Some time later, the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt offended their master, the king of Egypt.

І сталося по тих пригодах, чашник єгипетського царя та пекар провинилися були панові своєму, цареві єгипетському.
Pharaoh was angry with his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,
І розгнівався фараон на двох своїх е́внухів, — на начальника чашників і на начальника пекарів.
and put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the same prison where Joseph was confined.
І віддав їх під варту до дому начальника царської сторожі до в'язничного дому, до місця, де Йосип був ув'я́знений.
The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he attended them.
After they had been in custody for some time,

А начальник царсько́ї сторожі приставив Йосипа до них, і він їм услуговував. І були вони деякий час під вартою.
each of the two men — the cupbearer and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were being held in prison — had a dream the same night, and each dream had a meaning of its own.
І снився їм обом сон, кожному свій сон, однієї ночі, кожному за зна́ченням його сна, чашникові й пекареві царя єгипетського, що були ув'язнені у в'язничному домі.
When Joseph came to them the next morning, he saw that they were dejected.
І прибув до них Йосип уранці, і побачив їх, а вони ось сумні.
So he asked Pharaoh’s officials who were in custody with him in his master’s house, “Why do you look so sad today?”
І запитав він фараонових евнухів, що були з ним під вартою в домі пана його, говорячи: „Чого ваші обличчя сьогодні сумні́?“
“We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.”
Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”
Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”
А вони сказали йому: „Снився нам сон, а відгадати його немає кому“. І сказав до них Йосип: „Чи ж не в Бога відгадки? Розповіджте но мені“.
So the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream. He said to him, “In my dream I saw a vine in front of me,
І оповів начальник чашників Йо́сипові свій сон, і сказав йому: „Бачив я в сні своїм, — ось виноградний кущ передо мною.
and on the vine were three branches. As soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes.
А в виноградному кущі три виноградні галу́зки, а він сам ніби розцвів, пустив цвіт, і дозріли грона його ягід.
Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into Pharaoh’s cup and put the cup in his hand.”
А в моїй руці фараонова чаша. І взяв я ті ягоди, і вичавив їх до фараонової чаші, і дав ту чашу в руку фараона“.
“This is what it means,” Joseph said to him. “The three branches are three days.
І сказав йому Йо́сип: „Оце відгадка його: три виноградні галузки — це три дні.
Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position, and you will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you used to do when you were his cupbearer.
Ще за три дні підійме фараон твою голову, і верне тебе на твоє становище, і ти даси́ чашу фараона до руки його за першим звича́єм, як був ти чашником його.
But when all goes well with you, remember me and show me kindness; mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this prison.
Коли ти згадаєш собі про мене, як бу́де тобі добре, — то вчиниш милість мені, коли згадаєш про мене перед фараоном, і випровадиш мене з цього дому.
I was forcibly carried off from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing to deserve being put in a dungeon.”
Бо я був справді вкрадений із Краю єврейського, а також тут я не вчинив нічого, щоб мене вкинути до цієї ями“.
І побачив начальник пекарів, що він добре відгадав, і промовив до Йосипа: „І я в сні своїм бачив, — ось три коші пе́чива на голові моїй.
In the top basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”
А в коші горі́шньому — зо всякого пекарського виробу фараонове їдження, а птах їв його з коша з-над моєї голови“.
“This is what it means,” Joseph said. “The three baskets are three days.
І відповів Йосип і сказав: „Оце відгадка його: три коші — то три дні.
Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head and impale your body on a pole. And the birds will eat away your flesh.”
Ще за три дні піді́йме фараон голову твою з тебе, і повісить тебе на дереві, — і птах поїсть тіло твоє з тебе.“
Now the third day was Pharaoh’s birthday, and he gave a feast for all his officials. He lifted up the heads of the chief cupbearer and the chief baker in the presence of his officials:
І сталося третього дня, у день народження фараона, і вчинив він гостину для всіх своїх рабів. І підняв він голову начальника чашників і голову начальника пекарів серед своїх рабів.
He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, so that he once again put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand —
І вернув він начальника чашників на його місце, і він подав чашу в руку фараонову.
but he impaled the chief baker, just as Joseph had said to them in his interpretation.
А начальника пекарів повісив, як відгадав був їм Йо́сип.
