  • A Prophecy Against the King of Tyre

    The word of the Lord came to me:
  • Prophecy Against the Prince of Tyre

    The word of the Lord came to me:
  • “Son of man, say to the ruler of Tyre, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
    “ ‘In the pride of your heart
    you say, “I am a god;
    I sit on the throne of a god
    in the heart of the seas.”
    But you are a mere mortal and not a god,
    though you think you are as wise as a god.
  • “Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord God:
    “Because your heart is proud,
    and you have said, ‘I am a god,
    I sit in the seat of the gods,
    in the heart of the seas,’
    yet you are but a man, and no god,
    though you make your heart like the heart of a god —
  • Are you wiser than Daniela?
    Is no secret hidden from you?
  • you are indeed wiser than Daniel;
    no secret is hidden from you;
  • By your wisdom and understanding
    you have gained wealth for yourself
    and amassed gold and silver
    in your treasuries.
  • by your wisdom and your understanding
    you have made wealth for yourself,
    and have gathered gold and silver
    into your treasuries;
  • By your great skill in trading
    you have increased your wealth,
    and because of your wealth
    your heart has grown proud.
  • by your great wisdom in your trade
    you have increased your wealth,
    and your heart has become proud in your wealth —
  • “ ‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
    “ ‘Because you think you are wise,
    as wise as a god,
  • therefore thus says the Lord God:
    Because you make your heart
    like the heart of a god,
  • I am going to bring foreigners against you,
    the most ruthless of nations;
    they will draw their swords against your beauty and wisdom
    and pierce your shining splendor.
  • therefore, behold, I will bring foreigners upon you,
    the most ruthless of the nations;
    and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom
    and defile your splendor.
  • They will bring you down to the pit,
    and you will die a violent death
    in the heart of the seas.
  • They shall thrust you down into the pit,
    and you shall die the death of the slain
    in the heart of the seas.
  • Will you then say, “I am a god,”
    in the presence of those who kill you?
    You will be but a mortal, not a god,
    in the hands of those who slay you.
  • Will you still say, ‘I am a god,’
    in the presence of those who kill you,
    though you are but a man, and no god,
    in the hands of those who slay you?
  • You will die the death of the uncircumcised
    at the hands of foreigners.
    I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Lord.’ ”
  • You shall die the death of the uncircumcised
    by the hand of foreigners;
    for I have spoken, declares the Lord God.”
  • The word of the Lord came to me:
  • A Lament over the King of Tyre

    Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me:
  • “Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
    “ ‘You were the seal of perfection,
    full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
  • “Son of man, raise a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord God:
    “You were the signet of perfection,a
    full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
  • You were in Eden,
    the garden of God;
    every precious stone adorned you:
    carnelian, chrysolite and emerald,
    topaz, onyx and jasper,
    lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl.b
    Your settings and mountingsc were made of gold;
    on the day you were created they were prepared.
  • You were in Eden, the garden of God;
    every precious stone was your covering,
    sardius, topaz, and diamond,
    beryl, onyx, and jasper,
    sapphire,b emerald, and carbuncle;
    and crafted in gold were your settings
    and your engravings.c
    On the day that you were created
    they were prepared.
  • You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
    for so I ordained you.
    You were on the holy mount of God;
    you walked among the fiery stones.
  • You were an anointed guardian cherub.
    I placed you;d you were on the holy mountain of God;
    in the midst of the stones of fire you walked.
  • You were blameless in your ways
    from the day you were created
    till wickedness was found in you.
  • You were blameless in your ways
    from the day you were created,
    till unrighteousness was found in you.
  • Through your widespread trade
    you were filled with violence,
    and you sinned.
    So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
    and I expelled you, guardian cherub,
    from among the fiery stones.
  • In the abundance of your trade
    you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned;
    so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of God,
    and I destroyed you,e O guardian cherub,
    from the midst of the stones of fire.
  • Your heart became proud
    on account of your beauty,
    and you corrupted your wisdom
    because of your splendor.
    So I threw you to the earth;
    I made a spectacle of you before kings.
  • Your heart was proud because of your beauty;
    you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor.
    I cast you to the ground;
    I exposed you before kings,
    to feast their eyes on you.
  • By your many sins and dishonest trade
    you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
    So I made a fire come out from you,
    and it consumed you,
    and I reduced you to ashes on the ground
    in the sight of all who were watching.
  • By the multitude of your iniquities,
    in the unrighteousness of your trade
    you profaned your sanctuaries;
    so I brought fire out from your midst;
    it consumed you,
    and I turned you to ashes on the earth
    in the sight of all who saw you.
  • All the nations who knew you
    are appalled at you;
    you have come to a horrible end
    and will be no more.’ ”
  • All who know you among the peoples
    are appalled at you;
    you have come to a dreadful end
    and shall be no more forever.”
  • A Prophecy Against Sidon

    The word of the Lord came to me:
  • Prophecy Against Sidon

    The word of the Lord came to me:
  • “Son of man, set your face against Sidon; prophesy against her
  • “Son of man, set your face toward Sidon, and prophesy against her
  • and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
    “ ‘I am against you, Sidon,
    and among you I will display my glory.
    You will know that I am the Lord,
    when I inflict punishment on you
    and within you am proved to be holy.
  • and say, Thus says the Lord God:
    “Behold, I am against you, O Sidon,
    and I will manifest my glory in your midst.
    And they shall know that I am the Lord
    when I execute judgments in her
    and manifest my holiness in her;
  • I will send a plague upon you
    and make blood flow in your streets.
    The slain will fall within you,
    with the sword against you on every side.
    Then you will know that I am the Lord.
  • for I will send pestilence into her,
    and blood into her streets;
    and the slain shall fall in her midst,
    by the sword that is against her on every side.
    Then they will know that I am the Lord.
  • “ ‘No longer will the people of Israel have malicious neighbors who are painful briers and sharp thorns. Then they will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.
  • “And for the house of Israel there shall be no more a brier to prick or a thorn to hurt them among all their neighbors who have treated them with contempt. Then they will know that I am the Lord God.
  • “ ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When I gather the people of Israel from the nations where they have been scattered, I will be proved holy through them in the sight of the nations. Then they will live in their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob.
  • Israel Gathered in Security

    “Thus says the Lord God: When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and manifest my holiness in them in the sight of the nations, then they shall dwell in their own land that I gave to my servant Jacob.
  • They will live there in safety and will build houses and plant vineyards; they will live in safety when I inflict punishment on all their neighbors who maligned them. Then they will know that I am the Lord their God.’ ”
  • And they shall dwell securely in it, and they shall build houses and plant vineyards. They shall dwell securely, when I execute judgments upon all their neighbors who have treated them with contempt. Then they will know that I am the Lord their God.”
