This is what the Lord says:
“See, I will stir up the spirit of a destroyer
against Babylon and the people of Leb Kamai.a

1

Слово, що було до Єремії для всіх юдеїв, які живуть в Єгипті, та для тих, що перебувають в Маґдолі, у Тафні й в землі Патура, кажучи:

I will send foreigners to Babylon
to winnow her and to devastate her land;
they will oppose her on every side
in the day of her disaster.

Так сказав Господь, Бог Ізраїля: Ви побачили все зло, яке Я навів на Єрусалим і на міста Юди, і ось вони опустілі від мешканців

3

Let not the archer string his bow,
nor let him put on his armor.
Do not spare her young men;
completely destroyb her army.

через присутність їхнього зла, яке вчинили, щоб засмутити Мене, ідучи, аби приносити ладан іншим богам, яких ви не знали.

4

They will fall down slain in Babylon,c
fatally wounded in her streets.

І Я посилав до вас Моїх рабів-пророків вдосвіта і посилав, кажучи: Не чиніть це гидке діло, яке Я зненавидів!

For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken
by their God, the Lord Almighty,
though their landd is full of guilt
before the Holy One of Israel.

Та вони не послухалися і не нахилили своє вухо, щоб відвернутися від їхнього зла, щоб не приносити ладан іншим богам.

“Flee from Babylon!
Run for your lives!
Do not be destroyed because of her sins.
It is time for the Lord’s vengeance;
he will repay her what she deserves.

7

Babylon was a gold cup in the Lord’s hand;
she made the whole earth drunk.
The nations drank her wine;
therefore they have now gone mad.

І тепер так сказав Господь Вседержитель: Чому ви чините велике зло проти ваших душ, щоб вирубати у вас чоловіка і жінку, немовля і дитину з-посеред Юди, щоб не залишився у вас ніхто,

Babylon will suddenly fall and be broken.
Wail over her!
Get balm for her pain;
perhaps she can be healed.

аби засмутити Мене ділами ваших рук, приносити ладан іншим богам у єгипетській землі, до якої ви ввійшли, щоб там поселитися, щоб ви були відтяті, щоб ви стали прокляттям і погордою між народами землі?

“ ‘We would have healed Babylon,
but she cannot be healed;
let us leave her and each go to our own land,
for her judgment reaches to the skies,
it rises as high as the heavens.’

Невже ви забули зло ваших батьків і зло царів Юди, і зло ваших володарів, і зло ваших жінок, яке вони робили в землі Юди та поза Єрусалимом?

“ ‘The Lord has vindicated us;
come, let us tell in Zion
what the Lord our God has done.’

“Sharpen the arrows,
take up the shields!
The Lord has stirred up the kings of the Medes,
because his purpose is to destroy Babylon.
The Lord will take vengeance,
vengeance for his temple.

Через це так сказав Господь: Ось Я ставлю Моє обличчя,

12

Lift up a banner against the walls of Babylon!
Reinforce the guard,
station the watchmen,
prepare an ambush!
The Lord will carry out his purpose,
his decree against the people of Babylon.

12

щоб вигубити всіх з решти, що в Єгипті, і впадуть від меча, і зникнуть від голоду, від малого аж до великого, і будуть на зневагу та на знищення й на прокляття.

13

You who live by many waters
and are rich in treasures,
your end has come,
the time for you to be destroyed.

13

І навідаюся до тих, що перебувають в Єгипті, як Я навідався і до Єрусалима мечем і голодом,

14

The Lord Almighty has sworn by himself:
I will surely fill you with troops, as with a swarm of locusts,
and they will shout in triumph over you.

14

і не буде того, хто спасається, — жодного з решти Юди, хто мешкає в єгипетській землі, щоб повернутися в землю Юди, на яку вони надіються своїми душами, аби туди повернутися. Не повернетесь, окрім хіба тих, що врятувалися!

15

“He made the earth by his power;
he founded the world by his wisdom
and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.

15

І відповіли Єремії всі мужі, які знали, що їхні жінки приносять ладан іншим богам, і всі жінки, і великий збір, і весь народ, — ті, що сиділи в єгипетській землі в Патурі, кажучи:

16

When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar;
he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth.
He sends lightning with the rain
and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

Слово, яке ти сказав нам Іменем Господа, не послухаємося тебе,

17

“Everyone is senseless and without knowledge;
every goldsmith is shamed by his idols.
The images he makes are a fraud;
they have no breath in them.

17

бо ми неодмінно виконаємо [1] кожне слово, яке вийде з наших уст, щоб приносити ладан цариці неба і приносити їй жертви виливання, — як і робили ми, і наші батьки, і наші царі, і наші володарі в містах Юди та поза Єрусалимом, — і ми наситилися хлібами, і нам було добре, і ми не знали зла.

18

They are worthless, the objects of mockery;
when their judgment comes, they will perish.

А коли ми перестали приносити ладан цариці неба, то ми всі стали нечисленними, — зникли від меча та від голоду.

19

He who is the Portion of Jacob is not like these,
for he is the Maker of all things,
including the people of his inheritance —
the Lord Almighty is his name.

19

І коли ми приносили ладан цариці неба і звершували для неї жертви виливання, то хіба ми робили без відома наших мужів для неї коржі й приносили їй жертви виливання?

20

“You are my war club,
my weapon for battle —
with you I shatter nations,
with you I destroy kingdoms,

20

І сказав Єремія всьому народові, сильним і жінкам, і всьому народові, що відповідали йому слова, кажучи:

21

with you I shatter horse and rider,
with you I shatter chariot and driver,

21

Хіба Господь не згадав ладан, який ви приносили в містах Юди і поза Єрусалимом, ви і ваші батьки, і ваші царі, і ваші володарі, і народ землі, і йому прийшло на серце?

22

with you I shatter man and woman,
with you I shatter old man and youth,
with you I shatter young man and young woman,

І Господь більше не зміг терпіти від присутності зла ваших діл від гидот, які ви робили, і ваша земля стала спустошеною, непрохідною і проклятою до цього дня

23

with you I shatter shepherd and flock,
with you I shatter farmer and oxen,
with you I shatter governors and officials.

23

від присутності того, що ви приносили ладан, і того, що ви грішили проти Господа, і ви не послухалися Господнього голосу, і не ходили за Його приписами та в Його законі й у Його свідченнях, і вас захопило це зло.

24

“Before your eyes I will repay Babylon and all who live in Babyloniae for all the wrong they have done in Zion,” declares the Lord.

24

І сказав Єремія народові та жінкам: Послухайте слово Господа.

25

“I am against you, you destroying mountain,
you who destroy the whole earth,”
declares the Lord.
“I will stretch out my hand against you,
roll you off the cliffs,
and make you a burned-out mountain.

25

Так сказав Господь, Бог Ізраїля: Ви, жінки, сказали вашими устами і сповнили вашими руками, кажучи: Ми неухильно виконуватимемо [2] наші прославляння, які ми визнавали, щоб приносити ладан цариці неба і виливати їй жертви виливання. Ви справді залишилися [3]вірними своїм прославлянням і дійсно виконали [4]їх.

26

No rock will be taken from you for a cornerstone,
nor any stone for a foundation,
for you will be desolate forever,”
declares the Lord.

27

“Lift up a banner in the land!
Blow the trumpet among the nations!
Prepare the nations for battle against her;
summon against her these kingdoms:
Ararat, Minni and Ashkenaz.
Appoint a commander against her;
send up horses like a swarm of locusts.

Бо ось Я чуваю над ними, щоб їм заподіяти зло і не вчинити добро, і зникатиме весь Юда, ті, що живуть в єгипетській землі, від меча і від голоду, аж доки не зникнуть.

28

Prepare the nations for battle against her —
the kings of the Medes,
their governors and all their officials,
and all the countries they rule.

28

А ті, що врятуються від меча, повернуться в землю Юди малі числом, і решта з Юди, ті, що є в єгипетській землі, щоб там жити, пізнають, чиє останнє слово.

29

The land trembles and writhes,
for the Lord’s purposes against Babylon stand —
to lay waste the land of Babylon
so that no one will live there.

29

І це вам знак, що Я навідаюся до вас на зло, —

30

Babylon’s warriors have stopped fighting;
they remain in their strongholds.
Their strength is exhausted;
they have become weaklings.
Her dwellings are set on fire;
the bars of her gates are broken.

30

так сказав Господь, — ось Я даю Уарфрия, царя Єгипту, у руки його ворога та в руки тих, що шукають його душу, — так, як Я дав Седекію, царя Юди, у руки Навуходоносора, царя Вавилону, його ворога, і того, хто шукав його душі.

31

One courier follows another
and messenger follows messenger
to announce to the king of Babylon
that his entire city is captured,

(31) Слово, яке пророк Єремія сказав Варухові, синові Нирія, коли він записав ці слова в книзі з уст Єремії в четвертому році Йоакима, сина Йосії, царя Юди.

32

the river crossings seized,
the marshes set on fire,
and the soldiers terrified.”

32

(32) Так сказав Господь про тебе, Варуше:

33

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:
“Daughter Babylon is like a threshing floor
at the time it is trampled;
the time to harvest her will soon come.”

33

(33) Тому що ти сказав: Горе мені, горе мені, бо Господь додав клопіт до мого труду, я спав зі стогоном, я не знайшов спочинку,

34

“Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured us,
he has thrown us into confusion,
he has made us an empty jar.
Like a serpent he has swallowed us
and filled his stomach with our delicacies,
and then has spewed us out.

34

(34) скажи йому: Так сказав Господь: Ось тих, кого Я збудував, Я нищу, і яких Я насадив, Я виполюю.

35

May the violence done to our fleshf be on Babylon,”
say the inhabitants of Zion.
“May our blood be on those who live in Babylonia,”
says Jerusalem.

35

(35) А ти шукаєш для себе великого. Ти не шукай, бо ось Я наводжу зло на всяке тіло, — говорить Господь, — і дам твою душу, як знахідку в кожному місці, куди лиш підеш туди!
