The Temporal and Eternal

For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

1

Знаємо бо, коли зе́мний мешка́льний наме́т наш зруйнується, то маємо будівлю від Бога на небі, — дім нерукотво́рний та вічний.

2

For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven,

Тому́ то й зідхаємо, бажаючи приодягти́ся будівлею нашею, що з неба,

3

inasmuch as we, having put it on, will not be found naked.

коли б тільки й одя́гнені ми не знайшлися нагі́!

4

For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life.

Бо ми, знахо́дячися в цьому наметі, зідхаємо під тягаре́м, бо не хочемо роздягти́ся, але одягти́ся, щоб смертне поже́рлось життям.

5

Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge.

5

А Той, Хто на це саме й створив нас, то Бог, що й дав нам завда́ток Духа.

6

Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord —

Отож, бувши відважні постійно, та знаючи, що, мавши дім у тілі, ми не перебуваємо в домі Господньому,

7

for we walk by faith, not by sight —

7

бо хо́димо вірою, а не виді́нням,

8

we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

ми ж відважні, і бажаємо краще покинути дім тіла й мати дім у Господа.

9

Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.

Тому́ ми й пильнуємо, — чи зостаємося в домі тіла, чи вихо́димо з дому, — бути Йому лю́бими.

10

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Бо мусимо всі ми з'явитися перед судо́вим престолом Христовим, щоб кожен прийняв згідно з тим, що́ в тілі робив він, — чи добре, чи лихе́.

11

Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest to God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences.

Отже, відаючи страх Господній, ми людей переконуємо, а Богові явні; але маю надію, що й у ваших сумліннях ми явні.

12

We are not again commending ourselves to you but are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, so that you will have an answer for those who take pride in appearance and not in heart.

Бо не зно́ву себе ми дору́чуємо вам, але даємо вам привід хвали́тися нами, щоб мали ви що проти тих, що хва́ляться обличчям, а не серцем.

13

For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you.

13

Коли бо ми з розуму сходимо, — то Богові, коли ж при здоровому розумі, — то для вас.

14

For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died;

Бо Христова любов спону́кує нас, що ду́мають так, що коли вмер Один за всіх, то всі померли.

15

and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.

15

А вмер Він за всіх, щоб ті, хто живе, не жили вже для себе самих, а для Того, Хто за них був умер і воскрес.

16

Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer.

16

Через те відтепе́р ми ніко́го не знаємо за тілом; коли ж і знали за тілом Христа, то тепер ми не знаємо вже!

17

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

17

Тому́ то, коли хто в Христі, той створі́ння нове́, — стародавнє минуло, ото сталось нове́!

18

Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,

18

Усе ж від Бога, що нас примирив із Собою Ісусом Христом і дав нам служі́ння прими́рення,

19

namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

19

бо Бог у Христі примирив світ із Собою Самим, не зважа́вши на їхні провини, і поклав у нас слово прими́рення.

20

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

20

Оце ми як посли замість Христа, ніби Бог благає через нас, благаємо замість Христа: примиріться з Богом!

21

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

21

Бо Того́, Хто не відав гріха, Він учинив за нас гріхом, щоб стали ми Божою праведністю в Нім!
