а єсть під опікунами та доморядниками аж до нароку отця.
So also we, while we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental things of the world.
Так же й ми, як були малолїтками, були підневолені первотинами сьвіта.
But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
Як же прийшла повня часу, послав Бог Сина свого, що родивсь від жени і був під законом,
so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
щоб викупив тих, що під законом, щоб ми прийняли всиновленнє.
Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
А що ви сини, то послав Бог Духа Сина свого в серця ваші, що покликує: Авва, Отче!
Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
Тим же вже більш не невільник єси, а син; коли ж син, то й наслїдник Божий через Христа.
However at that time, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods.
Тільки ж тодї, не знаючи Бога, служили ви тим, що не по природї були богами.
But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again?
Тепер же, знаючи Бога, більше ж будучи познані від Бога, як вертаєтесь до немочних та мізерних первотин, котрим знов наново служити хочете?
I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain.
Боюсь за вас, що може марно працював коло вас.
I beg of you, brethren, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You have done me no wrong;
Будьте, браттє, благаю вас, як і я: бо й я (такий), як ви. Нїчим ви мене не скривдили.
but you know that it was because of a bodily illness that I preached the gospel to you the first time;
Ви ж знаєте, що я у немощі тїла благовістив вам перше.
and that which was a trial to you in my bodily condition you did not despise or loathe, but you received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus Himself.
І не погордували ви спокусою, що була в тїлї моїм, анї відопхнули, а як ангела Божого прийняли мене, як Христа Ісуса.
Where then is that sense of blessing you had? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.
Яке ж то було блаженство ваше! Сьвідкую бо вам, що коли б можна, ви б тодї, вирвавши очі свої, оддали менї.
So have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?
То чи вже став я ворогом вам, говорячи вам правду?
They eagerly seek you, not commendably, but they wish to shut you out so that you will seek them.
Ревнують про вас не добре, а хочуть відлучити вас, щоб ви про них ревнували.
But it is good always to be eagerly sought in a commendable manner, and not only when I am present with you.
Добре ж ревнувати всякого часу в доброму, тай не тільки, як я приходжу до вас.
My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you —
Дїточки мої, (ви,) котрими знов мучусь (перед родинами), доки Христос в'образить ся у вас,
but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.
хотїв би я бути у вас сьогоднї і змінити голос мій: бо я в непевности про вас.
Bond and Free
Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the law?
Скажіть менї, ви, що хочете бути під законом: хиба ви закону не слухаєте?
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the bondwoman and one by the free woman.
Писано бо, що Авраам мав два сини, одного від невольницї, а одного од вільної.
But the son by the bondwoman was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise.
Та що був од невольницї, родивсь по тїлу, а що од вільної, по обітницї.
This is allegorically speaking, for these women are two covenants: one proceeding from Mount Sinai bearing children who are to be slaves; she is Hagar.
Се ж иносказаннє; се бо два завіти: один з гори Синая, що родить у неволю, котра єсть Агара.
Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.
Бо Агара, се Синай, гора в Аравиї, прикладаєть ся ж до теперішнього Єрусалиму, і служить з дїтьми своїми.
But the Jerusalem above is free; she is our mother.
А вишнїй Єрусалим вільний; він мати всїм нам.
For it is written,
“REJOICE, BARREN WOMAN WHO DOES NOT BEAR;
BREAK FORTH AND SHOUT, YOU WHO ARE NOT IN LABOR;
FOR MORE NUMEROUS ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE DESOLATE
THAN OF THE ONE WHO HAS A HUSBAND.”
“REJOICE, BARREN WOMAN WHO DOES NOT BEAR;
BREAK FORTH AND SHOUT, YOU WHO ARE NOT IN LABOR;
FOR MORE NUMEROUS ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE DESOLATE
THAN OF THE ONE WHO HAS A HUSBAND.”
Писано бо: Звеселись, неплідна, що не роджаєш; гукай та покликуй, ти, що не мучилась; бо в одинокої багато дїтей, більш нїж у тієї, що має чоловіка.
And you brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise.
Ми ж, браттє, по Ісааку дїти обітування.
But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also.
Та, як тодї, хто родивсь по тїлу, гонив того, хто по духу, так і тепер.
But what does the Scripture say?
“CAST OUT THE BONDWOMAN AND HER SON,
FOR THE SON OF THE BONDWOMAN SHALL NOT BE AN HEIR WITH THE SON OF THE FREE WOMAN.”
“CAST OUT THE BONDWOMAN AND HER SON,
FOR THE SON OF THE BONDWOMAN SHALL NOT BE AN HEIR WITH THE SON OF THE FREE WOMAN.”
Тільки ж бо що глаголе писаннє? Вижени невільницю й сина її, не має бо наслїдувати син невільницї з сином вільної.
