Do not run until your feet are bare
and your throat is dry.
But you said, ‘It’s no use!
I love foreign gods,
and I must go after them.’

Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

Не давай ногам твоим истаптывать обувь и гортани твоей — томиться жаждою. Но ты сказал: «не надейся, нет! ибо люблю чужих и буду ходить вослед их».

Вважай же, щоб босими не стали твої ноги, а й щоб не висохло твоє горло! Але ти кажеш: Даремна річ! Ні! Бо я вподобала чужинців, тож і бігатиму за ними.

Здержуй ноги твої, щоб не витоптували обуви, не давай горлу твому томитись спрагою. Ти ж кажеш: Не надїйсь, нї! бо я вподобала собі чужих (богів), так і бігати му слїдом за ними. -
Стримуй но́гу свою, щоб не бути їй бо́сою, і від пра́гнення горло своє. А ти кажеш: „Пропало, вже ні, бо я покохала чужих — і за ними піду́“.

Побереги свои ноги, чтобы не остаться разутой,
и свое горло — чтобы не пересохло.
Но ты сказала: «Бесполезно!
Я люблю чужих богов
и буду бегать за ними». -
Поверни твою ногу з нерівної дороги і твоє горло від спраги! А вона сказала: Я триматимуся мужньо! Адже я полюбила чужих і пішла за ними!
