Five Thousand Fed
After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (or Tiberias).
After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (or Tiberias).
Після цього Ісус пішов на другий бік Тиверіадського моря Галилеї.
A large crowd followed Him, because they saw the signs which He was performing on those who were sick.
І за Ним ішов великий натовп, оскільки бачили чудеса, які Він здійснював над хворими.
Then Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat down with His disciples.
Ісус вийшов на гору й сидів там зі Своїми учнями.
Therefore Jesus, lifting up His eyes and seeing that a large crowd was coming to Him, said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these may eat?”
Тоді Ісус, піднявши очі, побачив, що великий натовп іде до Нього, і каже Филипові: За що купимо хліба, щоб вони поїли?
This He was saying to test him, for He Himself knew what He was intending to do.
Він говорив це, випробовуючи його, бо Сам знав, що мав робити.
Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, for everyone to receive a little.”
Відповів йому Филип: На двісті динаріїв [1] хліба буде недостатньо, щоб кожний хоч трохи одержав.
One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him,
Каже Ісусові один із Його учнів, Андрій, брат Симона-Петра:
“There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these for so many people?”
Тут є [один] хлопець, який має п’ять ячмінних хлібів та дві риби, але що це на таку кількість?
Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
Промовив Ісус: Розсадіть людей! Було тут багато трави. Тож посідали люди, числом тисяч зо п’ять.
Jesus then took the loaves, and having given thanks, He distributed to those who were seated; likewise also of the fish as much as they wanted.
Ісус узяв хліби і, віддавши хвалу, подав [учням; учні ж] — тим, які посідали; також і рибу, скільки бажали.
When they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the leftover fragments so that nothing will be lost.”
Коли наїлися, Він сказав Своїм учням: Зберіть залишені куски, щоб нічого не пропало.
So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.
Зібрали й наповнили дванадцять кошиків шматками з п’ятьох ячмінних хлібів, що залишилися після тих, які їли.
Therefore when the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”
Тоді люди, побачивши чудо, яке [Ісус] учинив, говорили, що Він є справжній Пророк, Який має прийти у світ.
Jesus Walks on the Water
So Jesus, perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone.
А Ісус, знаючи, що вони мають намір прийти, взяти й проголосити Його Царем, відійшов знову Сам на гору.
Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,
З настанням вечора Його учні спустилися до моря,
and after getting into a boat, they started to cross the sea to Capernaum. It had already become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.
увійшли в човен і попливли на другий бік моря, до Капернаума. Уже стемніло, а Ісус ще не приходив до них;
The sea began to be stirred up because a strong wind was blowing.
море розхвилювалося, бо подув сильний вітер.
Then, when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were frightened.
Коли вони пропливли десь двадцять п’ять чи тридцять стадій [2] , то побачили, що Ісус іде по морю й наближається до човна, — і налякалися.
So they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
Вони хотіли взяти Його до човна, а тим часом човен пристав до берега, куди вони прямували.
The next day the crowd that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other small boat there, except one, and that Jesus had not entered with His disciples into the boat, but that His disciples had gone away alone.
Наступного дня юрба, яка перебувала на другому боці моря, побачила, що іншого човна там не було, крім [того] одного, [до якого ввійшли Його учні], і що Ісус не входив до човна зі Своїми учнями, а відпливли лише самі Його учні.
There came other small boats from Tiberias near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.
Тим часом з Тиверіади припливли інші човни поблизу того місця, де їли хліб після того, як Господь віддав хвалу.
So when the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they themselves got into the small boats, and came to Capernaum seeking Jesus.
Коли люди побачили, що там немає ні Ісуса, ні Його учнів, вони самі посідали у човни й попливли до Капернаума, шукаючи Ісуса.
When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You get here?”
Коли знайшли Його на тому боці моря, сказали Йому: Равві, коли Ти прибув сюди?
Words to the People
Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
У відповідь Ісус сказав їм: Знову й знову запевняю вас: ви шукаєте Мене не тому, що побачили чудеса, але тому, що їли хліб і наситилися.
“Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.”
Не працюйте для поживи, яка гине, але для поживи, яка залишається на вічне життя, яку дасть вам Син Людський, бо Його призначив Бог Отець!
Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?”
Запитали в Нього: Що нам робити, аби чинити Божі діла?
Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”
У відповідь Ісус їм сказав: Боже діло є те, щоб ви повірили в Того, Кого Він послав.
So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform?
Тоді сказали Йому: Яку ознаку Ти зробиш, щоб ми побачили і повірили Тобі? Що Ти зробиш?
“Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘HE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.’”
Наші батьки їли манну в пустелі, згідно з написаним: Хліб з неба дав їм їсти!
Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.
А Ісус їм відказав: Знову й знову запевняю вас: не Мойсей дав вам хліб з неба, але Мій Отець дає вам справжній хліб з неба,
“For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.”
бо хлібом Божим є Той, Хто сходить з неба і дає світові життя.
Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”
Тоді сказали Йому: Господи, давай нам завжди цей хліб!
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.
Сказав їм Ісус: Я — хліб життя! Хто приходить до Мене, — не буде голодувати, і хто вірить у Мене, — ніколи не буде спраглим.
“But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe.
Але Я сказав вам, що ви хоч і побачили Мене, але не вірите.
“All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.
Усе, що дає Мені Отець, прийде до Мене; і того, хто приходить до Мене, Я не вижену геть,
“For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
бо Я зійшов з неба виконувати не Мою волю, а волю Того, Хто Мене послав, — [Отця].
“This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.
А воля Того, Хто Мене послав, — [Отця], — є та, аби все, що Він Мені дав, Я не втратив, але воскресив це останнього дня.
“For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”
Воля Мого Отця є та, щоб кожний, хто бачить Сина й вірить у Нього, мав вічне життя, — і Я воскрешу його останнього дня.
Words to the Jews
Therefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that came down out of heaven.”
Тож нарікали на Нього юдеї, бо Він сказав: Я — хліб, який зійшов з неба, —
They were saying, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say, ‘I have come down out of heaven’?”
і казали: Хіба це не Ісус, син Йосифа, батька й матір Якого ми знаємо? Як же тепер [Він] каже: Я зійшов з неба?
Jesus answered and said to them, “Do not grumble among yourselves.
У відповідь Ісус сказав їм: Не ремствуйте між собою.
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.
Ніхто не може прийти до Мене, коли Отець, Який Мене послав, не притягне його, — і Я воскрешу його останнього дня.
“It is written in the prophets, ‘AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT OF GOD.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me.
Написано в пророків: І всі будуть навчені Богом! Кожний, хто чув Отця і навчився, приходить до Мене.
“Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father.
Не тому, що Отця хтось бачив; хіба лише Той, Хто є від Бога, — Він і бачив Отця.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.
Знову й знову запевняю вас: той, хто вірить [у Мене], має вічне життя.
“Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
Ваші батьки їли манну в пустелі, — і повмирали.
“This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.
Цей же — хліб, який сходить із неба, аби той, хто його їсть, не помер.
“I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.”
Я — хліб живий, який зійшов з неба; якщо хто буде їсти цей хліб, житиме вічно. Хліб, який Я дам, — це Моє тіло, [яке Я віддам] для життя світу!
Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?”
Тоді стали сперечатися між собою юдеї, кажучи: Як це може Він дати нам їсти Своє тіло?
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.
А Ісус сказав їм: Знову й знову запевняю вас: якщо не будете їсти тіла Сина Людського і не будете пити Його крові, не будете мати в собі життя.
“He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
Хто їсть Моє тіло і п’є Мою кров, той має вічне життя, і Я його воскрешу останнього дня.
“For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.
Адже Моє тіло — справжня пожива, а Моя кров — справжній напій.
“He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.
Хто споживає Моє тіло і п’є Мою кров, той перебуває в Мені, і Я в ньому.
“As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me.
Як послав Мене живий Отець, так і Я живу через Отця, — і той, хто буде споживати Мене, житиме через Мене.
“This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever.”
Це є хліб, який зійшов із неба. Не так, як батьки [ваші манну] їли й померли, а хто споживатиме цей хліб, буде жити вічно!
Words to the Disciples
These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.
Так говорив Він, навчаючи в синагозі в Капернаумі.
Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this said, “This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?”
Чимало Його учнів, почувши це, казали: То жорстокі слова! Хто може їх слухати?
But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?
Ісус же, знаючи в Собі, що Його учні нарікають через це, сказав їм: Чи це вас спокушує?
“What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?
А що ж буде, як ви побачите, що Син Людський підіймається туди, де був раніше?
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
Дух оживляє, а тіло ніяк не допомагає. Слова, які Я вам сказав, є дух і життя.
“But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.
Але є деякі з вас, які не вірять! Ісус із самого початку знав, хто є ті, які не вірять, і хто є той, котрий Його зрадить.
And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”
І Він додав: Тому Я сказав вам, що ніхто не може прийти до Мене, якщо йому не було дано від [Мого] Отця.
Peter’s Confession of Faith
As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore.
Від того часу багато хто з Його учнів відійшов геть і вже не ходив з Ним.
So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?”
Тоді Ісус сказав дванадцятьом: Може, і ви хочете відійти?
Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.
А Симон-Петро відповів Йому: Господи, до кого ми підемо? Ти маєш слова вічного життя;
“We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.”
і ми повірили й пізнали, що Ти є Святий — [Син живого] Бога!
Jesus answered them, “Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?”
Відповів їм Ісус: Чи не дванадцятьох вас Я вибрав? Але один з вас є дияволом.
