New King James Version

  • The Day of the Lord

    Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.
  • The Day of the Lord

    But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.
  • For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
  • For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
  • While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.
  • For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
  • But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;
  • But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
  • for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;
  • You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
  • so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.
  • Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be [a]sober.
  • For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night.
  • For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.
  • But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.
  • But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.
  • For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
  • For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
  • who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.
  • who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.
  • Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
  • Therefore [b]comfort each other and [c]edify one another, just as you also are doing.

  • Christian Conduct

    But we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction,
  • Various Exhortations

    And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and [d]admonish you,
  • and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in peace with one another.
  • and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.
  • We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
  • Now we [e]exhort you, brethren, warn those who are [f]unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.
  • See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.
  • See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.
  • Rejoice always;
  • Rejoice always,
  • pray without ceasing;
  • pray without ceasing,
  • in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
  • in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
  • Do not quench the Spirit;
  • Do not quench the Spirit.
  • do not despise prophetic utterances.
  • Do not despise prophecies.
  • But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;
  • Test all things; hold fast what is good.
  • abstain from every form of evil.
  • Abstain from every form of evil.
  • Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Blessing and Admonition

    Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify[g] you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.
  • He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
  • Brethren, pray for us.
  • Brethren, pray for us.
  • Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.
  • Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.
  • I adjure you by the Lord to have this letter read to all the brethren.
  • I charge you by the Lord that this [h]epistle be read to all the [i]holy brethren.
  • The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
  • The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
