  • A Prophecy Against Edom

    The word of the Lord came to me:
  • Prophecy against Mount Seir

    And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
  • “Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir; prophesy against it
  • Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it,
  • and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you and make you a desolate waste.
  • and say unto it, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand upon thee, and I will make thee a desolation and an astonishment.
  • I will turn your towns into ruins and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
  • I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be a desolation: and thou shalt know that I [am] Jehovah.
  • “ ‘Because you harbored an ancient hostility and delivered the Israelites over to the sword at the time of their calamity, the time their punishment reached its climax,
  • Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast given over the children of Israel to the power of the sword, in the time of their calamity, in the time of the iniquity of the end;
  • therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you.
  • therefore, [as] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I will certainly appoint thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee; since thou hast not hated blood, blood shall pursue thee.
  • I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste and cut off from it all who come and go.
  • And I will make mount Seir a desolation and an astonishment, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth;
  • I will fill your mountains with the slain; those killed by the sword will fall on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines.
  • and I will fill his mountains with his slain. In thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy water-courses shall they fall that are slain with the sword.
  • I will make you desolate forever; your towns will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord.
  • I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not be inhabited: and ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah.
  • “ ‘Because you have said, “These two nations and countries will be ours and we will take possession of them,” even though I the Lord was there,
  • Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it, whereas Jehovah was there:
  • therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I will treat you in accordance with the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them and I will make myself known among them when I judge you.
  • therefore, [as] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I will even do according to thine anger and according to thine envy, as thou hast done out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I shall judge thee.
  • Then you will know that I the Lord have heard all the contemptible things you have said against the mountains of Israel. You said, “They have been laid waste and have been given over to us to devour.”
  • And thou shalt know that I Jehovah have heard all thy reproaches, which thou hast uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to devour.
  • You boasted against me and spoke against me without restraint, and I heard it.
  • And ye have magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard [them].
  • This is what the Sovereign Lord says: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate.
  • Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee a desolation.
  • Because you rejoiced when the inheritance of Israel became desolate, that is how I will treat you. You will be desolate, Mount Seir, you and all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the Lord.’ ”
  • As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolated, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be a desolation, O mount Seir, and all Edom, the whole of it: and they shall know that I [am] Jehovah.
