, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”
А як хто вас не при́йме, то, вихо́дячи з міста того, обтрусіть від ніг ваших по́рох на сві́дчення су́проти них“.
Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.
І вийшли вони, та й ходили по селах, звіщаючи Добру Нови́ну та всюди вздоровля́ючи.
Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was happening; and he was greatly perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead,
А І́род тетра́рх прочув усе, що сталось було, і вагався, бо дехто казали, що Іван це із мертвих устав,
and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen again.
а інші, що Ілля́ то з'явився, а знов інші, що ожив це один із стародавніх пророків.
Herod said, “I myself had John beheaded; but who is this man about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see Him.
Тоді Ірод сказав: „Іванові стяв я голову; хто ж Оцей, що я чую про Нього речі такі?“ І він намагався побачити Його.
When the apostles returned, they gave an account to Him of all that they had done. Taking them with Him, He withdrew by Himself to a city called Bethsaida.
А коли повернулись апо́столи, вони розповіли Йому, що́ зробили. І Він їх узяв, та й пішов самото́ю на місце безлюдне, біля міста, що зветься Віфсаі́да.
But the crowds were aware of this and followed Him; and welcoming them, He began speaking to them about the kingdom of God and curing those who had need of healing.
А як люди дові́далися, то пішли вслід за Ним. І Він їх прийняв, і розповідав їм про Боже Царство, та тих уздоровля́в, хто потребува́в уздоро́влення.
Five Thousand Fed
Now the day was ending, and the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the crowd away, that they may go into the surrounding villages and countryside and find lodging and get something to eat; for here we are in a desolate place.”
А день став схилятися. І Двана́дцятеро підійшли та й сказали Йому: „Відпусти вже людей, — нехай вони йдуть у довко́лишні села й оселі спочити й здобути поживи, бо ми тут у місці безлю́дному!“
But He said to them, “You give them something to eat!” And they said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless perhaps we go and buy food for all these people.”
А Він їм сказав: „Дайте їсти їм ви“. Вони ж відказали: „Немає в нас більше, як п'я́теро хліба й дві рибі. Хіба пі́демо та купимо поживи для всього наро́ду цього́“.
(For there were about five thousand men.) And He said to His disciples, “Have them sit down to eat in groups of about fifty each.”
Бо було чоловіків десь тисяч із п'ять. І сказав Він до у́чнів Своїх: „Розсадіть їх рядами — по п'ятидесяти́“.
Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed them, and broke them, and kept giving them to the disciples to set before the people.
I Він узяв п'ять хлібі́в та дві рибі, споглянув на небо, поблагословив їх, і поламав, і дав учням, щоб клали наро́дові.
And they all ate and were satisfied; and the broken pieces which they had left over were picked up, twelve baskets full.
І всі їли й наси́тились! А з кусків позосталих зібрали дванадцять коші́в.
And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, “Who do the people say that I am?”
І сталось, як насамоті Він молився, з Ним учні були́. І спитав Він їх, кажучи: „За кого Мене люди вважають?“
They answered and said, “John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen again.”
Вони ж відповіли́ та сказали: „За Івана Христителя, а ті за Іллю́, а інші, — що воскрес один із давніх пророків“.
And He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.”
А Він запитав їх: „А ви за кого Мене маєте?“ Петро ж відповів та сказав: „За Христа Божого!“
But He warned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone,
Він же їм заказав, і звелів не казати ніко́му про це.
saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised up on the third day.”
І сказав Він: „Синові Лю́дському треба багато страждати, і Його відцураються старші, і первосвященики, і книжники, і буде Він убитий, — але третього дня Він воскресне!“
And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
А до всіх Він промовив: „Коли хоче хто йти вслід за Мною, хай зрече́ться само́го себе, і хай ві́зьме щоденно свого́ хреста, та й за Мною йде.
“For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.
Бо хто хоче душу свою́ зберегти, той погубить її, а хто ради Мене згубить душу свою́, той її збереже́.
“For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?
Яка ж ко́ристь люди́ні, що здобу́де ввесь світ, але́ занапа́стить чи згубить себе?
“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
Бо хто буде Мене та Моєї науки соро́митися, того посоро́миться також Син Лю́дський, як при́йде у славі Своїй, і Отчій, і святих анголі́в.
“But I say to you truthfully, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”
Правдиво ж кажу́ вам, що деякі з тут-о прия́вних не скуштують смерти, аж поки не побачать Царства Божого“.
The Transfiguration
Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray.
І сталось після оцих слів днів за вісім, узяв Він Петра, і Івана, і Якова, та й пішов помолитись на го́ру.
And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming.
І коли Він молився, то вигляд лиця Його переобрази́вся, а одежа Його стала біла й блиску́ча.
And behold, two men were talking with Him; and they were Moses and Elijah,
І ось два му́жі з Ним розмовляли, — були то Мойсей та Ілля́,
who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
що з'явилися в славі, і говорили про кінець Його, який в Єрусалимі Він мав докінчи́ти.
Now Peter and his companions had been overcome with sleep; but when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men standing with Him.
А Петро та прия́вні з ним були змо́рені сном, але, пробуди́вшись, бачили славу Його й обох му́жів, що стояли при Ньому.
And as these were leaving Him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah” — not realizing what he was saying.
І сталось, як із Ним розлучались вони, то промовив Петро до Ісуса: „Учителю, добре нам бути отут! Поставмо ж отут три шатра: для Тебе одне, і Мойсею одне, і одне для Іллі!“ Він не знав, що говорить...
While he was saying this, a cloud formed and began to overshadow them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
А як він говорив це, насу́нула хмара та їх заслони́ла. І вони полякались, як стали ті вхо́дити в хмару.
Then a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, My Chosen One; listen to Him!”
І почувся ось голос із хмари, який промовляв: „Це Син Мій Улю́блений, — Його слухайтеся!“
And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent, and reported to no one in those days any of the things which they had seen.
А коли оцей голос лунав, Ісус Сам позостався. А вони промовча́ли, і ніко́му нічо́го тих днів не казали, що́ бачили.
On the next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met Him.
А наступного дня, як спустились з гори, перестрів Його на́товп великий.
And a man from the crowd shouted, saying, “Teacher, I beg You to look at my son, for he is my only boy,
І закричав ось один чоловік із наро́ду й сказав: Учителю, благаю Тебе, — зглянься над сином моїм, бо одина́к він у мене!
and a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly screams, and it throws him into a convulsion with foaming at the mouth; and only with difficulty does it leave him, mauling him as it leaves.
А ото дух хапає його, і він нагло кричить, і трясе ним, аж той пі́ну пускає. І, вимучивши він його, насилу відхо́дить.
“I begged Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not.”
І у́чнів Твоїх я благав його вигнати, та вони не змогли“.
And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.”
А Ісус відповів і промовив: „О, роде невірний й розбе́щений, — доки бу́ду Я з вами, і терпітиму вас? Приведи́ свого сина сюди!“
While he was still approaching, the demon slammed him to the ground and threw him into a convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy and gave him back to his father.
А як той іще йшов, де́мон кинув його та затряс. Та Ісус заказав тому духу нечистому, — і вздоро́вив дитину, і віддав її батькові її.
And they were all amazed at the greatness of God.
But while everyone was marveling at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples,

І всі дивувалися ве́личі Божій!
Ісус удруге заповідає Свою смерть
А як усі дивувались усьо́му, що чинив був Ісус, Він промовив до у́чнів Своїх:

“Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.”
„Вкладіть до вух своїх ці ось слова: Людський Син буде виданий людям до рук“.
But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.
Проте́ не зрозуміли вони цього слова, було бо закрите від них, щоб його не збагнули, та боялись Його запита́ти про це слово.
The Test of Greatness
An argument started among them as to which of them might be the greatest.
І прийшло їм на думку: хто б найбільший з них був?
But Jesus, knowing what they were thinking in their heart, took a child and stood him by His side,
А Ісус, думку серця їх знавши, узяв дитину, і поставив її біля Себе.
and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for the one who is least among all of you, this is the one who is great.”
І промовив до них: „Як хто при́йме дитину оцю в Ім'я́ Моє, Мене він приймає, а як хто Мене при́йме, приймає Того, Хто послав Мене. Хто бо найменший між вами всіма́, — той великий!“
John answered and said, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name; and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow along with us.”
А Іван відповів і сказав: „Учителю, ми бачили одно́го чоловіка, що Ім'я́м Твоїм де́монів виганяв, і ми заборонили йому, бо він з нами не ходить“.
But Jesus said to him, “Do not hinder him; for he who is not against you is for you.”
Ісус же йому́ відказав: „Не забороняйте, — бо хто не проти вас, той за вас!“
When the days were approaching for His ascension, He was determined to go to Jerusalem;
І сталось, коли дні вознесіння Його наближались, Він постановив піти в Єрусалим.
and He sent messengers on ahead of Him, and they went and entered a village of the Samaritans to make arrangements for Him.
І Він посланців вислав перед Собою. І пішли вони, та й прибули́ до села самарянського, щоб ночі́влю Йому пригото́вити.
But they did not receive Him, because He was traveling toward Jerusalem.
А ті не прийняли Його, бо йшов Він у на́прямі Єрусалиму.
When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”
Як побачили ж те учні Яків й Іван, то сказали: „Господи, — хочеш, то ми скажемо, „щоб огонь зійшов з неба та винищив“ їх, як і Ілля був зробив“.
But He turned and rebuked them, [and said, “You do not know what kind of spirit you are of;
А Він оберну́вся до них, їм докорив та й сказав: „Ви не знаєте, якого ви духа.
for the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.”] And they went on to another village.
Бо Син Лю́дський прийшов не губи́ть душі лю́дські, а спасати!“ І пішли вони в інше село.
Exacting Discipleship
As they were going along the road, someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go.”
І сталось, як дорогою йшли, сказав був до Нього один: „Я піду́ за Тобою, хоч би куди Ти пішов“.
And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
Ісус же йому́ відказав: „Мають но́ри лисиці, а гні́зда — небесні пташки́, — Син же Лю́дський не має ніде́ й голови прихили́ти!“
And He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”
I промовив до другого Він: „Іди за Мною“. А той відказав: „Дозволь мені перше піти, і батька свого́ похова́ти“.
But He said to him, “Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.”
Він же йому відказав: „Зостав мертвим ховати мерці́в своїх. А ти йди та звіщай Царство Боже“.
Another also said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first permit me to say good-bye to those at home.”
А інший сказав був: „Господи, я піду́ за Тобою, та дозволь мені перш попрощатись із своїми дома́шніми“.
