For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskilb of David.

Listen to my prayer, O God,
do not ignore my plea;

Проводиреві хора: при струнах; наука Давидова. В ислухай, Боже, молитву мою, і не ховайся перед моїм моленнєм.

hear me and answer me.
My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught

Прихились і вислухай мене! Я блукаю, нарікаючи, й мушу стогнати,

3

because of what my enemy is saying,
because of the threats of the wicked;
for they bring down suffering on me
and assail me in their anger.

Задля ворожого голосу, задля гнету беззаконника; вони бо громадять лихо на мене, і гнївом запалившись, ворогують на мене.

My heart is in anguish within me;
the terrors of death have fallen on me.

Серце моє жахалось в мене, і смертний страх обняв мене.

5

Fear and trembling have beset me;
horror has overwhelmed me.

Страх і дрожаннє напали на мене, і жах обняв мене.

I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest.

І я сказав: Ой, коли б менї крила, як в голубки! Полетїв би я, і відпочив би.

I would flee far away
and stay in the desert;c

Полинув би я далеко, став би жити в пустинї.

8

I would hurry to my place of shelter,
far from the tempest and storm.”

Рад би чим скорше втїчи від вітру буйного, від бучі.

Lord, confuse the wicked, confound their words,
for I see violence and strife in the city.

Запропасти їх, Господи, розрубай на двоє язики їх; бо насильства і сварки бачив я в городї.

10

Day and night they prowl about on its walls;
malice and abuse are within it.

10

День і ніч обходять його на мурах його; та в серединї його нещастє і кривда.

11

Destructive forces are at work in the city;
threats and lies never leave its streets.

Роблять пакостї один одному, гнобленнє і зрада не щезають з їх улицї.

12

If an enemy were insulting me,
I could endure it;
if a foe were rising against me,
I could hide.

Бо се не ворог, що глузує з мене, ато перетерпів би я; та й не мій се ненавидник, що надо мною виноситься, а то не зважав би я на него;

13

But it is you, a man like myself,
my companion, my close friend,

А ти, чоловіче, рівня менї, мій довірник і мій знакомий,

14

with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship
at the house of God,
as we walked about
among the worshipers.

З котрим ми довірчиво сходились, і до дому Божого вкупі з народом ходили.

15

Let death take my enemies by surprise;
let them go down alive to the realm of the dead,
for evil finds lodging among them.

Погибіль на них; живцем нехай проваляться під землю, бо пакостї в домівцї їх, в серединї їх.

16

As for me, I call to God,
and the Lord saves me.

16

Кличу до Бога, і Господь спасає мене.

17

Evening, morning and noon
I cry out in distress,
and he hears my voice.

Вечером і вранцї і в полудень мушу стогнати, і він чує мій голос.

18

He rescues me unharmed
from the battle waged against me,
even though many oppose me.

Він вибавив душу мою в бою проти мене; було бо їх багацько проти мене.

19

God, who is enthroned from of old,
who does not change —
he will hear them and humble them,
because they have no fear of God.

Почує Бог і покорить їх, він на престолї од віку; нема бо в них поправи, не бояться вони Бога.

20

My companion attacks his friends;
he violates his covenant.

20

Піднїс руки свої на тих, що спокійно з ним жили; він зложив заповіт свій.

21

His talk is smooth as butter,
yet war is in his heart;
his words are more soothing than oil,
yet they are drawn swords.

21

Губи його маснїйші, як сметана, а в серцї його війна; гладші слова його над оливу, а вони — обнажені мечі.

22

Cast your cares on the Lord
and he will sustain you;
he will never let
the righteous be shaken.

22

Спустись на Господа з твоїм оберемком, і він піддержить тебе; не допустить він нїколи, щоб праведник захитався.

23

But you, God, will bring down the wicked
into the pit of decay;
the bloodthirsty and deceitful
will not live out half their days.
But as for me, I trust in you.

23

А ти, Боже, провалиш їх в яму погибелї: люде кровожадні і зрадники не дожиють половини віку свого. Я ж буду вповати на тебе.
