Hannah’s Song of Thanksgiving
Then Hannah prayed and said,
“My heart exults in the LORD;
My horn is exalted in the LORD,
My mouth speaks boldly against my enemies,
Because I rejoice in Your salvation.

І молилася Анна та й проказала: „Звесели́лося Господом серце моє, мій ріг став високим у Го́споді! Розкри́лися у́ста мої на моїх ворогів, бо радію з спасіння Твого́!
“There is no one holy like the LORD,
Indeed, there is no one besides You,
Nor is there any rock like our God.
Indeed, there is no one besides You,

Немає святого, подібного Господу, немає ніко́го, крім Те́бе, і скелі немає, як Бог наш!
“Boast no more so very proudly,
Do not let arrogance come out of your mouth;
For the LORD is a God of knowledge,
And with Him actions are weighed.

Більше не говоріть зарозумі́ло, нехай з ваших уст не виходить зухва́льство, бо Господь — Бог знання́, і Він упляно́вує вчинки!

Наймаються ситі за хліб, а голодні відпочивають, аж неплідна сімо́х породила, а многодітна — знеси́ліла.
“The LORD kills and makes alive;

Підіймає нужде́нного з по́роху, підно́сить убогого зо смітникі́в, щоб посадити з вельмо́жами й престол слави їм дать на спа́дщину, бо Госпо́дні основи землі, і на них Він поставив вселе́нну.
“He keeps the feet of His godly ones,
But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness;
For not by might shall a man prevail.

Він ноги святих Своїх стереже, нечестиві ж погинуть у те́мряві, бо сильним не з сили стає чоловік.
“Those who contend with the LORD will be shattered;
Against them He will thunder in the heavens,
The LORD will judge the ends of the earth;
And He will give strength to His king,
And will exalt the horn of His anointed.”

Господь — хай поламані будуть Його супроти́вники! У небі Господь загримить, і розсудить Він кі́нці землі! І Він подасть силу Своєму царе́ві, і рога повищить Свого помаза́нця!“
Then Elkanah went to his home at Ramah. But the boy ministered to the LORD before Eli the priest.
І пішов Елкана до Рами, до дому свого. А той отрок служив Господе́ві при священикові Ілі́ї.
The Sin of Eli’s Sons
Now the sons of Eli were worthless men; they did not know the LORD
А сини Ілі́я були люди негідні, — вони не знали Господа,
and the custom of the priests with the people. When any man was offering a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come while the meat was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand.
ані зви́чаю священичого з народом. Коли хто прино́сив жертву, то, як варилося м'ясо, прихо́див священиків слуга, а в його руці — тризубе виде́льце.
Then he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. Thus they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there.
І він із грюкотом стромляв до мідниці, або до кітла, або до горшка, або до горня́ти, — і все, що витягне видельце, священик собі брав. Так вони робили всьому Ізраїлеві, що прихо́див туди до Шіло́.
Also, before they burned the fat, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “Give the priest meat for roasting, as he will not take boiled meat from you, only raw.”
Також поки пали́ли лій, то прихо́див священиків слуга, та й говорив до чоловіка, що приносив жертву: „Дай м'яса на печеню для священика, бо він не ві́зьме від тебе м'яса варе́ного, а тільки сире!“
If the man said to him, “They must surely burn the fat first, and then take as much as you desire,” then he would say, “No, but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force.”
А як той чоловік відповідав йому: „Нехай перше спалять і той лій, а ти потім візьми собі, скільки буде жадати душа твоя!“ А той говорив: „Ні, таки зараз давай! А коли ні, візьму́ силою!“
Thus the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD, for the men despised the offering of the LORD.
І був гріх тих юнакі́в дуже великий перед Господнім лицем, бо ті люди безче́стили Господню жертву
Samuel before the LORD as a Boy
Now Samuel was ministering before the LORD, as a boy wearing a linen ephod.
А Самуїл служив перед Господнім лицем. Отрок був оперезаний лляни́м ефо́дом.
And his mother would make him a little robe and bring it to him from year to year when she would come up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.
А малу верхню одежину робила йому його мати, і прино́сила йому з року на рік, коли прихо́дила з своїм мужем прино́сити річну жертву.
Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, “May the LORD give you children from this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the LORD.” And they went to their own home.
А Ілій поблагословив Елкану й його жінку та й сказав: „Нехай Господь дасть тобі наща́дків від цієї жінки, за ві́дданого, що Господь узяв“. І пішли вони на місце своє.
The LORD visited Hannah; and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew before the LORD.
І Господь згадав про Анну, і вона завагітні́ла, та й породила трьох синів та дві до́чки. А о́трок Самуїл ріс із Господом.
Eli Rebukes His Sons
Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who served at the doorway of the tent of meeting.
А Ілі́й був дуже стари́й. І почув він усе, що́ сини його роблять усьому Ізраїлеві, і що вони злягаються з жінками, які відбувають службу при вході скинії заповіту.
He said to them, “Why do you do such things, the evil things that I hear from all these people?
І він сказав їм: „Нащо ви робите такі речі, про які я чую? Про ваші злі вчинки я чую від усього цього народу.
“No, my sons; for the report is not good which I hear the LORD’S people circulating.
Ні, сини мої, — недобра та чутка, що я чую, — ви відхиляєте Господній наро́д від Закону!
“If one man sins against another, God will mediate for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?” But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for the LORD desired to put them to death.
Якщо хто згрішить супроти люди́ни, то помо́ляться за неї перед Богом. А якщо люди́на згрішить супроти Господа, — хто заступиться за неї?“ Та вони не слухали голосу батька свого, бо Господь постановив погубити їх.
Now the boy Samuel was growing in stature and in favor both with the LORD and with men.
А о́трок Самуїл усе ріс, та здобува́в ла́ску як у Господа, так і в людей.
Then a man of God came to Eli and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Did I not indeed reveal Myself to the house of your father when they were in Egypt in bondage to Pharaoh’s house?
І прийшов Божий чоловік до Ілія, та й сказав йому: „Так сказав Господь: Чи ж Я справді не об'явився до́мові твого батька, як були вони в Єгипті, у фараоновім домі?
‘Did I not choose them from all the tribes of Israel to be My priests, to go up to My altar, to burn incense, to carry an ephod before Me; and did I not give to the house of your father all the fire offerings of the sons of Israel?
Я вибрав його Собі зо всіх Ізраїлевих племен за священика, щоб він входив до Мого жертівника, щоб кадив кадило, щоб носив ефо́да перед Моїм лицем. І дав Я до́мові твого батька всі жертви Ізраїлевих синів.
‘Why do you kick at My sacrifice and at My offering which I have commanded in My dwelling, and honor your sons above Me, by making yourselves fat with the choicest of every offering of My people Israel?’
Чого ж ви бере́те під ноги Мою жертву та Мою жертву хлібну, що Я заповів для скинії? І ти вшанував синів своїх більш, як Мене, щоб ви потовстіли від найкращих частин усякого Ізраїлевого да́ру перед лицем Моїм.
“Therefore the LORD God of Israel declares, ‘I did indeed say that your house and the house of your father should walk before Me forever’; but now the LORD declares, ‘Far be it from Me — for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed.
Тому́ то слово Господа, Бога Ізраїлевого, таке: Говорячи, сказав Я: Дім твій та дім батька твого будуть ходити перед Моїм лицем аж навіки. А тепер слово Господнє: Не буде в Мене такого, бо Я шаную тих, хто шанує Мене, а ті, хто зневажає Мене, будуть знева́жені!
‘Behold, the days are coming when I will break your strength and the strength of your father’s house so that there will not be an old man in your house.
Ось приходять дні, і Я відітну́ раме́но твоє та раме́но дому батька твого, щоб не було старо́го в домі твоєму.
‘You will see the distress of My dwelling, in spite of all the good that I do for Israel; and an old man will not be in your house forever.
І побачиш біду Мого ме́шкання, хоч у всьому Я добре чинив Ізра́їлеві, і не буде старого в домі твоїм по всі дні.
‘Yet I will not cut off every man of yours from My altar so that your eyes will fail from weeping and your soul grieve, and all the increase of your house will die in the prime of life.
Я не витну в тебе всіх від Мого жертівника, щоб вибрати очі твої, і щоб зробити біль душі твоїй, — та ввесь до́ріст твого дому повмирає в силі віку.
‘This will be the sign to you which will come concerning your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas: on the same day both of them will die.
А оце тобі озна́ка, що при́йде на обох синів твоїх, на Хофні та Пінхаса, — оби́два вони помруть одно́го дня.
‘But I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and in My soul; and I will build him an enduring house, and he will walk before My anointed always.
А Я поставлю Собі священика вірного, — він буде робити згідно з серцем Моїм та з Моєю душею. І Я збудую йому тривалий дім, і він буде ходити перед Моїм пома́занцем по всі дні.
‘Everyone who is left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver or a loaf of bread and say, “Please assign me to one of the priest’s offices so that I may eat a piece of bread.”’”
І станеться, — кожен, хто полишиться в домі твоїм, при́йде вклонятися йому за аґору срібла та за бухане́ць хліба, і скаже: Долучи мене до одного з священицтв, щоб їсти кавалок хліба“.
