І обернулися ми та й рушили в пустиню дорогою до Червоного моря, як Господь промовляв був до мене. І кружля́ли ми навколо гори́ Сеїр багато днів.
‘You have circled this mountain long enough. Now turn north,
„До́сить вам кружля́ти навколо цієї гори́, — оберніться на північ!
and command the people, saying, “You will pass through the territory of your brothers the sons of Esau who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful;
А наро́дові наказуй, говорячи: Ви перехо́дите границі ваших братів, Ісавових синів, що мешкають у Сеїрі. І будуть вони боятися вас, та й ви пильно стережіться!
do not provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, even as little as a footstep because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.
Не дражні́ть їх, бо Я не дам вам з їхнього кра́ю місця ані на стопу́ ноги, бо го́ру Сеїр Я дав Ісавові, як спа́дщину.
“You shall buy food from them with money so that you may eat, and you shall also purchase water from them with money so that you may drink.
Їжу купите від них за срібло — і будете їсти, а також воду будете купувати в них за срібло — і будете пити.
“For the LORD your God has blessed you in all that you have done; He has known your wanderings through this great wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing.”’
Бо Господь, Бог твій, поблагослови́в тебе в кожному чині твоєї руки, знає Він ходу́ твою в цій великій пустині. Оце сорок літ Господь, Бог твій, з тобою, — не відчув ти недостачі ні в чо́му“.
“So we passed beyond our brothers the sons of Esau, who live in Seir, away from the Arabah road, away from Elath and from Ezion-geber. And we turned and passed through by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
І перейшли ми від наших братів, Ісавових синів, що сидять у Сеїрі, від дороги сте́пу, від Елату, і від Ецйон-Ґеверу. І обернулися ми, та й перейшли дорогою моавської пустині.
“Then the LORD said to me, ‘Do not harass Moab, nor provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land as a possession, because I have given Ar to the sons of Lot as a possession.’
І сказав Господь мені: „Не ворогу́й з Моавом, і не драту́й їх війною, бо Я не дам тобі з його кра́ю спа́дщини, — бо Лотовим синам дав Я Ар на спа́док“.
(The Emim lived there formerly, a people as great, numerous, and tall as the Anakim.
Перед тим сиділи в ньому еми, народ великий, і числе́нний, і високий, як ве́летні.
Like the Anakim, they are also regarded as Rephaim, but the Moabites call them Emim.
Рефаями вважалися й вони, як ве́летні, а моавітяни кличуть їх: еми.
The Horites formerly lived in Seir, but the sons of Esau dispossessed them and destroyed them from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did to the land of their possession which the LORD gave to them.)
А в Сеїрі перед тим сиділи були гореї, а Ісавові сини заволоділи ними та вигубили їх перед собою, та й осіли замість них, як зробив Ізраїль кра́єві спа́дку свого, що дав їм Господь.
‘Now arise and cross over the brook Zered yourselves.’ So we crossed over the brook Zered.
„Тепер устаньте, і перейдіть поток Зеред“. І перейшли ми поті́к Зеред.
“Now the time that it took for us to come from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the brook Zered was thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war perished from within the camp, as the LORD had sworn to them.
А час, що ходили ми від Кадеш-Барнеа, аж перейшли поті́к Зеред, — тридцять і вісім літ, аж вимерло все те покоління військо́вих із табо́ру, як Господь присягнув був їм.
“Moreover the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from within the camp until they all perished.
Також і Господня рука була на них, щоб вигубити їх із табо́ру аж до решти.
“So it came about when all the men of war had finally perished from among the people,
І сталося, коли вигинули всі військо́ві і вимерли з-посеред наро́ду,
‘Today you shall cross over Ar, the border of Moab.
„Ти сьогодні прохо́диш моавську границю — Ар.
‘When you come opposite the sons of Ammon, do not harass them nor provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the sons of Ammon as a possession, because I have given it to the sons of Lot as a possession.’
І при́йдеш близько до Аммонових синів, — не нена́видь їх і не драту́й їх, бо не дам тобі спа́дку з кра́ю Аммонових синів, бо Лотовим синам Я дав його на спа́дщину“.
(It is also regarded as the land of the Rephaim, for Rephaim formerly lived in it, but the Ammonites call them Zamzummin,
За край рефаїв вважався також він, — рефаї сиділи в ньому перед тим, а аммоні́тяни кликали їх: замзуми,
a people as great, numerous, and tall as the Anakim, but the LORD destroyed them before them. And they dispossessed them and settled in their place,
наро́д великий, і числе́нний, і високий, як ве́летні. І вигубив їх Господь перед ними, і вигнали їх, і осіли замість них,
just as He did for the sons of Esau, who live in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them; they dispossessed them and settled in their place even to this day.
як зробив Він Ісавовим синам, що сидять у Сеїрі, що заволоділи хореянами перед ними, — і вигнали їх, і осіли замість них, і сидя́ть аж до сьогодні.
And the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim who came from Caphtor, destroyed them and lived in their place.)
А аввеїв, що сидять по оселях аж до Ази, вигубили їх кафтори, що вийшли з Кафтору, та й осіли замість них.
‘Arise, set out, and pass through the valley of Arnon. Look! I have given Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land into your hand; begin to take possession and contend with him in battle.
„Уставайте, рушайте, та й перейдіть поті́к Арнон! Ось — Я дав у твою руку Сигона, царя Хешбону, амореянина, а край його зачни забирати, та й воюй з ним.
‘This day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon the peoples everywhere under the heavens, who, when they hear the report of you, will tremble and be in anguish because of you.’
Того дня Я зачну́ наво́дити страх та жах перед тобою на наро́ди під усім небом, які, коли почують чутку про тебе, то затремтя́ть, і жахнуться перед тобою“.
“So I sent messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,
І послав я послів з пустині Кедемот до Сигона, царя хешбонського, з мирними словами, говорячи:
‘Let me pass through your land, I will travel only on the highway; I will not turn aside to the right or to the left.
„Нехай же я перейду́ в твоїм кра́ї в дорозі, — я піду́ дорогою, не збочу ні право́руч, ні ліво́руч.
‘You will sell me food for money so that I may eat, and give me water for money so that I may drink, only let me pass through on foot,
їжу за срібло продаси мені, — і я їстиму, і воду даси мені за срібло, — і я питиму. Нехай тільки перейду́ я ногами,
just as the sons of Esau who live in Seir and the Moabites who live in Ar did for me, until I cross over the Jordan into the land which the LORD our God is giving to us.’
як зробили мені Ісавові сини, що сидять у Сеїрі, і моави, що сидять у в Арі, аж перейду́ я Йорда́н до того кра́ю, що його нам дає Господь, Бог наш“.
“But Sihon king of Heshbon was not willing for us to pass through his land; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, in order to deliver him into your hand, as he is today.
Та не хотів Сигон, цар хешбонський, дати нам перейти через свою землю, бо Господь, Бог твій, зробив запеклим дух його, та ожорсто́чив його серце, щоб дати його в руку твою, як сьогодні це ви́дко.
“The LORD said to me, ‘See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land over to you. Begin to occupy, that you may possess his land.’
І сказав Господь мені: „Ось, Я зачав давати перед тобою Сигона та його край; зачни заволодіва́ти, щоб успадкува́ти його край.“
“Then Sihon with all his people came out to meet us in battle at Jahaz.
І вийшов Сигон навпроти нас, він та ввесь народ його, на війну до Ягацу.
“The LORD our God delivered him over to us, and we defeated him with his sons and all his people.
І дав його нам Господь, Бог наш, і ми побили його й синів його та ввесь його народ.
“So we captured all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed the men, women and children of every city. We left no survivor.
І того ча́су ми здобули́ всі його міста, і зробили закляттям кожне місто, чоловіків і жінок та дітей, нікого не позоставили ми.
“We took only the animals as our booty and the spoil of the cities which we had captured.
Тільки худобу забрали ми собі на здо́бич, та захо́плене в містах, що ми їх здобули́.
“From Aroer which is on the edge of the valley of Arnon and from the city which is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was no city that was too high for us; the LORD our God delivered all over to us.
Від Ароеру, що на березі арнонського пото́ку, і від міста, що в долині, і аж до Ґілеаду не було міста, яке було б сильніше від нас, — усе віддав нам Господь, Бог наш.
“Only you did not go near to the land of the sons of Ammon, all along the river Jabbok and the cities of the hill country, and wherever the LORD our God had commanded us.
Тільки до кра́ю Аммонових синів не набли́зився ти, до всього побережжя потоку Яббоку, і до міст гори, та до всього, про що наказав був Господь, Бог наш.
