New King James Version

  • Psalm 77a

    For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm.

    I cried out to God for help;
    I cried out to God to hear me.
  • The Consoling Memory of God’s Redemptive Works

    To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.

    I cried out to God with my voice —
    To God with my voice;
    And He gave ear to me.
  • When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;
    at night I stretched out untiring hands,
    and I would not be comforted.
  • In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord;
    My hand was stretched out in the night without ceasing;
    My soul refused to be comforted.
  • I remembered you, God, and I groaned;
    I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.b
  • I remembered God, and was troubled;
    I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah
  • You kept my eyes from closing;
    I was too troubled to speak.
  • You hold my eyelids open;
    I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
  • I thought about the former days,
    the years of long ago;
  • I have considered the days of old,
    The years of ancient times.
  • I remembered my songs in the night.
    My heart meditated and my spirit asked:
  • I call to remembrance my song in the night;
    I meditate within my heart,
    And my spirit [a]makes diligent search.
  • “Will the Lord reject forever?
    Will he never show his favor again?
  • Will the Lord cast off forever?
    And will He be favorable no more?
  • Has his unfailing love vanished forever?
    Has his promise failed for all time?
  • Has His mercy ceased forever?
    Has His promise failed [b]forevermore?
  • Has God forgotten to be merciful?
    Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”
  • Has God forgotten to be gracious?
    Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies? Selah
  • Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:
    the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.
  • And I said, “This is my [c]anguish;
    But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
  • I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
    yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
  • I will remember the works of the Lord;
    Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.
  • I will consider all your works
    and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
  • I will also meditate on all Your work,
    And talk of Your deeds.
  • Your ways, God, are holy.
    What god is as great as our God?
  • Your way, O God, is in [d]the sanctuary;
    Who is so great a God as our God?
  • You are the God who performs miracles;
    you display your power among the peoples.
  • You are the God who does wonders;
    You have declared Your strength among the peoples.
  • With your mighty arm you redeemed your people,
    the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.
  • You have with Your arm redeemed Your people,
    The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
  • The waters saw you, God,
    the waters saw you and writhed;
    the very depths were convulsed.
  • The waters saw You, O God;
    The waters saw You, they were afraid;
    The depths also trembled.
  • The clouds poured down water,
    the heavens resounded with thunder;
    your arrows flashed back and forth.
  • The clouds poured out water;
    The skies sent out a sound;
    Your arrows also flashed about.
  • Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind,
    your lightning lit up the world;
    the earth trembled and quaked.
  • The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind;
    The lightnings lit up the world;
    The earth trembled and shook.
  • Your path led through the sea,
    your way through the mighty waters,
    though your footprints were not seen.
  • Your way was in the sea,
    Your path in the great waters,
    And Your footsteps were not known.
  • You led your people like a flock
    by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
  • You led Your people like a flock
    By the hand of Moses and Aaron.
