New King James Version

  • Restoration of Israel

    This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:
  • Restoration of Israel and Judah

    The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
  • “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you.
  • “Thus speaks the Lord God of Israel, saying: ‘Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you.
  • The days are coming,’ declares the Lord, ‘when I will bring my people Israel and Judah back from captivitya and restore them to the land I gave their ancestors to possess,’ says the Lord.”
  • For behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’ says the Lord. ‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’ ”
  • These are the words the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah:
  • Now these are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah.
  • “This is what the Lord says:
    “ ‘Cries of fear are heard —
    terror, not peace.
  • “For thus says the Lord:
    ‘We have heard a voice of trembling,
    Of [a]fear, and not of peace.
  • Ask and see:
    Can a man bear children?
    Then why do I see every strong man
    with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor,
    every face turned deathly pale?
  • Ask now, and see,
    Whether a [b]man is ever in [c]labor with child?
    So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins
    Like a woman in labor,
    And all faces turned pale?
  • How awful that day will be!
    No other will be like it.
    It will be a time of trouble for Jacob,
    but he will be saved out of it.
  • Alas! For that day is great,
    So that none is like it;
    And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble,
    But he shall be saved out of it.
  • “ ‘In that day,’ declares the Lord Almighty,
    ‘I will break the yoke off their necks
    and will tear off their bonds;
    no longer will foreigners enslave them.
  • ‘For it shall come to pass in that day,’
    Says the Lord of hosts,
    That I will break his yoke from your neck,
    And will burst your bonds;
    Foreigners shall no more enslave them.
  • Instead, they will serve the Lord their God
    and David their king,
    whom I will raise up for them.
  • But they shall serve the Lord their God,
    And David their king,
    Whom I will raise up for them.
  • “ ‘So do not be afraid, Jacob my servant;
    do not be dismayed, Israel,’
    declares the Lord.
    ‘I will surely save you out of a distant place,
    your descendants from the land of their exile.
    Jacob will again have peace and security,
    and no one will make him afraid.
  • ‘Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,’ says the Lord,
    ‘Nor be dismayed, O Israel;
    For behold, I will save you from afar,
    And your seed from the land of their captivity.
    Jacob shall return, have rest and be quiet,
    And no one shall make him afraid.
  • I am with you and will save you,’
    declares the Lord.
    ‘Though I completely destroy all the nations
    among which I scatter you,
    I will not completely destroy you.
    I will discipline you but only in due measure;
    I will not let you go entirely unpunished.’
  • For I am with you,’ says the Lord, ‘to save you;
    Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you,
    Yet I will not make a complete end of you.
    But I will correct you in justice,
    And will not let you go altogether unpunished.’
  • “This is what the Lord says:
    “ ‘Your wound is incurable,
    your injury beyond healing.
  • “For thus says the Lord:
    ‘Your affliction is incurable,
    Your wound is severe.
  • There is no one to plead your cause,
    no remedy for your sore,
    no healing for you.
  • There is no one to plead your cause,
    That you may be bound up;
    You have no healing medicines.
  • All your allies have forgotten you;
    they care nothing for you.
    I have struck you as an enemy would
    and punished you as would the cruel,
    because your guilt is so great
    and your sins so many.
  • All your lovers have forgotten you;
    They do not seek you;
    For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy,
    With the chastisement of a cruel one,
    For the multitude of your iniquities,
    Because your sins have increased.
  • Why do you cry out over your wound,
    your pain that has no cure?
    Because of your great guilt and many sins
    I have done these things to you.
  • Why do you cry about your affliction?
    Your sorrow is incurable.
    Because of the multitude of your iniquities,
    Because your sins have increased,
    I have done these things to you.
  • “ ‘But all who devour you will be devoured;
    all your enemies will go into exile.
    Those who plunder you will be plundered;
    all who make spoil of you I will despoil.
  • ‘Therefore all those who devour you shall be devoured;
    And all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity;
    Those who plunder you shall become plunder,
    And all who prey upon you I will make a prey.
  • But I will restore you to health
    and heal your wounds,’
    declares the Lord,
    ‘because you are called an outcast,
    Zion for whom no one cares.’
  • For I will restore health to you
    And heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord,
    ‘Because they called you an outcast saying:
    “This is Zion;
    No one seeks her.” ’
  • “This is what the Lord says:
    “ ‘I will restore the fortunes of Jacob’s tents
    and have compassion on his dwellings;
    the city will be rebuilt on her ruins,
    and the palace will stand in its proper place.
  • “Thus says the Lord:
    ‘Behold, I will bring back the captivity of Jacob’s tents,
    And have mercy on his dwelling places;
    The city shall be built upon its own [d]mound,
    And the palace shall remain according to its own plan.
  • From them will come songs of thanksgiving
    and the sound of rejoicing.
    I will add to their numbers,
    and they will not be decreased;
    I will bring them honor,
    and they will not be disdained.
  • Then out of them shall proceed thanksgiving
    And the voice of those who make merry;
    I will multiply them, and they shall not diminish;
    I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.
  • Their children will be as in days of old,
    and their community will be established before me;
    I will punish all who oppress them.
  • Their children also shall be as before,
    And their congregation shall be established before Me;
    And I will punish all who oppress them.
  • Their leader will be one of their own;
    their ruler will arise from among them.
    I will bring him near and he will come close to me —
    for who is he who will devote himself
    to be close to me?’declares the Lord.
  • Their nobles shall be from among them,
    And their governor shall come from their midst;
    Then I will cause him to draw near,
    And he shall approach Me;
    For who is this who pledged his heart to approach Me?’ says the Lord.
  • “‘So you will be my people,
    and I will be your God.’ ”
  • ‘You shall be My people,
    And I will be your God.’ ”
  • See, the storm of the Lord
    will burst out in wrath,
    a driving wind swirling down
    on the heads of the wicked.
  • Behold, the whirlwind of the Lord
    Goes forth with fury,
    A [e]continuing whirlwind;
    It will fall violently on the head of the wicked.
  • The fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back
    until he fully accomplishes
    the purposes of his heart.
    In days to come
    you will understand this.
  • The fierce anger of the Lord will not return until He has done it,
    And until He has performed the intents of His heart.
    In the latter days you will consider it.
