The Prophetic Call to Samuel
Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD before Eli. And word from the LORD was rare in those days, visions were infrequent.

А о́трок Самуїл служив Господе́ві при Ілії. А Господнє слово було рідке́ за тих днів, видіння не було часте́.
It happened at that time as Eli was lying down in his place (now his eyesight had begun to grow dim and he could not see well),
І сталося того дня, коли Ілі́й лежав на своєму місці, а очі його стали затемня́тися, він не міг бачити,
and the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was,
і поки Божий світильник ще не погас, а Самуїл лежав у Господньому храмі, там, де Божий ковче́г,
that the LORD called Samuel; and he said, “Here I am.”
то покли́кав Господь до Самуїла: „Самуїле, Самуїле!“ А він відказав: „Ось я!“
Then he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, lie down again.” So he went and lay down.
І побіг він до Ілі́я та й сказав: „Ось я, бо ти кликав мене“. А той відказав: „Я не кликав. Вернися, лягай“. І він пішов і ліг.
The LORD called yet again, “Samuel!” So Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he answered, “I did not call, my son, lie down again.”
А Господь далі покликав: „Самуїле, Самуїле!“ І встав Самуїл, і пішов до Ілія та й сказав: „Ось я, бо ти кликав мене“. А той відказав: „Не кликав я, си́ну мій. Вернися, лягай“.
Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, nor had the word of the LORD yet been revealed to him.
А Самуїл ще не пізнав голосу Господа, і ще не відкрилося йому Господнє слово.
So the LORD called Samuel again for the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli discerned that the LORD was calling the boy.
А Господь далі покли́кав Самуїла третій раз. І він устав, і пішов до Ілі́я та й сказав: „Ось я, бо ти кликав мене“. І зрозумів Ілій, що то Господь кличе о́трока.
And Eli said to Samuel, “Go lie down, and it shall be if He calls you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
І сказав Ілій до Самуїла: „Іди, лягай. І якщо знову покличе тебе, то скажеш: „Говори, Господи, бо раб Твій слухає Тебе!“ І пішов Самуїл, та й ліг на своє місце.
Then the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.”
І ввійшов Господь, і став, і покли́кав, як перед тим: „Самуїле, Самуїле!“ А Самуїл відказав: „Говори, Господи, бо раб Твій слухає!“
The LORD said to Samuel, “Behold, I am about to do a thing in Israel at which both ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.
І сказав Господь до Самуїла: „Ось Я зроблю́ таку річ серед Ізраїля, що в кожного, хто почує про неї, задзвени́ть в обох ву́хах його.
“In that day I will carry out against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.
Того дня Я виконаю над Ілі́єм все, що Я говорив про дім його, від поча́тку й до кінця.
“For I have told him that I am about to judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves and he did not rebuke them.
І розповім йому, що Я суджу́ дім його навіки за гріх, про який він знав, що сини його богозневажають, та не спиняв їх.
“Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be atoned for by sacrifice or offering forever.”
Тому́ присягнув Я домом Ілі́я, що не очиститься гріх Ілі́євого дому жертвою та жертвою хлібною навіки“.
So Samuel lay down until morning. Then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. But Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.
I лежав Самуїл аж до ра́нку, і відчинив двері Господнього дому. А Самуїл боявся розповісти Ілі́єві про те видіння.
Then Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son.” And he said, “Here I am.”
І покликав Ілі́й Самуїла, та й сказав: „Самуїле, сину мій!“ А той сказав: „Ось я!“
He said, “What is the word that He spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. May God do so to you, and more also, if you hide anything from me of all the words that He spoke to you.”
І сказав він: „Що́ то за річ, про яку Він говорив до тебе? Не крий правди передо мною. Нехай Господь зробить тобі так, і нехай додасть, якщо ти скажеш неправду передо мною про щось зо всього того, що говорив Він до тебе!“
So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, “It is the LORD; let Him do what seems good to Him.”
І розповів йому Самуїл усе те, і не сказав неправди перед ним. А той сказав: „Він — Господь, нехай зробить те, що́ добре в оча́х Його!“
Thus Samuel grew and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fail.
І вироста́в Самуїл, а Господь був із ним, і не опустивані жодного зо всіх Його слів.
All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the LORD.
І ввесь Ізра́їль, від Дана аж до Беер-Шеви, пізнав, що Самуїл вірний, як пророк Господній.
