The Deity of Jesus Christ
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
На початку було Слово, і Слово було в Бога, і Слово було Бог.
All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
Усе через Нього постало, і без Нього не постало нічого з того, що постало.
In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.
У Ньому було життя, — і життя було Світлом людей.
The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
І Світло світить у темряві, і темрява Його не огорнула.
The Witness John
There came a man sent from God, whose name was John.
З’явився чоловік, посланий від Бога; ім’я йому Іван.
He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.
Він прийшов, аби свідчити, свідчити про Світло, щоб усі повірили через нього.
He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.
Не був він Світлом, а прийшов засвідчити про Світло.
There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.

He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.

He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,
А тим, які прийняли Його, дав владу стати Божими дітьми, — тим, які вірять у Його Ім’я.
who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
Вони не народилися ні від крові, ні через тілесне бажання, ні через бажання чоловіка, але народилися від Бога.
The Word Made Flesh
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
І Слово стало тілом, і перебувало між нами, і ми побачили славу Його, — славу як Єдинородного від Отця, повного благодаті й істини.
John testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’”
Іван свідчить про Нього і закликає, промовляючи: Він Той, про Кого я говорив, що Він іде за мною, та Він був переді мною, оскільки був раніше від мене!
For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.
Адже з Його повноти ми всі одержували благодать за благодаттю,
For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.
оскільки Закон був даний через Мойсея, а благодать та істина з’явилися через Ісуса Христа.
No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.

The Testimony of John
This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent to him priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
І це свідчення Івана, коли юдеї з Єрусалима послали до нього священиків і левітів, щоб вони запитали його: Хто ти?
And he confessed and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
І він визнав, не відмовився, а визнав: Я — не Христос [1].
They asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”
І запитали його: То хто ж ти? Ти Ілля? І він відповів: Ні! — Ти пророк? І він відповів: Ні!
Then they said to him, “Who are you, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
Вони ж сказали йому: То хто ж ти такий? Щоб ми дали відповідь тим, які послали нас, що ти сам про себе скажеш?
He said, “I am A VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, ‘MAKE STRAIGHT THE WAY OF THE LORD,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”
Він відповів: Я — голос того, хто кличе в пустелі: Рівняйте дорогу Господу! — як сказав пророк Ісая.
They asked him, and said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
Тож вони запитали його і сказали йому: Чому ти хрестиш, коли ти не Христос, не Ілля і не пророк?
John answered them saying, “I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.
Іван у відповідь їм сказав: Я хрещу водою, але серед вас стоїть Той, Кого ви не знаєте,
“It is He who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.”
Який іде за мною, [але був ще до мене], — я Йому не гідний розв’язати ремінця на взутті!
These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
Це сталося у Витанії, на другому боці Йордану, де Іван хрестив.
The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
Наступного дня він бачить Ісуса, Який іде до нього, і каже: Ось Агнець Божий, що на Себе бере гріх світу!
“This is He on behalf of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’
Це Той, про Кого я казав, що за мною іде Чоловік, Який був ще до мене, бо Він був раніше від мене.
“I did not recognize Him, but so that He might be manifested to Israel, I came baptizing in water.”
Я не знав Його, але я прийшов хрестити у воді, щоб Він з’явився Ізраїлеві!
John testified saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.
І засвідчив Іван, промовляючи: Бачив я, що Дух сходив, мов голуб, із неба, і залишився на Ньому.
“I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’
Я не знав Його, але Той, Хто послав мене хрестити водою, сказав мені: Над Ким побачиш Духа, Який сходить і перебуває над Ним, — Він Той, Хто хрестить Духом Святим.
“I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”
І я побачив, і засвідчив, що Він — Божий Син.
Jesus’ Public Ministry, First Converts
Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples,
Наступного дня Іван знову стояв з двома своїми учнями.
and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”
Побачивши Ісуса, Який ішов, він промовив: Ось Агнець Божий!
The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
І коли він говорив, почули це обидва його учні й пішли за Ісусом.
And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?”
А Ісус, обернувшись і побачивши, що вони йдуть за Ним, каже їм: Що ви шукаєте? Вони ж сказали йому: Равві, — що в перекладі означає Вчитель, — де Ти живеш?
He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.
Він каже їм: Ходіть і подивитеся! Вони прийшли й побачили, де Він перебував, і залишилися в Нього того дня. Було це близько десятої години [3].
One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
Андрій, брат Симона-Петра, був одним із двох, які почули це від Івана і які пішли за Ним.
He found first his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ).
Він спочатку розшукав свого брата Симона, та й каже йому: Ми знайшли Месію, що в перекладі означає Христос.
He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).
І він привів його до Ісуса. Ісус же, поглянувши на нього, сказав: Ти — Симон, син [Йони]; ти будеш називатися Кифа, що в перекладі означає Петро [4].
The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow Me.”
Наступного дня забажав Він піти в Галилею; знайшов там Ісус Филипа, та й каже йому: Іди за Мною!
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.
Филип же був з Витсаїди, з міста Андрія і Петра.
Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote — Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
Филип знаходить Натанаїла, та й каже йому: Ми знайшли Того, про Кого писали Мойсей у Законі й пророки, — Ісуса з Назарета, сина Йосифа!
Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
А Натанаїл сказав йому: Чи може бути щось доброго з Назарета? Каже йому Филип: Іди — і подивися.
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”
Побачив Ісус Натанаїла, який ішов до Нього, і каже про нього: Ось справжній ізраїльтянин, в якому немає підступу!
Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
Каже Йому Натанаїл: Звідки мене знаєш? А Ісус у відповідь йому сказав: Ще до того, як закликав тебе Филип, Я бачив тебе, як ти був під смоківницею.
Nathanael answered Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.”
Відповів Натанаїл [і сказав] Йому: Равві, Ти — Син Божий, Ти — Цар Ізраїлю!
Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”
Ісус у відповідь сказав йому: Ти повірив, бо Я сказав тобі, що бачив тебе під смоківницею? Ще більше від цього побачиш!
And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
І Він сказав йому: Знову й знову запевняю [5] вас: [відтепер] побачите відкрите небо й Божих ангелів, які піднімаються і опускаються над Людським Сином!
