  • Joy Comes with the Morning

    A Psalm of David. A song at the dedication of the temple.

    I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up
    and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
  • Lord my God, I called to you for help,
    and you healed me.
  • O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
    and you have healed me.
  • You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead;
    you spared me from going down to the pit.
  • O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol;
    you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.a
  • Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people;
    praise his holy name.
  • Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
    and give thanks to his holy name.b
  • For his anger lasts only a moment,
    but his favor lasts a lifetime;
    weeping may stay for the night,
    but rejoicing comes in the morning.
  • For his anger is but for a moment,
    and his favor is for a lifetime.c
    Weeping may tarry for the night,
    but joy comes with the morning.
  • When I felt secure, I said,
    “I will never be shaken.”
  • As for me, I said in my prosperity,
    “I shall never be moved.”
  • Lord, when you favored me,
    you made my royal mountainc stand firm;
    but when you hid your face,
    I was dismayed.
  • By your favor, O Lord,
    you made my mountain stand strong;
    you hid your face;
    I was dismayed.
  • To you, Lord, I called;
    to the Lord I cried for mercy:
  • To you, O Lord, I cry,
    and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
  • “What is gained if I am silenced,
    if I go down to the pit?
    Will the dust praise you?
    Will it proclaim your faithfulness?
  • “What profit is there in my death,d
    if I go down to the pit?e
    Will the dust praise you?
    Will it tell of your faithfulness?
  • Hear, Lord, and be merciful to me;
    Lord, be my help.”
  • Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!
    O Lord, be my helper!”
  • You turned my wailing into dancing;
    you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
  • You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
    you have loosed my sackcloth
    and clothed me with gladness,
  • that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.
    Lord my God, I will praise you forever.
  • that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
    O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
