New American Standard Bible

New King James Version

  • Duties of the Older and Younger

    But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine.
  • Qualities of a Sound Church

    But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:
  • Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance.
  • that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;
  • Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,
  • the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things —
  • so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
  • that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
  • to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
  • to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.
  • Likewise urge the young men to be sensible;
  • Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded,
  • in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified,
  • in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,[a]
  • sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
  • sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of [b]you.
  • Urge bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
  • Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,
  • not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in every respect.
  • not [c]pilfering, but showing all good [d]fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.
  • For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
  • Trained by Saving Grace

    For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
  • instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,
  • teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
  • looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,
  • looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
  • who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
  • who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
  • These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.
  • Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
