Now Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. The king sent a messenger ahead, but before he arrived, Elisha said to the elders, “Don’t you see how this murderer is sending someone to cut off my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door and hold it shut against him. Is not the sound of his master’s footsteps behind him?”

But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?

Елисей же сидел в своём доме, и старцы сидели у него. И послал царь человека от себя. Прежде нежели пришёл посланный к нему, он сказал старцам: видите ли, что этот сын убийцы послал снять с меня голову? Смотрите, когда придёт посланный, затворите дверь и прижмите его дверью. А вот и топот ног господина его за ним!

Перше ж нїж посланець дійшов до його, рече він значнїм людям: А знаєте ви, що сей син душогубця послав до мене, щоб стяти менї голову? Гледїте ж, скоро посланець надійде, зачинїте двері та й не допустїть увійти, бо ось, чути вже тупаннє пана його за ним. -
А Єлисей сидів у своєму домі, а з ним сиділи старші́. І послав цар чоловіка від себе. Поки прийшов посол до нього, то він сказав до старши́х: „Чи ви бачите, що цей син уби́вника послав зняти мою го́лову? Глядіть, як при́йде цей посол, то замкніть двері, — і прити́снете його в две́рях. Ось і шаруді́ння ніг пана його за ним“.

— Знаете ли вы, что этот сын убийцы послал человека отсечь мне голову? Когда посланец придет, смотрите, заприте дверь и держите ее перед ним запертой. Не звук ли шагов его господина за ним? -
А Елісей перебував у своєму домі, і старійшини перебували з ним. І послав чоловіка перед ним раніше, ніж до нього прийшов посланець, і він сказав старійшинам: Чи знаєте, що цей приречений на смерть послав, щоб зняти мою голову? Глядіть, як тільки прийде посланець, закрийте двері й затримайте його при дверях. Хіба не звук ніг його володаря за ним?
